Watching in august of 2021. I haven't played WoW in years and years. I have my fondest memories in World of Warcraft maining a destruction Warlock during MoP :-)
The addon I prefer for my warlock is affdots. It ranges from 100-300 typically when you want to reapply your dots and use chaos bolt etc. preach I recommend that for EVERYONE interested or playing a warlock.
also 1 thing i found really useful as destro, is shadowburn only consumes 1 stack of havoc in comparison to chaos bolt comsuming 3, so if u have a low hp mob and a big mob u can havoc the big mob and shadowburn the low hp mob, hence getting off a max of 6 (3x2 cause of havoc'd mob) shadowburns, which is really nice dps for something like galakras :)
1. You always need to take "Sacrifice" 2. You dont have to spam "Incinirates" to just cap on embers, and then fire CHaos Bolts of. You need save them for big trinket procs 3. You always have to take "Archimonds Darkness", acept for Garrosh HC. 4. You don't even have the "Havoc"x 6 charges of Havoc. 5. Not even a icon to show, your Dark Soul Proc.!
I've been playing my Destruction lock for a few weeks now for funsies, and I've been wondering if I've been doing it right. I appreciated this video because I was already doing everything in it on my own. So I figure that if I'm doing the same thing Preach is, then I must be going ok.
Thank You!! I just boosted my forgotten 60lock and rolled Destruction. You helped me out more than reading forums and other guides. Ever interested in grouping up? I'd love some live runs with you, would help me a ton. GG man!!
I'm watching your video and my main alt is a destro lock, whom i raid on occasionally. I will tell you that glyph of havoc when you correctly is amazing! A 4 CB burst is just amazing! and when the boss is >20% hp and you have 4 embers being able to put out 8 shadow burns is just some amazing burst execute and then being able to put out 4 more incinerates on top of that! While i will admit it takes some time to get used to, it can pull out some amazing dps! Also you should have put a shoutout to glyph of curse of elements. It is pretty god-damn amazing on a lot of fights. E.x. galakras on the pre-boss trash in the encounter.
I would just like to say that grimoire of sacrifice is technically an AOE dps decrease as it doesn't effect the damage of any spells cast under fire and brimstone. You can make up for this if you maximize your shadow burn usage which goSac does effect. Otherwise, supremacy is actually better for AOE.
Actually preach, for destro Grim of sac is the best by far no matter what you're doing for single or multi targets. maybe not in 480gear but anything above 500ilvl it does way more dps. but everything else was correct great guide's keep em up
ehh, not really. you need purified bindings of immerseus and another good trinket, and to play almost perfectly, and to have 15k+ mastery unbuffed. speaking as a 10\14 heroic warlock.
The reason (besides the fact of having a TON of mastery) Grimm of Sac is better is first of all you need the bindings trinket and toxic totem (multistrike) trinket. The multistrike proc does NOT proc from pets so using a pet with this trinket is actually a dps loss
kody mangiavellano You also get a much better and longer ranged interupt from sac. Considering that the observer has to be used for the only actual interupt, it takes time for it to float over when add fights.
kody mangiavellano You are 10/14 HC but don't have 15k unbuffed? Tyler Morrison is right, GoSac is the superior talent at higher item levels. 500 is wrong, but GoSac is the go-to talent for high item levels of say 530+ If you are using any trinket besides PBI and KTT that's just wrong (unless you have BBoY instead of KTT).
Consecra TwitchTV I'm certain he does, no where in his comment does he say he doesn't have 15k mastery unbuffed. But no 530 is generally not going to be an optimal level I've yet to see a warlock in 530 that can reach 15k unbuffed I'd say we're looking more at 545-550ish where the difference is actually there and you won't even notice it till 565ish so unless you are maining a warlock or a talented player that can do a very stable rotation grimoire of supremacy will most likely be the best choice till you reach very high item levels, speak from a 576 Warlock experience.
