Great vid as always Dean! Worth a mention that this only works with display scaling set to 100% currently. i.e. a laptop with scaling set at 125% by default, is going to display a grey image in place of the video (audio can still be heard).
@@AzureAcademy I believe it's since been added as a known issue to the documentation, I'm not convinced it was an issue in earlier versions from memory. Currently sitting with the product group. Although no ETA as it "will take some time to fix", and given users could change scale to 100%. I'm sure we can appreciate the users response on a small laptop to read text at 100%, when they've been used to the default 125% - and we nicely ask them to change 😆
I'm on windows 11 and did not have an MSRDC entry in my registry. Created it and restarted Remote Desktop and lo and behold there were an update anyway. I thought for sure I'd hit a blocker.
First off…windows 11 is in preview so I am not sure if it is supported yet…also, you need the proper version of the AVD client installed…which it seems like you are missing…because the MSRDC key should have been there already. So, which version do you have? And most importantly…is it working?
Multi media redirection does not require a domain controller, but you would need to figure out how you were going to push out those settings at scale…could be Intune or a 3rd party platform
Great video as always! I tried this and works very well. But it seams like it breaks Teams optimization. I need to close the browser after the AVD redirect is used, to make it work in teams.
Can you put that in as feedback in tech community I will test and address this internally with the product group techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-virtual-desktop/public-preview-announcing-public-preview-of-multimedia/m-p/2663244
Not Relevant AVD question: "how do I remove a user profile disk when it is normally connected with FSLogix stored in Azure storage file share?" I get Smb errors. I cannot remove them.
Can you clarify what you mean by "Remove Them"? 1. Do you want to delete the disk 2. Dismount the disk from the VM 3. remove the user profile that is hung 4. Other?
Does this actually work? Microsoft and Citrix have been working on Teams redirection for over two years. As of today its considered failure based on its lack of stability in the Citrix/VDI community. The Zoom VDI plug-in works better then the Teams version but still is less then mediocre.
Hi Dean. Thanks for bringing this. Can you let me know if this feature can stay along with wvd SCP(screen capture protection) feature as having that feature enabled we have seen it is blocking screen sharing over teams as teams optimization uses traffic redirection through local pc. I hope this would survive SCP.
Screen capture protection is being revamped, which is why you can't find it in the AVD docs right now...so as it is TODAY...YES this will work, and I would hope that in the new version of screen capture this would be working together as well.
@@AzureAcademy thanks Dean. I will give a try to this. Any update when we can get SCP changes as it's seriously blocking our teams performance as I had to implement it over teams redirection which was giving us a great performance
I meant the Teams with media redirection. And I’m not using windows multisession image because I’m using personal host pool. And win multisession image has some limitation in Intune management
@@AzureAcademy yes you are right and I'm using it in the pooled host pool. but I have also personal host pool using Windows 10 enterprise and would like to automate Teams installation there with media redirection

Interesting, I had not seen that behavior, Thanks for the tip. Is that documented? Please contact support so they can work fixing that

Got it, I will check with the product team on their progress
Awesome video as always, thank you! Would this only work with azure virtual desktop, or could it work with non-azure RDS also?
Yes this only works with AVD today, but I think it works be a great idea to make it work with the native RDS and RDP client.

@@AzureAcademy I have the .2223 version and it worked yesterday. I haven't checked today after the big update of windows 11
Yeah windows 11 is nice…I still have to try it with MMR
Does this require a Domain Controller (in Azure or on-prem) to implement or can it be accomplished via Azure AD?
Multi media redirection does not require a domain controller, but you would need to figure out how you were going to push out those settings at scale…could be Intune or a 3rd party platform
Great video! Keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
Great Video Dean. Thank you.
Anytime Malcolm!
How does this work in a thinclient environment? Will MMR work with thin clients as they're basically Linux boxes, etc?
Probably not because you need the proper client. MOST things clients are Linux based which have limited support

@@AzureAcademy remove the user profile so I can "generate" a new one
You should delete the users .vid files
Then when they log in they will get a new profile

I’d say it works very well, the results are in the video, full 1080p video at full screen just like it was on your local computer.

Hello, Is there a way to automate this type of Teams deployment to AVD through Intune apps? thanks
What do you mean the "TYPE" of Teams deployment? Teams with A/V redirection is packaged into the latest Windows Multi-Session OS Image already?
I meant the Teams with media redirection. And I’m not using windows multisession image because I’m using personal host pool. And win multisession image has some limitation in Intune management
Yes, teams with AV redirection is built into the latest Microsoft multi-session images
@@AzureAcademy yes you are right and I'm using it in the pooled host pool. but I have also personal host pool using Windows 10 enterprise and would like to automate Teams installation there with media redirection
Personal pool generally uses windows enterprise images, which doesn’t have Teams and AV redirection in it
Thank you
You're welcome
Does it redirect the traffic to the local pc?
It off loads the process / graphics heavy lifting of the video stream to the local pc yes
Great
👍👍
Thanks for the Video, you missed the Scriptlink in the Description? :) would be appreciated
updated, thanks for catching that
