I was at Roosevelt that night and as I remember, this was the first time in Roosevelt's history that they had a sub-1:26 three-quarters (and as far as I know, the only one Jack E. Lee ever called as he would be replaced by Jerry Glantz for the fall meet that year).
Mark H The legend has it he said some not-so-nice things about someone on what he thought was private but apparently went out over the PA system during the spring-summer meet that year. Jerry Glantz (who would be the final announcer at Roosevelt) took over for the fall 1985 (into early 1986) meet there.
Mark H After he was let go at Roosevelt, Jack Lee was the announcer at Suffolk Meadows (an attempt to reopen what was originally Parr Meadows, a Quarter Horse track) during its only season in 1986 and then beginning in 1990 was the track announcer at Freehold Raceway for several years.
George S was a hard hitting Free for all pacer..best on the New York circuit at the time, but there where a few legendary monsters on the Grand circuit to which on the road again was one..sadly never raced against Cam Fella
DR57 ......earlier that yr on the Rosecroft half miler, George S and OTRA deal heated in 54.4 in a leg of the Graduate. Fastest ever DH on a half at that time.

Great to hear Jack E Lee's voice again. I grew up listening to him at night and Fred Cappasella in the daytime. The two greatest race callers ever.
You can 't make a mistake driving a horse like this !!! He will win anyway!

Sorta of funny, but a sad ending for a really great announcer. Thanks for the info!

How about a young Walter Case Jr. sailing one down the road???
any other horse would have gotten beat with that ride.
How good was the winner?
No lulls. Great race!