With all due respect to Preach, his guide is (as he said, "basic") for beginners, not seasoned raiders. Everything he said about warlocks is true, and he gave very good explanations of the class mechanics. However... Your main gemming stat should be intel after 530 ilvl, as well as every possible slot enchant or proc. Intellect gives warlocks two important things: More spell power, multiplying both our damage and our total spell power exponentially as this main stat increases. More critical strike chance, also increasing exponentially as the stat increases. Mastery is your next best stat, as Preach said. Very helpful stat in the 80%+ range. Glyph of Havoc is vital because if you rack up your burning embers to at least two, pop every proc and buff you have, and then havoc a target and hit another target with Chaos Bolt twice, you are getting DOUBLE the damage your normally would out of your initial burst. Tested with my 558 ilvl warlock: Chaos Bolt hits for 2.3 mil x2, twice. Your initial burst dps is going to be phenomenally high. As long as you hold out on your Chaos Bolts and save at least two of them every minute for Havoc, you will be next to top dps, if not top. Some people prefer Grimoire of Supremecy... but I personally use Grimoire of Sacrafice for that extra 15% damage yield. It makes a world of difference compared to your pet having to travel to its target and (hopefully) deal its weight in damage before it dies from healer neglection.
Preacher I was wondering if you could make a video or 3 for doing the green fire quest in the diffrent specs in high detail because your videos are the easiest for me to understand
yo preach just a thought when you make these guide vids mate could you add how you make your TMW buttons for each one you use it will help make things more accessible for people who are not familiar with this addon. Just a thought anywho its all good keep up the vids I have used them for over a year and always recommend my friends to them.
Preach, you're wrong on the grimores. GoSac is single and GoSup with Observer is AoE. GoSac is a dps loss on AoE due to FaB not being affected by the buff.
I would actually recommend people use the glyph of havoc. On a fight like protectos having that double havoc up means you get 4 chaos bolts out of only 2 cast and that adds up a lot when you have 1m+ chaos bolts
Hey Preach, There are a few things in your video that I want to point out. First of all, your talents. GoSup is not the best ST talent. GoSac is better for higher item levels and beats GoSup on a lot of encounters. GoSac beats GoSup on at least 9 of the fights in SoO. I haven't tested it on the last 2 HC Bosses yet but it shines in most of the others. The Conflagrate Glyph is actually very good on fights like HC Blackfuse where the Mines need to be constantly snared. You also failed to mention the Soulstone and Healthstone glyph which have a huge advantage in some fights for both personal survivability and getting someone up with 100% HP. Also, the Unending Resolve Glyph is "BiS" for nearly every fight except Thok. Cheers,
Thanks for this video. It was very helpful. But just to clarify im dropping/reforging crit into mastery? And then geming for hit, expertise and mastery? Also what UI and addons do you use or should be used?
Not using stacks of Backdraft on Chaos Bolt isn't entirely true anymore. Chaos Bolt got buffed at the start of 5.4 meaning it is totally fine to use Chaos Bolt with 3 or more stacks of Backdraft if it means you can squeeze in a Chaos Bolt before a temporary buff drops of. Also concerning Dark Soul: These days you want to line up Dark Soul with the int proc from Purified Bindings of Immerseus (possibly Flex version and above but don't quote me on that). PBoI have an ICD of 115 seconds which usually lines up perfectly with DS. Furthermore, DS isn't such a strong CD today as it used to be due to the massive intellect procs you can get. If you don't have PBoI however you should use DS on CD. An unbuffed Chaos Bolt for me currently does about 800k while a heavily buffed Chaos Bolt can do above 3 million dmg so don't cast too many unbuffed CBs! :)
hi just started to play a warlock. My question is how do u get the green fire rain that looks like poison? I know it might be stupid to u guys like I said I just started to play the warlock.
blazeboy777 The warlocks in my heroic guild play affliction for a few of the fights in SoO, particularly Protectors and Klaxxi, although it is definitely top in single-target and stacked multi-target.
Search for Tell me When under his youtube channel, you'll find a guide where he sets up mind blast for a Shadow priest to appear 2seconds before its ready. He explains how to set up the conditions for the spell, you just have to apply that to your class/spec.
If your using sac you will not "always" use the observer each pet gives a different buff which can be nice for different fights, such as the imp to dispel yourself on sha.
MatrixDevil16 Yeah... Thanks for that. But I kinda figured it out after almost a month. Besides that, I now have a 100 (621) Hunter and that I'm going to take Raiding soon.
