You forgot one _major_ consequence of these timelines, specially the North Korea winning: the efect on Japan. With a fully comunist Korea right next door, (only 50km), I'd be willing to bet the US would not only base a lot more troops and equipment in Japan, but would also invest a lot more on rebuilding Japan faster...
In a way N.Korea or in this case commie korea wouldn't in itself threaten the western Alliance such as nowadays Commie Korea would basically be a puppet state fits entire existence
The unification of Germany almost killed the Germany’s economy. However, the economic gap between South Korea and North Korea is much deeper than Germany in 90s. To be honest, I think we went too far to unify the countries. I’m not sure the South Korea can handle the shock of the unification at this point. If that happen, the economy of the South Korea might collapse.
@자명종 - Yeah, South Korea is unstable enough as it is within, despite its outward glamour. There are lots of inflation bubbles waiting to collapse in the economy, especially the exorbitantly rising house prices, and unemployment rates are high. To make things worse, social tensions are also at an all-time high under the very hypocritical Moon Stonekid regime, which pretends to care for the poor and neglected but actually harms them and the other “less unfortunate” people because it consists of literal (credits to Academy Award-winning movie director Jun-ho Bong) like Cho Kuk, feeding and profiting from the rage of select groups they pretend to represent by artificially making up Enemies of the State like Japan, residues of previous dictatorships, doctors, wealthy businesses like Samsung that actually keep the nation afloat in global trade, etc. Unifying with North Chosun now would crack the country like a fried egg.
As a korean, I really thank you for sharing this opinion/thesis of yours. I found it truly interesting. I mean, it could have been better if we won the war, but at the same time it could have indeed been worse. Although they say there is no 'what if... issues' in history, all of us(koreans, that is) dream of uniting. Out of the title of 'the last of the seperated countries'
Basically: If South Won, it would be like East and West Germany If North Won, it would be Like Vietnam War, except in Korea, and America either loses or wins Vietnam war.
That's a different situation though. The Vietnamese leadership were relatively descent people considering while the south leadership were horrible bastards. If you want prove the Vietnamese were the ones that took out Pol pot.
I work with two people who grew up in South Vietnam who would strongly disagree that North Vietnamese weren't that bad They had to flee to America as children to avoid being sent to concentration camps

@@ryanjapan3113 not sorta completely. The swaztika should be viewed like a novelty. Especially considering how irrelevant it has been in comparison to mass genocide committed by Communists.
@@anirudhkumar4507 Communists started both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. They are most definitely the bad guys in both situations. It doesn't excuse the retaliations committed by the anti-communists. But it would have been (and was) FAR worse the other way round.
If no oil existed, a educational and knowledge revolution like in the 1960's would occur once more on a larger scale. As with this, socialist or communist regimes would come into power. Now the main difference here is that, funny enough, those nations can easily nationalise and industrialise themselves as there lands are in fact, very good and soil is strong in nutrients. Islam would have a different view point and would spread globally much faster and the ideology of radical Islam would be a joke, along with those Islamists being executed. One must remember, without American invasion, all of this still would have happened, however, with Americas support of radical Islamists in order to combat communist uprising, we now witness groups like Isis and al Qaeda.
It's hilarious that Quebec thought it could leave without paying the insane amount of debts it owes to the rest of the country. Which is why it well never happen.
Muammar Gibran As in Earth developed so there was less ocean then landmass, hence 70% land, 30% ocean (but humans still lived on the land - there is just a lot less of it).
earth wouldn't work cuz all metals and earth turn to water including the core. if you mean the crust, all the landforms turn to water and leak back into the new land that used to be water and earth's surface would be relatively flat now that al landforms became water leaving patches of water and flat lands that were once water
Going a bit farther in the divergence...if the US sorted things out with China, meaning the Chinese trusted the Americans enough to keep their troops on the border instead of actually re-invading Korea, it could lead to all sorts of interesting diplomatic tensions. The USSR would _really_ hate China, but it wouldn't be hard for the wrong US president to tick off the Chinese. Hm..._scribble scribble_
I disagree when you say it's the last remnant of the cold war. The three way division of Romania, Moldova, and Transnistria is another thing you can cover in this series.
