- Today I bring back a topic that I have been discussing every year. I share my recommendations for more Stand Alone (all in one) Graphic Novels. Books that can be read in one sitting without the trouble of continuity nor having to go and pick up another volume.
Patreon tiers - We offer multiple tiers starting at $1 to give you access to notes, voting, AMA, recognition, and private consultations! See which tier best fits your needs.

Is that X Men graphic novel collected on an uncanny x men omnibus?
Thank you Brock.
He says at about 18:00 that it’s in X-men omnibus vol 3
Omar, it always amazes me how you find time to discover and read graphic novels from outside the mainstream. Also, how you maintain your love for the medium considering how much you do read. I'm thankful for your sharing of these stories.
Made me so happy to hear that Jeff Lemire's art is growing on you. I agree that his art would be ill-suited for most cape and cowl comics, but for his indie creative owned stuff his art fits because it leads with heart over technique. Great list,
The Twilight Man looks like fun. God Loves, Man Kills is one I've been wanting to pick up for a while.
These are my favorite types of videos thank you for the content sir
Two brothers is a fantastic comic. For those who gree up reading latinamerican novels from 60-70s will notice that exhuberant spirit, chaotic family ties and intense personalities. Great recommendation Omar!
I love that God Lives, Man Kills and Seconds made the list! Happy Thanksgiving Omar & Melanie and all your family! Happy Thanksgiving, Minties!!!!!
Maus is my all time favorite stand alone graphic novel! Just beautiful and heartbreaking.
Happy Thanksgiving Omar
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family brother. Nothing like a good book to read during the holidays.
I've been waiting for this list, happy Thanksgiving.
Thanks for this. I love stand-alones! just in time to buyt myself a christmas gift.
I actually just went to look up Killing and Dying and realised I read it last year through my local library. For some reason I forgot the title but it's a great collection. I am definitely going to look up more from Tomine.
The best video of the year!
Every year I find something new from these videos. Thank you so much.
Graphic Novels: Rocking your world since 1978!
Thank u for this list Omar, deffo going on a shopping spree now
Love these standalone graphic novel videos! Another good list
Love this video - thank you so much for these recs!!
I've already got THE TWILIGHT MAN and re-purchased V FOR VENDETTA to give it another chance (both on your recommendation), and just ordered KILLING AND DYING and FUN HOME, two books I've been aware of for a long time but resisted buying. I knew Adrian Tomine back in his early mini-comix days, and have liked everything I've read by him since. Also bought TWO BROTHERS after reading DAYTRIPPER, and though it does look much different, it looks great. The art has hints of Jose Munoz. Overall, a great list!
V for Vendetta like most Alan Moore comics is really hard to understand and requires multiple readings as well. As a lot of slang Moore uses towards the end, but it is probably my favorite Alan moore story
Love V for Vendetta - always have. Mind you, living in the UK is a factor !
Some of my favorite standalones:
Ministry of Space - Warren Ellis, Chris Weston
Outpost Zero - Sean McKeever, Alexandre Terenkgi
Through the Woods - Emily Carroll
I Kill Giants - J.M. Ken Niimura, Joe Kelly
The Life Eaters - David Brin, Scott Hampton
The American Way - John Ridley, Georges Jeanty
The Surrogates - Robert Venditti, Brett Weldele
Ghost World - Daniel Clowes
The Griff - Christopher Moore, Ian Corson
Motel Art Improvement Service - Jason Little
Nimona - N.D. Stevenson
The Park Bench - Christophe Chabouté
Sentient - Jeff Lemire, Gabriel Hernandez Walta
Loved the list, 3 of those are not on my shelves so I'll be definitely checking them out.
I could not be more excited for this video!!!❤❤❤❤
Real question - where’d you get that X-Men hoodie from? Looks dope!
Love your content.keep up the great work
Happy Thanksgiving all!
Lemire rules. Not the biggest fan of his art, but the stories he whites, oh my gosh! I think is top 5 writers in 21st century. And I love you put V from vendetta there, I find doesn't have the same love than other Moore books, but is fantastic.
Love this series, thanks for the recommendations Omar!
I watch Twilight Zone every new year's day as well thanks to the sci-fi channel marathons from back in the day. Thank you for the recommendations, never even heard of Twilight Man and I'm a huge Rod Serling fan.
