    A suggestion (besides the annoying sounds), you can put boots on the distributor at the same time as the plugs. You can find wire in old electronics parts being tossed out. The transformer winding wire is very fine. Ear bud wires are pretty good for some things. Fine solder for wires and fuel line, and thicker solder for exhaust tubing (custom headers).

    I've always used soldering wire for the plug wires and just painted them black the soldering wire makes it easy to bend them in any shape needed and once you have them fitted the wire itself holds it shape keeping them neatly spaced.
    Distributor caps from rubber like tubing wire from old ear buds it streches out and holds the wires together no glue required but I still put some just for fun because like you said the smell of old school glue brings back some memories as a kid in the 60s remember it was a lot more stronger than today a few hours lock up in your room hovering over a model build eventually had to open window and take a break things would start getting sloppy for some reason Ahahahahaaaha!
    Hell the stores wouldn't even sell just the glue by itself you had to buy a model in order to purchase the glue, Oh those 60s was some crazy times stores would run out of sandwich bags of all things because of pot dealers using them to sell their weed in. Lol

    Alan, Guy i just drilled out my heads a few mins ago. Yeah can''t sleep lol!!! I went to radio shack and brought home the thinnest coated wire they had. I bought a roll of the next size up for boots. I've already made the holes on the heads but hobby lobby i have here don't have styrene for some reason. I've gotta call the hobby shop in T.N. to get a pack. It sucks to pay there prices but if you want quality building you pay for the quality! Thank you for your you tube guy and your reply on the coil location! Awesome video!

    instead of using the largest drill bit right off the bat, use the smallest bit as a starter, then a medium bit.. then your final bit.. a bit more time, but less of a chance to break something on your motor.

    Im not a dragster builder, but in any engine that goes in any model if thats a ''demo'' i can only imagine what your custom built engine looks like! Thats a clean built engine.

    There's a doz ways to make them holes. I use a small pin vise. The wires you can find on line, a small spool of wrapping wire with about 6 different colors, enough for a lifetime of wiring. Slightly larger wires I strip off the covering to make the boots.

    I figured out over time by watching you and doing it myself, with using the radio shack 30awg wire you are using 26awg boots. Thats how they slide on easy. I went to amazon and bought 28awg wire and i learned quickly you have to put them on a needle type pair of tweasers and stretch the 28awg and let it sit for awhile. the 26awg boots slides right on like your doing.

    Boots need only be a little larger than the plug wire. Remove the wire from inside the insulation and cut to the desired length. Nine wires in a piece of tubbing will stand out. It's a little more work but if you use your pin vise and carefully drill the nine holes into the distributor that came in the kit you'll get a more professional look and it won't over shadow the rest of your hard work.

    I wish you would do a video on a NASCAR build as far as what tricks you do to make a kit more realistic. Like the plug wiring, running the coil wire to the MSD box. None of the kit makers never done any of that that what i consider calling plug wires coil wiring etc!

    Alan, i suscribed! I like the trick to making those instead of paying 7 to 8 bucks. Ive always done it a hard way by taking roll bar from a amt NASCAR chassis hollowing it out, then put the wires inside of that. That takes a long time and a freaking head ache. Where do you wire your coil on a NASCAR model kit?

      Mike's Custom Speed Shop I think I did, it's just easier then a lighter, just hold it about 1 or away so it get soft n u can bend it, "tip" cut some old pieces off the old sprue trees from the kit, sometimes you can use the straight in the build, like the corners! just sand off the little round spots, money saved tip!

    Alan, ive got everything together to make these distributor's but with .30 gauge wire honestly what size boots do you use? I know its gotta be a lower number as you said in the video. I can't honestly believe how hard it was for me to find tubing!

    • @AlanSpenceAlanGCCMSpence
      @AlanSpenceAlanGCCMSpence  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeremy Evans I have no idea, I just have some scrap pieces I used for rad hose once, it was too small, so I used it as boots, ya just gotta eye ball it, it helps to use a tooth pick to make boot a'little bigger, sorry, but I don't know the size

    • @jeremy2033
      @jeremy2033 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh, Alan i started making wires and started putting the boots on and it's a b*t*h, but it turns out alot better. I think with .30 awg wire im gonna have to use .26 for boots. I think thats what your using because your getting them on alot easier without any issue of pushing them on like im having. Im learning and watching your different videos. I had to moch up wiring from the MSD boxes to all of the ignition switches and other crap. I can work on a actual weekly race car without any problem. Btw we qualified p1 and finished 4th this past Sat. night!