I think his idea is that the major colonial powers were in the americas instead of Europe, and that Eurasia was a lot less developed, just like the Americas were in our timeline.
뽀 China, US and especially Japan love to have an divided Korea. They do not like to have a independent, strong Korea next to them and using Korean from both sides to limit the potential of each. These countries have involved deeply in the structure of politics and army on both side of Korea since the war. Very complex situation compare to Germany and Vietnam.
South Korea began to develop during the 1960s. The country's economy grew many times larger by the time it was the 1980s... although the living standards were still behind the OECD countries at that time (especially the South Korean countryside).
Another good one. One thing was missed though - MacArthur, commander of all the American forces in Asia, wanted to drop an H bomb on North Korea. He pushed for this over and over again until Truman finally fired him. But what if MacArthur had gone ahead and dropped it. Some believed that he had the power to make that choice. Truman's fear was that both China and the Soviet Union would wage war on the US, thus ushering in WW3. But MacArthur was not beyond dropping a bomb on China as well. This might have been enough of a deterrent to keep China from escalating the conflict after the US vaporized Pyongyang. And if China refused to fight it out and take the hit, then the Soviet Union might have also stepped back, because Stalin wanted to simply send war materials to China and to let China send the soldiers so as not to bloody the Russian army. And if the nuke was dropped on the North while there were still hundreds of thousands of elite Chinese troops there, it might have been a huge military blow to the Chinese, to loose so many of their men and commanders. I think that if this had happened, then your assessment of the alternate start of the Vietnam war could well be correct. Once the Korean conflict was won, and the US had dropped no less than three atomic bombs within six years - the US may very well puff up its chest and move into French Indo-China at the first sign of the Communists there seeking independence. You are right in that it would be the US coming to the defense of the French Colonies in Southeast Asia before all of the French are murdered. Again, the Soviet Union and Red China might well stay out of this mess as well. And once the rebellions in Vietnam and Cambodia were stopped then the path would be clear for the US to intervene in Indonesia, Burma, Iran, Egypt, and eventually China itself, leading maybe to a disheartened Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall never going up. SO instead of a Cold War we would have had a Hot War, but it would be limited, and the Western alliance would have come out as the victor, with Eastern Europe joining the West a decade or two earlier. How is that for an alternate history?
vicks008kid it isn't as bad as you think in Eastern Germany. My parents come from there, i grew up in the west. But eventhough it has been 27 years of a united germany now, the east still is economically weaker and the people still make a divide between "Ossis" and "Wessis" (Easterners and Westerners)
Here's the thing people forget. When Germany unified it cost the German government MILLIONS of euros, it was a gargantuan task. It literally could not be done alone. So the entire European Union contributed for the union (YES German Union was OK'ed by the UK and France + Other EU members including Greece). Korea would face a similar issue and without outside help, it would certainly be a crisis that would leave most south koreans worse off. Added to that developing communist areas is not easy, I get tears each time East Germany is described in videos. It is once glorious rich and powerful region of Germany that will probably never be as rich and powerful as the west again. (It certainly isn't a hellhole now, but it was in much better shape than North Korea is today.)
Even Korea is united, South cannot expect to give high quality subsidies to North but only foods can be supplied. I do not know how East Germany had helped but looks they had overwhelming money from West Germany but later decades Germany looks stopped invest industrial infrastructure to the East. There are still many problem Germany could do better. I do not doubt there will be construction of new buildings and highways in North and that will cost a lot of money.
You think the current refugee crisis going on in Europe is bad? It would seem like nothing compared to what South Korea would have to deal with, if it had to deal with the North falling. China would close off their boarder, they already place military there to block North Koreans from fleeing into China, if a NK/US war seems likely. South Korea would be RUINED if the North fell. North Korea has close to 25 million people, most are malnourished, brainwashed, and low educated. They would need tons of aid from allies. West and East Germany division would be nothing compared to North and South Korea division.