Thank you; always much appreciated :)
Another great list. I love watching these top 10 videos. It'd be great to see an updated list for the top 10 Dark Horse, IDW, & Image graphic novels
Love these videos!
You could say that most of the Brubaker / Philips books can be mentioned here as they release most of their stories in graphic novel format.
This is a great list of books! I’ve read a few of them and now I want to read all the others! Thanks Omar👍🏼
Didn't know about Twilight Man, definitely buying it! I'm huge fan of Twilight Zone, have the blu ray set as well. My daughter is only 2 months old, but I can't wait to introduce it to her once she's older.
Great list Omar, for me this year my favorite standalone story that I have read would have to be Do A Powerbomb by Daniel Warren Johnson, just a great story I feel you get a little more out of the story if you are a wrestling fan, but it is not necessary to enjoy this book.
Great list....
....where's the End League
Just read understanding comics, great read, it goes really deep into what comics actually are.
I love all the indies on this list! Though I did think your list was referring to GNs that came out this year.
I think Wendy master of art is a masterpeace of crazy humour, just read it at my lybrary 😅😅😅😅😅😅
I recommend Ballad for Sophie and Always never. The best of the comic medium has to offer in my opinion.
Just read watchman for university
Nice film
GLMK!!!!!
Is there a difference between this year's Seconds vs the one published years back?
V for Vendetta is one of my favorite movies of all time.
I've read the comic afterwards and it didn't click. Probably I was too young as well. In the mean time I've read 1984 and now I think that the next read will be more satisfying.
Based off the thumbnail it’s all adult content 😂
I L♥️VE V FOR VENDETTA
Would love a God Loves Man Kills deluxe edition to get printed!
Seconds is going to be a movie with Blake lively, I hope they do it justice.
Have a good new years watching twilight zone my guy
I know Monsters by BWS got a little too dark by the end but reading the first two acts was quite possibly the most gripping read I've ever experienced. Sad it didn't make this list.
That was one of my favorite reads of 2021. I’m sure it will show up on a future list.
How much of your collection have you actually read ?! 😲 I’m curious cuz I just watched your collection tour video and goddamn you’ve got quite the library ! 😲😲
Is the *X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills* collected in an Omnibus already?
_Skipped as didn't want story spoilers_ but it's obvious a story I've heard of so could direct me with future Omnibus prioritises
He mentions how to get the books at the end. But Uncanny X-men Omnibus Volume 3.
@@elvaquerovaquero5243 Appreciated 🙂👌
maus by art spiegelman
I like Bryan Lee O'Malley's artwork, but I'm not a fan of his writing. I don't find any of his characters relatable... but, that's not really a knock on him or his work, I have the same problem with people in general. I have Seconds already, but looking forward to checking out some of the other title you mentioned. Thanks for the recommends!
Love this channel but Walt probably has the most expensive shipping in EU now.
Bro I'm new to the comic world.. So suggest me some value for money books.
The title makes it seem like these are the best stand alone books of 2023.
Wait, you're 45 years old? Dude, no shot, I thought you're in your late 30s max.
This might be a dumb question, but whats the difference between the trade paperback, deluxe and absolute editions?
I actually did a video answering this question:
th-cam.com/video/P98-p_ZSuls/w-d-xo.htmlsi=w0iuXy86qHn3Ziio
Can you please add timestamp helps rewatching the video
Good video
Thank you.
Sees a 2023 best graphic novel list. *Brings a cup of tea*
They are just graphic novels from any year, and yes, there are super hero cr*p in it… *Leaves*
BTW: Killing and dying is not a novel, they are graphic short stories…
Bring a beer next time and be more open minded. GLMK is a masterpiece.
BTW someone should tell book stores to remove Killing and Dying from their GRAPHIC NOVEL sections!
day 6 of asking for a wolverine reading order!!😀
X-Men is the only one Worth reading...
first view!
My guy, that's 2 minutes and 15 seconds of nothing before you get started.
Shane… in life you got to take things slow. The suspense is part of the journey. This isn’t Tik Tok or Vines :)
Nothing for me this time. Not even close.
I hate superhero comics. I love graphic novels.
Hate is a strong word, but I sure do love comics
No watxhmen lol?
That was on the list the first year I did this.
@@NearMintCondition oh gotcha
Kali is better than all of these books.
I think that was in my top 10 2022. So good.
X-Men God loves Man kills is very good. V for Vendetta sucks. Overrated. Book and movie