I wish aff was better but I do 100k+ without buffs as a destro lock LFR gear and barely get over 100k with aff LFR gear with buffs. The damage difference is huge for me. Although I wish demo was viable with low gear levels.
nice video :) I am maining lock this patch, I love it and soo is made for destro 14/14 normal destro is the way to go for progression :) btw preach please do green fire quest line, film it :D I promise you will love it :) I did it first week I dinged in 5.4 and somehow I blame this quest to teach me how to really play that class :)
There is alot of mis information here preach. GoSac is completely useless in aoe situations due to F+B not benefiting from GoSac. In fact GoSup is more useful in aoe situations due to this very fact (your pet continues to do damage whilst you aoe). Gosac with a high crit build for single target and cleave situations.
Personally I miss my old Infernal, the Abyssal is cool, but not as cool as the Infernal imo. I would like a glyph that makes our GoSupr demons look like our old ones.
you use mortal coin on 3 fights, iron jug. and thok. Malkorok because they are single target- just to get extra 15% heal if needed, else is MF. Also on 2 fights I sacrifice imp one is thok just to be able dispelling myself .
Glyphs are boring as hell I admit..the only thing I would point out that is useful, is glyph of fear, which turns fear into a viable cc for raids/dungeons Preach :)
Not completely, mastery outscales crit and haste but those 2 are nearly the same. Crit is better for single target while haste is better for aoe but the diffences are like 1-2% in damage
Ádám Papp Yes. Still its not like Warrior that CRIT is the ONLY stat :D or Druid with Master being ONLY STAT... Warlock benefits whatever you have. You can reforge to master but if you will have a crit/mastery gear you don't need to touch it :)
Jakub Oboza No mastery is definitely our only stat and the higher it goes the better we scale, the more mastery we have the better Grimoire of Sacrifice and Kardris's Toxic totem do and if you don't have the mastery for those 2 to be optimal you are losing an incredible amount of dps. Our stats are close as far as crit and haste go but every single spec we have is a mastery spec at the moment there isn't a single instance where that isn't true even Affliction only aims for a low haste break point in favor of mastery now. Crit is our best single target and gets better the higher your item level goes and haste is better for aoe but scales somewhat worse than crit so generally a 570+ warlock that mains destruction will want a Mastery > Crit build unless you are progressing on a fight with large amounts of aoe (Galakras comes to mind) but outside of that crit is generally better on most fights from what I've found.
Damion Mason i just prefer haste over crit. it makes such a small difference. i have max mastery for my gear, around 19k and 16k haste with only 3k crit. i just like haste a lot more. also because i swap to affliction a lot.
Gijs101 Well Max mastery is more around the 22kish mark in BiS mastery gear but 16k haste is a crap ton especially if you are rolling with only 3k crit, if you main affliction on most fights I can see it but having that much haste severely devalues blood lust and our meta gem proc. I also don't see how you have those stats because I'm at 576 item level with 19.6k mastery 12.6kish crit and 2500 haste you must have Black blood and be reforging out of mastery somewhere or gemming haste which I can't recommend because haste for destro is okay until you hit a certain point where it really hurts you because haste's value is lowered when you are gcd capping with incinerate all the time which at that haste level I'd imagine every backdraft you are gcd capped and none backdrafted you are gcd capped if you have tempus repit or blood lust going. I mean you should play how you want and if you make it work thats great I just can't even imagine that being a viable build for destruction.
There are many many warlock guides out at the moment that are great. This is not one of them. You should be taking advice from geared and or experienced warlocks not someones random 508 alt.
Juul Dh Are you talking about preach? If so cool, and gratz to him. But a lot has changed since 2011 so just because someone was in a decent raiding guild 2-3 years ago does not mean he has the knowledge to make a great class guide. It's an ok guide at best but there are many out there.
Destruction Warlock "Basic DPS" Guide. This isn't made to comb through every specific encounter to find the optimal settings and to provide maximum efficiency of every possible scenario. This is to ease people into playing destruction and not to provide a huge wealth of information as this can easily intimidate new players. This is the type of guide that a new player to the spec can easily pick up and follow through with more advanced guides after they are setting in. A casual player or reroller does not give a flying fuck about what reforging they need for SoO heroic. Also consider that most people probably don't have 570ilevel, when people watch a guide like this they tend to associate themselves with the level of gear the guide producer has. This is misleading information in the same fashion as a player who makes montage videos, the expectations are set too high for new players and they get disappointed that they can't pull numbers anywhere close. I would profess as to having at least ToT LFR gear to keep expectations of rerolling appropriate and to provide a framework for new players to follow. To state again, this is NOT a guide for advanced play, the clue is in the title. Overwhelming information is really bad. Also, the dude makes guides for all classes, not easy to make time for a youtube channel, a fiancee, a baby and to raid hardcore on 11 characters :)
i tottally agree with you but it is a "great guide". though not advanced, why its called basic dps guide, btw, how bored were you to clear this up... it quite a long story :P
RaZDaZ Alright I will concede that its a decent guide aimed at a very new warlock and beginner player. I suggest that they look at mmo-champion forums and more in depth guides as they become more comfortable with the class. As there are many many more advanced things to be learnt.