This'll mean the first progressive movement never ended and added more regulation to stop corporate gambling and exploitation. The 1920's would be the more like the 1950's where everybody from the even lowest class and impoverished race would have money to spend. Economically a true American capitalist ideal that everyone would have a nice house with a picket fence before they were 30.
Well for one Keynesian economics would never become relevant which already creates an extremely different timeline. Also welfare programs either don't come until later or not at all.
@@doctorapocalypse7073 who's we? And whos the say that the noeth koreans over there at Pyongyang want to be liberated under what they call"suppresive imperialistic capitalists"? We need a two state solution. The only way now to reunify korea is if noeth korea naturally reunify into south korean and its society. Forceful reunification only brings more problems for both parties. I would rather want a natural reunification in 50 than a forceful one in 10 years
@@doctorapocalypse7073 After 70 years or so of brainwashing, propaganda and personality cult I don't think North Koreans would just welcome with open arms their southern neighbours. Also, the South isn't really that worried about reunification, given the massive hit it would mean to the economy and how they would have to rebuild Northern infrastructure, deal with the cultural shock of millions of North Koreans finding that their wasn't a «paradise», etc.
It’s only the elite few or the well do to ... the rest are just faking it - wake up - yes there will be a period of adjustment but North Korea as a whole would welcome the liberation
David Ndiulor America is a continent. The United States of America is a country. America includes both North and South America, so it's technically 2 continents
Culture doesn't matter. Culture shocks on both sides, especially from North Korea, will be a good lesson for humanity to achieve world peace, or at least Korean peace.
Here's some background to the Winter War: The Soviet Union and Nazi Germany signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in August 1939. The pact was nominally a non-aggression treaty, but it included a secret protocol in which the Eastern European countries (such as the Baltic states, Poland, Romania) were divided into spheres of interest. Finland fell into the Soviet sphere. Practically this made the Soviets and Nazis allies to each other. Map of territorial changes in Europe 1939-1940: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4c/Ribbentrop-Molotov.svg On 5 October 1939, the Soviet Union invited a Finnish delegation to Moscow for border negotiations. The Soviets demanded that the border between the USSR and Finland on the Karelian Isthmus be moved westward to a point only 30 km (19 mi) east of Viipuri and that the Finns destroy all existing fortifications on the Karelian Isthmus. They also demanded the cession of islands in the Gulf of Finland as well as the Kalastajansaarento peninsula. Furthermore, the Finns would have to lease the Hanko Peninsula for thirty years and permit the Soviets to establish a military base there. In exchange, the Soviet Union would cede two municipalities with twice the territory demanded from Finland. Accepting Soviet demands would have forced the Finns to dismantle their defences in Finnish Karelia, _which would have allowed Soviet troops invade Finland much easier through the Karelian Isthmus_. Finns refused. Map: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0a/Soviet-finnish_negotiations_1939_borderline.png On 26 November, *the Soviets staged the shelling of Mainila, an incident in which Soviet artillery shelled area near the Russian village of Mainila* and then announced that a Finnish artillery attack had killed Soviet soldiers. The Finns denied any responsibility for the attack and rejected the demands, calling for a joint Finnish-Soviet commission to examine the incident. The Soviet Union claimed that the Finnish response was hostile, and used it as an excuse to withdraw from the non-aggression pact. A few days later Soviet Union attacked Finland. The Soviet military forces expected a victory over Finland in a few weeks, because the Soviet army had many more tanks and planes than the Finnish army. However, the Finnish forces resisted both better and far longer than expected. One reason the Finnish forces did better is because they had good winter clothes and they wore white coats which camouflaged them in the snow. As well, the Finnish soldiers moved around on skis, which made it easy for them to sneak up on the Soviet soldiers. The Soviet