- In this video we're listening to both the English and German versions of Kraftwerk's The Model, or Das Model. We barely know even a handful of songs from this early synth band, but we've thoroughly enjoyed what we know. We're pretty excited to learn more about them. Enjoy!

I got into Kraftwerk in 1974 after hearing Autobahn. This track is good to hear again, I didn't play it for years as just after it was released I did the music for a fashion show where they used this track so, I had to listen to one part of it over and over again, about sixty times which put me off it for a long time. You should check out, "Trans-Europe Express" ny them from 1977. There's a good German version of a track by, 'Ultravox', "Herr X", the English version being "Mr X".
@@test8959 I loved all of Kraftwerk's stuff, I had "Autobahn" on cassette originally, I got it on vinyl later, I now have it along with their other albums on CD.
It sounds better in German. It fits together better, doesn't feel like something has been lost in translation. Same with Nene's, 99 luftballons (99 red balloons).

Kraftwerk gave one of my most memorable and favourite concerts I have ever attended to date, and I have been to a lot over my many years. I also got to meet John Peel at that gig too (A national treasure here in the UK), not bad for a 15 year old at the time. Another great video guys ❤✌
My favourite from childhood from India in my family everyone told me i was dancing when i was listening to this when i was only months older soo this song is my love and soul for ever...❤
Gary Numan, OMD, Human League amongst others are Children of Kraftwerk!

I saw Gary Numan at the Liverpool Empire in 1979. OMD was the warm up act, when there was only the Two of them and they used a reel to reel tape called Winston with the backing material on.

I'd sung the German version a week ago in the kitchen of the local community centre, when I was chatting about electronic music with some of the other volunteers 😁

One of the greatest and most influential bands! I'd do the usual thing and recommend a handful of tracks to react to, but I feel bands like Kraftwerk have so many that it's best you explore and discover them yourselves 🙂This is probably their most "instant" 3-minute pop song, but all their other tracks are great to listen to and not at all what I'd call experimental (except maybe their early work pre-Autobahn).
Not many do reactions on this classic synth pearl from the 80s...I think its from the 80s..double nice that you do the german version as well...:)..good job guys...I like this song..its great :)

The first electronic record I bought in the late 70's. Set me on the path of exploring electronics and sounds.
I've just taught my 6 year old son to ride a bike. I was so proud of him yesterday, he was cycling home from daycare singing Trans Euro Express at the top of his voice.
Time for him to learn 'Tour de France'.
Afrika Bambaataa introduced Gary Numan to the US as well. He was a champion of the track, Films, (by Numan), that became an early staple for hip hop dance. Afrika also worked with John Lydon post Sex Pistols, some quite interesting stuff. Hip hop godfather teamed with punky and artsy Lydon (Lydon/PIL, became very artsy post punk).

Originally released in 1978 I think, but then re-released in the UK in 1982, huge hit, went to number one.

I don't think I've made a request that hasn't been on the back of other people's requests before, but I would really like to see you guys do Billy Thorpe And The Aztecs performing ''Mama'' on GTK in 1971. Superyob's upload from 17 years ago is looks and sounds good enough. I think you'll like it. I don't know if anybody outside our Aussie clique would appreciate some hairy screamy Aussie (who was actually born in Manchester, UK) playing beyond volume 11, but I really think you guys are going to gig it, and I don't think I've ever asked for a specific tune in a long time. I'll leave it to you guys..

They were the pioneers of electronic popular music ! Normally electronic music sounds very technically and a little steril, but Kraftwerk were able to give it emotion. The melancholy vibes in the song are great.

