So far, fall in Beijing is our favorite season! The month of October is especially spectacular with mild temperatures, bright blue skies, and clean air. We decided to spend one weekend in October outside of Beijing. We took a Didi to Gubei watertown, although it's apparently also reachable via train from Beijing. The fall foliage inside the water town is stunning! We were truly impressed by the richness of the fall foliage scenery throughout the town. We want to note that the town is commercial, meaning it is not a residential town but rather a tourist site. Also, the water town serves as the entrance to the Simatai section of the Great Wall, which is lit up beautifully at night. In the future, we hope to visit again and watch the sunset from Simatai.

Wow. Long time guys ! Must be some 5 or 6 years ago that you were hiking Tiger Leaping Gorge. Now you have a wonderful family to share your adventures : ) What a lovely surprise !

Thanks for checking in on the channel after all these years! Yes, it feels like a full circle moment as we had Levi in Shanghai all those years ago and now we've returned to China as a family of 4. =)

Lovely video & sweet family! When was this taken? Do you think we can see foliage during mid November? Thanks.

Thanks for your lovely comment! We took the footage in this video on October 21, 2023. It's hard to say if there will be foliage mid-November. We imagine that the weather will be an important factor. In 2023, the weather in and around Beijing in October was superb. If that weather pattern repeats again this year, then it's likely that there would still be fall foliage in Gubei as well as at the various sections of the Great Wall!

hi , its a really nice vlog! really enjoyed it . May i ask if you and your family travel back to beijing using a taxi as well ? and is there problem in getting a taxi back to the city ?

Thanks for watching! Yes, we traveled back to Beijing in a Didi (taxi) as well. We were worried that it would be difficult to get a car back to Beijing, but it wasn't. I was told that many ride share/taxi drivers take guests from Beijing to the Great Wall or Gubei in the morning then wait around to see if anyone needs a ride back to the city. But I imagine there will be fewer and fewer drivers available as the day goes on; we left in the afternoon. There are probably also fewer drivers available on weekdays.

Also may I know the pagoda location is it far from Simatai Great Wall? Have to go one big round from entrance tickets?

@@happy2gether1000 The Yuantong Pagoda is inside Gubei water town. You have to purchase tickets in order to enter Gubei. Once you enter Gubei, the pagoda is almost always visible because it's one of the highest (if not the highest) point in the water town. My understanding is that Simatai is accessible by walking through the water town, so you should easily be able to see both the pagoda and Simatai Great Wall in one visit.