army was poorly equipped to winter warfare, and they wore dark green coats, which made them easy to see in the snow. Map of the war situation in December 1939: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/99/Winterwar-december1939-karelianisthmus.png Despite that Finnish troops won many battles (such as Tolvajärvi, Raate Road, Suomussalmi, Kollaa, Taipale), they eventually began to run out of ammunition and manpower. At the same time the Soviet army began to attack with more men and guns, pushing Finns to the outskirts of Viipuri, but failed to capture the city. On 12 March 1940, Moscow Peace Treaty was signed in Moscow. Finland ceded territory representing 11% of its land area and 13% of its economy to the Soviet Union. Soviet losses were heavy (nearly 200 000 soldiers from million men were killed), and the country's international reputation suffered. Finland, which lost about 26 000 men from 340 000, retained its sovereignty and enhanced its international reputation. Map of the Karelian Isthmus on 13 March 1940, the last day of the Winter War: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0b/Karelian_Isthmus_13_March_1940.png I'd like to see two scenarios on this: 1) What if the Soviet forces couldn't have reorganized its army and instead kept failing at the Karelian Isthmus? 2) What if the Franco-British forces would have arrived to help Finns to push the Soviets back to the pre-war border?
In addition, Soviet propaganda claimed back then that "all they wanted to do was to secure Leningrad's safety". In reality, Soviet Union planned the occupation and annexation of Finland, which can be shown in this map: heninen.net/sopimus/fdr1939.jpg As the map shows, much of Eastern Karelia would have been incorporated to "Soviet Finland". Had the USSR annexed Finland, it would have faced very similar fate as the Baltic stated did in 1940 (mass deportations, massacres of native people by Soviets etc.).
I think Korea will unite at some point, but only after North Korea sees a complete collapse of their military and economic power, what liitle they have
한국의 재통일은 불가능할거 같아보입니다. 반세기가 넘도록 분단이 고착화되자 양국의 경제 수준과 문화도 달라졌구요. 무엇보다도, DPRK와 ROK는 다른 민족이 됬습니다. I think it is impossible for Korea to be reunified now. As the division became entrenched, the economic level and culture of the two countries changed. It's already become a completely different race.
The total difference in Ideology makes it impossible. The way north Koreans think and their values are totally different from us. We are more separated than US-China
Will Nicholson very late to this, extra spicy ww1 (Britain would probably treat the United Kingdom of the Netherlands the same as a big Belgium) same ww2, extra thicc Dutch nation for the rest of the modern age
There is a scenario where North Korea is "destroyed:" If General MacArthur had listened to the intelligence and advice given to him and fortified a line in formerly North Korea. Rather than get kicked back all the way past Seoul they could have held the line leading to a stalemate that is, territory wise, is very favorable to South Korea. North Korea is reduced to a rump state on the border of China, the Korean March.
Outcomes of Korea never splitting: - Production of K-Pop and K-Dramas doubled - North Korean Boy/Girl Bands - Kim Jong Un working at McDonalds - Pyonang and Seoul becoming a state - A different capital - More girls addicted to Korea
It would change the scenario drasticly. The south of Korea has almost all of the fertile soil, while the north has a lot of mining and industry. We would propably see the south having much more trouble develop with many famines, while the south aided by the Soviets and Chinese and with no aparant food problems would be in a much better position. Plus they could just flank the south and unite the teo Koreas, so there's that.
I have a suggestion for a future episode: What if England won the Hundred Years' War? I think its interesting what will happen to the future had this took place considering it would have affected the British Empire's development and we all know it was the world's largest empire. Also, it might have a significant impact on the world as a whole if had occurred given that Great Britain was the largest empire the world has ever seen. I was actually waiting for such alternate history scenario because it was still not yet done. Plus, the possibilities of that scenario could have been endless due to the War shaping the identity of England and France.
We might actually be able to pool together the three computers available in the two states to create a LAN network dedicated to sharing erotic pictures of corn!