Watching in august of 2021. I haven't played WoW in years and years. I have my fondest memories in World of Warcraft maining a destruction Warlock during MoP :-)

thanks preach most guides confuse the hell out of me you made this understandable

But thanks for the guide :) Extremely helpful.
Any Drama Timers represent?
Looking back at mop i realized that lock was at its peak of class design, with mop demo being the coolwst spec ive ever ppayed

I would love to learn how to set up that ui for skull banner and spell tracking. Tried our weak aura and never figured it out :S
Does anyone know what Preacher's text font addon is?? Nothing with his UI or action bars, just the font of his damage text. Thanks!
Was anyone else watching the rotation of the green fire lock and only half listening to Preach?
Preacher I was wondering if you could make a video or 3 for doing the green fire quest in the diffrent specs in high detail because your videos are the easiest for me to understand
Thanks for the video. May I know what add on is that in the middle that's counting down that immolate DoT?
What's the name of the addon he uses to get those abilities in the middle of the screen when he targets a target?
Im here for the Keybinds
are you going to make a new UI video would love to have this ui for my dps toons
yo preach just a thought when you make these guide vids mate could you add how you make your TMW buttons for each one you use it will help make things more accessible for people who are not familiar with this addon.
Just a thought anywho its all good keep up the vids I have used them for over a year and always recommend my friends to them.
could you guide me how to set up tellmewhen like yours? ive tried and im too stupid to work it out.
Preach, you're wrong on the grimores. GoSac is single and GoSup with Observer is AoE.

Survival hunter next time preach? That'll be awesome :)
Can u explain to me what is skull banner? Im french so i did not understand all parts of ur vids.. but verry helpful thx!
That was very helpfull Preach...cheers m8 !!! Greetings from the Netherlands :)
So, single target wise we should hold our Dark Soul for Banner or a crit trinket proc?
Are those Tidy name plates? Where can i check out your latest UI list?
Thanks
what font is that for on his damage? looks awesome.
Hey Preach,
There are a few things in your video that I want to point out.

Cheers,
Thanks for this video. It was very helpful. But just to clarify im dropping/reforging crit into mastery? And then geming for hit, expertise and mastery? Also what UI and addons do you use or should be used?
what ui skin you using? i prefer the look you have over default blizz one
hi
just started to play a warlock. My question is how do u get the green fire rain that looks like poison? I know it might be stupid to u guys like I said I just started to play the warlock.
Greenfire questline I think
Yeah it's the greenfire questline.
Hey Preach picked up Gui!
If you see this preach, have you managed to get around the talent/glyph change bug with that UI? Cheers.
Destro too mainstream :D will you do Demo and Aff warlocks ? ;)
true, but problem is that destro is so much better this tier :/ kinda need in 10man as long as you progress Normal
blazeboy777 The warlocks in my heroic guild play affliction for a few of the fights in SoO, particularly Protectors and Klaxxi, although it is definitely top in single-target and stacked multi-target.
Ted Wallace if your locks are affliction on Klaxxi they are probably doing it just to pad the damage meters.
Destro warlocks are HORRIBLE on Thok
Dainn Greywall Destro is far from horrible on thok and if you don't do fire door first (so a longer fight and bats) its better then Affliction.
Awesome guide again, quick question though how did you set up your TMW? I just can't figure out how to set it up like yours there.
Search for Tell me When under his youtube channel, you'll find a guide where he sets up mind blast for a Shadow priest to appear 2seconds before its ready. He explains how to set up the conditions for the spell, you just have to apply that to your class/spec.
You gonna upload a new ui video?
Preach, what's the names of the addons you are using?
did u get your warlocks name from avenged sevenfolds former drummer ?