I agree this song sounds better when sung in the singer’s mother tounge. What’s the name of the song you use as introduction music by the way in your clips Chris and Cynthia? It has kind of a 60s feel to it that I like :)
Very accessible by their standards. My favourite tracks by them are Showroom Dummies and The Hall of Mirrors
Kraftwerk (meaning Power Station) started out around 1968/1969 with founder Ralf Hutter and co-founder Florian Schenider who sadly passed away on April 20, 2020 of cancer at the age of 73. Their first album Kraftwerk 1 was released in 1970 and Kraftwerk 2 was released in 1971 which both albums were more avant garde/experimental electronic music. Their third 1973 album Ralf und Florian (Ralf and Florian) was a bit more ambient (ambient music was coined by non musician, which he has claimed to be, Brian Eno around 1977). Kraftwerk's fourth album Autobahn released in 1974 was the album that put them on the map here in the US and around the world. The song Autobahn is an incredible 22/23 minute musical journey ride. Please do a reaction to their song Autobahn. Their follow up albums are Radioactivity (1975), Trans Europe Express (1977), THE MAN-MACHINE (1978), Computer World (1981), and Electric Cafe (1986). The classic lineup of Kraftwerk were Ralf Hutter, Florian Schenider, Wolfgang Flur and Karl Bartos.
Bought the album Autobahn in 74. I then bought their 1st 2 albums. Different, but you could see the way they were going. Trans Europe Express and, Radioactivity were the next ones. Brilliant. And Man Machine 78 is a classic. Not only did it have this track, but also The Robots and my favourite on the album Spacelab. 1981 was their massive break with the album Computer World. Legendary.
I've seen them live 3 times and just love them.
I'm lucky enough to still have the single of the Model with it as a B Side to Computer Love. Very rare. When it became a hit in the UK it was released as an A Side with a red cover. The album Computer World had a florescent yellow like my single. I'm fluent in German and prefer their German versions

It's always weird to hear the English version being German. The German words fit much better to the rhythm, it sounds more natural
Peter Gabriel did a German language version of his 3rd ( Melty ) album. You could compare Games Without Frontiers !

This track and Autobahn were their only hits. Possibly stand alongside the Beatles as having the greatest influence on popular music. They toured here (Aus) late last year and it was a remarkable show. The album "Man Machine" considered one of their best but ""Trans Europe Express is worth investigating. If you guys take requests then "numbers" from Computer world is a classic

"Duel" by the German band Propaganda is another good tune by a synth band

Strangely enough the first Kraftwerk album I bought was the German version way, way back. Still got it , though I don't have a deck to play it on. They had a profound effect on my taste in music since hearing the much shortened version of autobahn on the radio when it was released as a single in the UK.
Kraft werk are the pioneers of electronic music think of when this was made it's like nothing else from then. They even influenced the god Gary numan! 😊
Arguably the most influential band ever, even more so than the Beatles. All modern music owes its existence to Kraftwerk. I would recommend Autobahn, Trans Europe Express or Numbers. Oh, and it was a great idea Cynthia. This is their best known song in the UK.
I absolutely defend your right to have the almost unbelievable opinion that Kraftwerk were even more influential than The Beatles . The Beatles did Komm Gib mir Deine Hand and Sie Liebe Dicht (hope I got the spelling correct), German language versions of "I want to hold Your Hand" and "She loves You"

If you haven't heard it yet, do listen to Autobahn. It was a hit here in the UK in 1975, and blew us away. The album version is preferable.

We were both fans of the movie 'Breakin'' when we were young enough to learn dance moves. The broom scene is performed using a piece of that. We were quick to hunt down that track.

You should do a "Who Did it Better" and compare Kraftwerk's version to the one made by The Members in 1980. Definitely different takes!

Try some Frank Zappa (Inca Roads), makes Kraftwerk's sound like, Devo. Inca Roads studio album is a masterpiece. It's for the discriminating pallet. Everyone will love you for it. All your fondest dreams will come true. Another song on the same album Sofa One is, Andy. Tells a story about Andy Divine, the old cowboy star. Speed rock then Intense jazz, then an orchestra playing backwards. It's wild!

Steve Albini died a few weeks ago, of course. I also liked Big Black's track 'Ugly American' which I heard on John Peel's show in the mid-80s.
