- Hey Guys, I had some time to start the removal of the " Oval " 67 Vw Bug body .
I also found some good parts after getting the 61 Volkswagen Beetle cleaned out .

My first car was a 62 Beetle I got from a Hippy Commune called the New Hamburger in Vermont, near Goddard College and I only paid 150 for it. It burned a quart of oil every 600 miles. I still changed the oil every 3K miles.
They’re not rusty metal piles, they’re beetles! If you don’t let them free in the forest or in their barnyards, you’re responsible for them! Thanks for the videos, of course, it encourages me to fix my bike’s brakes, might save someone’s life! Cheers ;)

I had to swap my Triumph Spitfire main body after a slow T bone from some a hole coming out of a bowling alley. Picked up a good body from a Export repair shop on the never ever price, just had to change out the vin plate from mine (2 pop rivits) made it easy peasy lemon squeesy . luv the good ole days!
This weekend will be 30 below here in Iowa spring is on vacation in Fl. still for us. I will need both heaters going in my garage Sat. Like the safety straps for the seats ahead of it's time..

Whenever I go anywhere, i usually drive my van. I have a generator in my van. You can also buy a power inverter. To run a small vacuum.

I don't know, I think the amount of rust on this '61 isn't too awful at least for it being a northeast car! Some new floor pans and a couple of heater channels and you could actually cruise it. Aside from making it driveable, front and rear bumper mounts could use a little love I'll bet :-) I didn't know the first thing about welding when I got my '59 and was able to do a semi-decent job MIG-welding heater channel and rear quarters in it. I helped my friend wire-weld heater channels into his dune buggy. I think your car has decent "bones" - great opportunity to try out those new welding skills!
Nice Ted ! yeah , I actually have pretty good $ into the 61 because I hooked a friend up on the black 65 I bundled with it . Your right , it isn't too bad .
the bolts that get tight on the way out are easier to remove if you spray them down again and turn them back in a bit to clean the threads and run the lube through them. then back them out .

I am surprised you did not take both cars, so the guy has a clean property, it looks like either the raccoons were at the car, the way they thrashed the interior it will looks awesome once it is running and the interior is restored

I wonder if pouring Marvel mystery oil down the carburetor? I realize all the valves aren’t open. But some will get in. And also it will lubricate the backside of the valves. Stuck valves?
hi Daniel , I am either going to drag it up towards the house for power ( NOOOO more cars up here lol ) or bring the generator down for shop vac / compressor ..
I poured some in today Daniel . You are right and typically the piston that is stuck is the one with the valve open 👍

That Red cooler (I did not get a good look from video) depending on condition could get $40-$100 (Maybe more?) for a Coleman Vintage (Date is on the bottom). Buff it out and sell it at the next swap meet. Wow, the bolts from the '67 look brand new compared to the rest of the car. My brother finds vintage VW in California and he doesn't see cars at there from what New England Winters do to steel here! In fact he used the term "New England VW" when describing rusted out cars!
It isn't the winter so much as the corrupt deals with the salt companies. Colorado gets as much snow as we do but they plow and sprinkle dirt.

Hey give a product called evap o rust a try for those rusty bolts. Its works great and doesn't leave that black film like the cyder vinegar.

What happened to the interior, it looks like the raccoons were at it or their was a fire inside the car, but it is nice to know that the car is all restored, the roof rack I am talking about is one that was on the car, where the Baja was going, those Roof Racks are scarce, very hard to get, any updates on the car that had water in the engine?.
Be glad its mostly mice you've got to worry about. Rattlesnakes and Water moccasins love old cars down here. And you know better than to say anything's simple.

Jason that 61 looks like Brian's 64 with the windshield delete! Before he put one in! With that Monza exhaust I thought it might have a Ferrari engine!
Brian's 1st windshield was from the 63 ragtop Mustie just picked up & the 2nd is out of that 61 lol ! A Ferrari motor huh, now that would be something :)👍

LOL, I was banging on the 69 Ghia hinge only 80 feet away from the 61 Bug with new hinges . Lost bits, dead drills, 2 trips from our tool supplier and we had new ones " the whole time " ...glove scene from Dumb and Dumber😂

Does your heater asphyxiate you when you are driving in the cold? Mine does. I get a headache and almost fall asleep. The gas fumes are awful. Let me know if it’s normal. Than You. Spring days start off really cool up herein South Dakota.
Roger I have never used one but yours sounds VERY unsafe .
I haven’t used it for about 8 years. The fumes would come out of the heating vents. I almost fell asleep one time. I haven’t driven in in the cold since then. I don’t trust anyone to try and fix it. I took it in for a oil change, he was done in about 5-6 min. I asked him if he cleaned the screen when he drained the oil. He said what screen. And he didn’t find the filter. I took it home and have changed the oil and cleaned the screen myself from then on. Thank you for your response.

How many bolts hold the body onto the chassis. Can you do a detailed video showing how to remove the body.
This one would be a bad candidate for that as most of the pan to body bolts are no longer connected

61 beetles didn't have a fuel gauge. Wasn't standard equipment til 62. Has 67 slanted "towel rod" bumper tops. Still, nice find.

61? Mine had white front signal lenses and a reserve fuel valve with no gas gauge.
Hi Charles , my last 61 was like yours as well . Those turn signals are later , fenders were probably replaced ( it was hit ) . You can see the hole in the firewall for the reserve lever . Thank you for the comment

Hi Andrew , it could be but the body of that 67 baja is SOOO much more solid and will save SOO much welding and time in the end . Also someone pointed out the oval window section being " fake " and they have a valid point ....get the 67 back to true 67 form👍. Thank you for the comment .

You must hunt down and buy cars in the warm weather and you work on them during the winter. Do you have to pay anyone for the cars and vans you find out in the forest? Mice will make a home most anywhere out of anything they find, then they pee and poop all over everything.
the fun of " the chase " is tough to beat ....I paid a good chunk of change for the 61 actually .
In my state, you stop and ask bout an old vehicle, your life is threatened, guess they're more friendly where you live.