If your using sac you will not "always" use the observer each pet gives a different buff which can be nice for different fights, such as the imp to dispel yourself on sha.
Been waiting for this!!!!!!!
whats the UI/bar mods your using?
So what is stat priority? should I focus in mastery?
curse of the element, don't forget.
Just a quick question : What UI are you using? It's not ElvUI is it?
TukUI
Take me back.
What UI are you using? I like it
where are these horrific keybinds, m8
should you role a: warlock video
mmm the switch to the fragi from method
type ui i like it
It's best not to dump both of your conflags... You'll want to dump one, get 3 immolates off, then do conflag again, repeat... (read backdraft)
What class fires those big arcing green bolts? Sorry I'm a noob :x
its a warlock but with changed particles... the color of the skills are changed to green
MatrixDevil16 Yeah... Thanks for that. But I kinda figured it out after almost a month. Besides that, I now have a 100 (621) Hunter and that I'm going to take Raiding soon.
Do you know how to rock without addons?
Why the diffrent ui son?
what are thos 2 addons he is using
preach make the new UI video guide pls :)
Whatis this Font ?? Please HELP!!
Love smashing juggernaut with over 3mill chaos bolts watching the tanks scream as I've burst is to much aggro
Very helpful. Thanks a million.
I wish aff was better but I do 100k+ without buffs as a destro lock LFR gear and barely get over 100k with aff LFR gear with buffs. The damage difference is huge for me. Although I wish demo was viable with low gear levels.
you can use havoc to transfer shadowburns too i believe
What UI are you using?
Tuk UI
Thank you!
Rain of fire?
nice video :) I am maining lock this patch, I love it and soo is made for destro 14/14 normal destro is the way to go for progression :) btw preach please do green fire quest line, film it :D I promise you will love it :) I did it first week I dinged in 5.4 and somehow I blame this quest to teach me how to really play that class :)
Bring mop destro locks back
YES! Warlocks! :) Thank You

U just earned my sub
I love these vids.
Glyphs are boring as hell I admit..the only thing I would point out that is useful, is glyph of fear, which turns fear into a viable cc for raids/dungeons Preach :)
Finally
it sucks cause i dont have a warrior in my raid group so ill never have that 20% crit buff :( ill never really be at my fullest potential
Almost every stat is on 1 multiplier so there is no need to reforge anything :> just get better gear and you get more dps in a linear fashion.
Crit is our best single target and gets better the higher your item level goes and haste is better for aoe but scales somewhat worse than crit so generally a 570+ warlock that mains destruction will want a Mastery > Crit build unless you are progressing on a fight with large amounts of aoe (Galakras comes to mind) but outside of that crit is generally better on most fights from what I've found.

i just prefer haste over crit. it makes such a small difference. i have max mastery for my gear, around 19k and 16k haste with only 3k crit. i just like haste a lot more. also because i swap to affliction a lot.
Glyph of nightmares(Minor Glyph) is the only glyph I need ^^
you could loot at sparkuggz hes froum method and also had an website
And you do it gooooo MIKE:-)
The way you say grimoire is funny ^^
WARLOCK!!!!! Finally
His fucking DoT does more dmg than my 466 paladin
the glyphs are awesome :D but then i'm biased
Oh and AD is pretty much better than KJC. All you need to know is where to move and switch BR on.
There are many many warlock guides out at the moment that are great. This is not one of them. You should be taking advice from geared and or experienced warlocks not someones random 508 alt.
this guy has downed deathwing realm first hc on his warlock -.-
Juul Dh Are you talking about preach?
Also, the dude makes guides for all classes, not easy to make time for a youtube channel, a fiancee, a baby and to raid hardcore on 11 characters :)
i tottally agree with you but it is a "great guide". though not advanced, why its called basic dps guide,
btw, how bored were you to clear this up... it quite a long story :P
RaZDaZ Alright I will concede that its a decent guide aimed at a very new warlock and beginner player. I suggest that they look at mmo-champion forums and more in depth guides as they become more comfortable with the class. As there are many many more advanced things to be learnt.
thanks so much!
Just pointing out it's pronounced GRIM-OUAH, not GRY-MORE. :D
Pronounced differently in different areas of the world.
No.
Yes.
Warlocks are the ugly friend out of the group of friends.
ty good guide
When somebody says "sick ad fu**" that means awesome, amazing, great... Not boring or useless. Get
