    There are anonymous middle relievers in American Major League Baseball who earn more than Peter Sagan.
    The economics of racing bikes are crazy.

      As far as I know, (correct me if I'm wrong) all the major league baseball players are millionares. But with professional cycling they do a much more difficult job and get paid way less.

    • @numberonealcove
      @numberonealcove 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The minimum salary in major league baseball is just over half a million USD a year. The mean salary, however, is $4.5 million.

    • @njsfer
      @njsfer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't forget that Sagan, as any other charismatic sportsmen are paid very well for advertising. Also those numbers didn't include cachet neither prizes. So, his total income per year is much bigger than that.
      For example, Roger Federer's all time prize money is a bit higher than $100 million. He doesn't have a salary but he makes $60-$70 million every year of total income. So, in two years, even without winning anything he earns more than a lifetime of income based on actual winning prize money. The same for Ronaldo that had a salary of $25 million a year while is total income is around $100 million in one season... In sports, the most iconic athletes's salary is only 1/3rd or less than their total income with advertising.

      That's only the salary he gets from the team, speci, 100% & others pay him well over that amount so his total yearly earnings are much much higher ($20m I think)

    • @oliverlane97
      @oliverlane97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sophie Rix Yeah could be that. He'll also get paid endorsements like the video says, gets paid for showing of his sponsors (i.e wearing his kit etc and posting it on Instagram) and he can get paid to appear at places (races etc) So yeah he does get paid significantly more than just his salary.

      rob roberts yes that's the only thing we can say as Americans. Watch the Canadian national team in the Olympics. Sidney Crosby, Corey Price, Duncan Keith, Jonathon Toews, that's not even all.. They definitely export the talent to America and we consume & do all the marketing 😉 but we have some solid players in our own right.. Patrick Kane, T.J. Oshie.

    • @patrickperreault8955
      @patrickperreault8955 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do understand how the nhl works. There is more teams in the states than in Canada so the chances are always in favour of a American team to win. I like many American players myself, but let’s be honest here. Canadians in general are more likely to play hockey than any other sport. I didn’t ask it to be changed to Canadian hockey but to the more international term of Ice hockey.

    Sagan's salary is paid by Specialized..so wherever sagan goes..the team will be equiped by specialized bikes, helmets etc...I can tell you (as a Slovak) that he earns 5 mil from Specialized, 1 mil from victories per year and 1-2 mil from marketing and sponzorship..so roughly 7 to 8 milion

      Have you ever done competitive cycling? Probably not! Being at a top level requires a lot of hard work, so, while they are training or racing, they cannot appreciate the great views. Aside from that, their lives are very restrictive, diet wise. They have to have 100% of control over their diet or their performance drops significantly. And living in a bus and on top of a bicycle mustn't be the best thing in the world. Other than that, why did you talk about footballers? Is it bad to play in a stadium? What about most of the people that work in fucking offices?

    • @rube3k

      Rubbish. Sky would have at least 10 riders in that top 50 and they are just 1 world tour team out of 18. If you are a domestique earning 150-400 grand a year, thats a fucking good education you've got there that not many people achieve. The 38000 minimum is usually for neo pros so riders in their first year. Take jon dibben a neo pro last year who won a stage of a tour of calfornia. Easily be earning 2/3 times that this year... not many jobs youd get that sorta pay rise in a year

    • @yas96225
      @yas96225 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Team Sky has the highest budget of all teams and you shouldn't forget that athletes have a much shorter career than regular employees. Add tax progression and you'll see that things are not looking too good.
      As a software engineer you can easily make $150K as an individual contributor. And as a team lead or with special skills (e.g. Data Scientist) you can easily go up to $300k.

When u become a cricketer your life can be changed in a 1 months or 2 months.. In my country in Afghanistan our government give you free houses and other stuff if ur a good cricketer.. Every single Afghan cricketer get their houses for free trust that's 100% truth.. those salaries for other sports are WAY OFF. Those are averages including the few highest paid athletes that skew the whole thing, not minimum annual wages. NBA, for example, has a min. rookies salary of $465,000 for the '17-'18 season. A far cry from the 5.7mi pounds ($7.75mi) shown in this video.

    if some futbool players get a milions for nothing , those guys are OK with money . I'm ex racer ( but for fun not money) and you guys do not know how hard is pro racing . I'm now 59 yrs old and riding byke almost every day for fun ( about 50 km every day, for weekends more ) and just two weeks ago I did crash vary bad . And living in the USA a half of my live , just do not know for what reason some managers in USA make so much money ( I'm mechanical engineer and I'm OK with my salary , just enough for normal and without stress life) and some TV stars make a way more than Peter Sagan and company for no reason . Imagine some TV stars are just luckie people and nothing more that this . Peter Sagan is the World Champion ( 3 times) , and Chrise Froome, or Geraint Thomas , Kontador . Mabe I'm wrong but , that is how I do accept all of this.

    Too bad y'all completely left out the roughly half of the pro women's peloton that gets paid $0-$6000/year.

    Of course the best women cyclists earn less than the bottom of the men. Same danger, same work. Just sayin'.
    Ditto surfing championships.

      Ms. S
      Less speed so much less danger. If female cycling wants to generate cash they better push thier races and make people excited to watch. Nobody watching, nobody paying.
      Then again, pro women cyclists probably have good access to high value men, so maybe they do get paid in the end.

    So underpaid. I believe cycling is the hardest sport. And cyclists should be paid at least as soccer players. I mean with results more. A lot more. Cycling industry is so big and they earn a lot on pro cyclists. So...
