  • In this Navigators Guide to Sailwind, we explore how to use the Sun Compass to locate our Latitude, as described by the in-game Navigation Manual. We also go off book to explore how to combine the Sun Compass with the Chronometer to locate our Longitude!

As I'm currently lost on the way to Happy Bay, this finally clicked in my brain. Thanks! Hopefully I can find my way before I run out of supplies.

Did you make it? I just got the game a couple days ago and am fully equipped to make my first blue water crossing!

@@Plombo_5 yes but took 2 tries and sank on the way from HB to Oasis. I'm not liking the kakam ship so far.

I am so glad I found this game. I have played eSail for a year but always wanted it to be larger, and to have a more interesting game component as part of it. sailwind fits the bill exactly, though it's a bit simpler than esail.
the ability to do navigation like this is wonderful.
i have also been practicing polynesian starmap navigation which has been impossible in other games due to lack of angle measuring devices like in sailwind. it's been very interesting to apply this stuff i read about in polynesian navigation books. it works.

The navigation is honestly one of my favorite features of this game. That a person has to do all the navigation from on the ship, and doesn't get any overhead or map view, and just has to work it out from the materials in front of them is perfect.

wow this is genius. It's so simple and so effective. To imagine people doing this ages ago sailing the ocean and not even knowing where the next continent was.. or what even was a continent. lol I get anxious going to the grocery store, not to mention getting on a ship and sailing for the unknown. I love this game lol.

You make an interesting idea for a game, though. What if the whole world was unmapped, and one had to explore it to find new settlements to trade between? hmm...

@@SimGamerTV I think it'd be cool if it had to or three mapped area very far apart with no maps inbetween and items that you could only get from one of the places that are very expensive on the others, this way, you'd eventually have to make the trip and there'd be randomly generated islands and continents inbetween that'd end up being useful

People couldn't accurately use this way of navigation until John Harrison produced his very accurate marine chronometers in the mid 18th century.

I learned a lot from your guides, and I have an idea of how difficult it is to produce this content with quality. Congratulations. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the video. I'm a new player. I haven't even figured out how to get the crates to line up on the deck or how to put things into inventory slots. Seems like a lot of explanation could be added to a manual, just how to manipulate basic game mechanics like that. This, though, is way more advanced. After I figure out how to manipulate the basic game world, I might be able to afford some of these fancy pieces of equipment.

      @@SimGamerTV Thank you a lot!
I will go through your whole videos tomorrow and see if anything needs changing. But I think you did an amazing job and I don't think anything needs to. Hopefully that will also send a few more viewers your way and your hard work gets a bit more attention.
I'll let you know if anything.
