These kinds of supplemental material is what I've been waiting for. Adding the optional faction-specific rules to model and guide the flavor of the factions appeals to a whole swath of players that have been added in recent years. It's about time they did it.
plus they have all the painted minis which look amazing🤤
SO. EXCITED! This was the first hardback that my work was published in. Been waiting for what seems like forever!
This is awesome!!! glad you were able to get an early copy.... on the waitlist for Bobby!!
Thank you for the reviews. I will be grabbing both books when releases
Looking forward to this one!
I alpha striked that like button but my phone's heatsinks couldn't cope with ît!
LOL!
With some of the leagues we run over here at Colorado Battletech, folks are playing around with PV/BV multipliers for spas. A bit of trial and error as we attempt to smothe out the disparities, but a point modifier makes more sense to me for SPAs.
Ding ding ding! I agree with that :)
looking forward to the clan versions of this series.
It's a nice looking book. I was a bit concerned with the price until you compared it to 40k as a codex.
Nice subtle way to give us the finger around 1:36 =D
Realy nice - I like these kind of books and can't wait to ad them to my library. Keep up the good work, greets from germany.
Can't wait for the PDF!
Awesome!! Gunna have to grab me up a copy!
I’ve only ever used SPAs in ongoing campaigns where one of us is moreso DMing than an equal challenger. I’d consider using them in a friendly game, but never in a random or competitive matchup.
Range Master is pretty powerful but Combat Intuition I think has a lot of ability for abuse, particularly with a low skill rating pilot and if you’re not using multiple damage rolls, as they can potentially delete an enemy unit before the enemy can act. In a
Totally agree, that SPA is also pretty nutters.
Great review! Looking forward to more videos!
Love these faction specific books!
ahhh another book on the to buy list. Great video
I picked up both at GENCON and love them. Personally, I don't care for SPAs or formations outside of a narrative campaign, where it can add flavor to PCs piloting a single mech each. While the formation availability lists are cool, I'd rather just have master lists by weight class and era since I'm not going to be building a specific type of lance. I actually think the section on all the regiments and their histories is the coolest part of the book, looking forward to the ilClan Era addendums and future books. Give us the periphery (and by periphery, I mean Magistracy of Canopus and Scorpion Empire)!
It’s a shame ilClan wasn’t included in these books honestly. Would have really added value.
I have a Sword of Light force I made just for Alpha Strike. I'm gonna have to pick this up when it comes out.
Great review👍🏻
Yessss ! Battletech Universe soon 😊
Oh nice, so they're both ready. Only thing slightly bothering me is one having spa's while the other just has something else. Just feels like inconsistent formatting. Not that there's a lack of them in the Commanders book oof course.
I wouldn’t say, ready, the Kurita one won’t be widely available until February I’m told :/
Yes, new manual.
Looks good - any idea when this will hit retail?
really cool and wished I had grabbed it at Gen Con and hoped they had it at NOVA but I will wait. Hope they do a Clan Wolf and Wolfs Dragoons one in the future.
Completely agree with the SPAs. They add a ton flavor to the game, but just too easy to abuse the way they are now. Would love to see an overhaul.
I think this is an interesting addition to the game for sure. thanks for giving us a view lol
These look fantastic - great way to help get into a specific faction/theme. Are there more coming for the other major factions or is it just these and the mercenaries?
CGL doesn't tell me things unfortunately, so beyond those I don't know =/
There was a spreadsheet making the rounds on the internet. If it is to be believed, clan wolf, clan jade falcon, the dragoons and Steiner are going to get these. That does not mean others won’t later on, and that does not mean CGL keeps to their release schedule - this spreadsheet was the next 3+ years of product
@@timunderbakke8756I’d love a Capellan one but I’d give that the same odds as a snowball’s chance in a heat sink. 😂
I picked this up at GenCon for a friend and kept the better one - Davion - for myself, naturally
Do these books also contain rules for classic Battletech? Probably everything could be ported with not too much effort, but I wonder if it has both variants directly. Eg for the missions.
@TakeoKurita918 these new books, unlike the Combat Manuals before them, are valid for both Classic and Alphs Strike. You probably need Campaign Operations if you want SPAs/SCAs in Classic.
"Which minis to pick up, which minis to paint"
ALL OF THEM. Joking aside, the major five houses have access to most designs and the rest can be explained as salvage, so always go with what you like. This is not WH40k 😉
That works for 'most' gamers but any of us who attend (or run) events explaining away unit selection as salvage doesn't always cut it. Else some players will play a House but only ever deploy clan tech. At some point ya gotta try to encourage fluff as well. My event allows a single salvage unit that breaks a faction's MUL allowance for the era we are playing, but the rest of the force has to be compliant. That's my middle ground to make sure it's still fluffy and salvage isn't abused.
@@ThearmedpainterI actually like that! My local area is 100% MUL compliance. And I hate it because it basically means “oh you’re playing the same 2-3 factions because the MUL lists aren’t remotely balanced at all”.
I could live with “you have to be mostly compliant but”. So these days I just play with friends and we only consult MUL for introductory dates to keep on the right era
It looks like a great book. I have to pick that up. Any hope for a Steiner specific book in the future?
They're doing at least all the great houses. Lyrans are sometime next year IIRC.
“alpha strike that like & subscribe” is brilliant holy cow
The BAD GUYS manual huh? 😂
hmmm do these come as .pdf's to purchase. It would be nice to read/use on my ipad. Hi from MN. (ok what is SPA? what am I missing) Alpha Strike this weekend.... learning....
Once they're available at retail you should be able to get the pdf versions from the CGL store.
SPA stands for special pilot abilities. Extra abilities you can assign to a unit either from direct selection or granted as formation bonuses.
@@rburt3 Thanks a lot... getting up to speed after 40+ years is tough.
@@jgnunan hey, been there fellow mech dad. Came back 5 or so years ago myself after a long hiatus (20+ years).
In your defense you don’t hear me mention SPA on the channel often because they are optional rules that aren’t well balanced so they largely go unused. I’m hoping they one day try to balance them and integrate them into Alpha Strike more easily.
@@Thearmedpainter rarely used competitively, but a blast in narrative games.
I done care do the Davion one!

@@richardbrooks5899 Embarrassed but yah i saw that a few minutes after i posted. both are good vids. I've just only ever had one loyalty. and the DC... well I've only ever hated two factions.
Yup. See how its DRIPPING with fascism??? 😂😂😂😂
Sounds like you need a bit of authoritarianism in your life.