0:20 that's oversimplification. Maybe an American can't see it but effects and divisions of the cold war are still alive in Europe, especially Eastern Europe and East Germany (differences in wealth and sallary)
Exactly. The situation mainly got worse for the people in the East. I’m not saying I support the East, but politically, it was much better than the West, and the Soviet economy worked very well.
Keep acting like you Westerners are who knows how much superior by spreading your Western Propaganda. The Truth is we're all friends. We had problems back in the day but mostly on the same team now. There is just as much Eastern nations in NATO and the EU. You are nowhere near superior people compared to us, it's just that we chose to try out capitalism for a change, and what better way than to make friends with countries who were already using it (aka western European nations)? the only reason there is a difference in the average paycheck of a citizen between the 2 regions is simply because sneaky people in our governments are trying to stay socialist instead of move along with our capitalistic plan. Anyways people from both places are equal and mutually friendly towards each other, it's just that the west tends to spew out some thick propaganda occasionally. What should be learned is we contributed just as much to Europe and the world.
LuigiOnHero Japan was under pressure from Britain and the United States to modernize in the 19th century, so- even without the Meiji Restoration, the military would still need to innovate past the feudal samurai-system... Something or other would still have to give...
If they were to have never been forced open they probably would've been another china. Something along the lines of adopting western technologies but not adopting western ideas that prove counter to their thinking. Completely slowing down their modernization and leaving them vulnerable to western demands. They were forced out of their isolation by western demands and not by their own ideals. Meiji restoration came when the forces of the shogunate/anti-westernization was brought down by the imperial/western friendly forces. With no opposition to adopt western ideas they quickly adopted all western ideas including imperialism.

It could be a little better than North unifying Korean Peninsula, but Japanese conservative like Abe still allowing korean commies called , Chong Ryun in Japan to use block and kill South Korean advancing to North . America seems more and more pulling back from reunification plan because it virtually impossible mission without American bloodshed . So, wants to stabilize as what its now - two koreas policy. Yeah, Finnish national movement was mostly started because of the Swedish loss in the Great Northern War and the resulting Russian occupation. I doubt Finland would be a sovereign state right now if Sweden had won. Russia would most likely still exist although it would most likely not be a superpower and might have splintered in one point.

Cody, This video got me thinking about what would have happened if the USA had supported Ho-Chi Minh? But what if we supported Ho-Chi Minh in Vietnam?

0:26 "...Korea is so culturally split is so split that reunification is a laughable joke." Yeah, I remember that exact thing being said about Germany when I was a kid in 1990. **yawn**
North Korea and South Korea are much more divided now than West and East Germany were. The average person is West Germany was only 2 times richer than the average person in East Germany at unification, while the average South Korean is about 23 times richer than the average North Korean now. South Korea has significantly more developed infrastructure than North Korea, where modern roads are practically nonexistent. North Korea's culture is significantly different than South Korea's, being the most authoritarian nation in the world and one of the poorest. South Korea and North Korea have been separated twice as long as West and East Germany. In fact, by this point the 2 nations have even developed distinct dialects. The Vast majority of young South Koreans do not want reunification. A reunified Korea would cause a massive refugee crisis. East Germany could be developed at far less of an expense for West Germany than North Korea could for South Korea. Developing North Korea would cost 3 trillion dollars, and likely result in massive economic collapse for South Korea as well as Bankruptcy. The Soviet Union could not keep West and East and East Germany from reuniting, while China can and 100% will keep North Korea and South Korea from reuniting. North Korea's leadership is significantly less receptive to reunification than East Germany's was. An utterly unimaginably vast majority North Koreans very strongly do not want to reunify under South Korea's political and economic system. Overall, yes, reunification in Korea is a joke, and massively more difficult, improbable, and unlikely than West and East Germany.
There is no south Korean enclave in North Korea and vice versa meaning no flow of information in between them also Germany didn't had a violent Civil War that killed millions of people

What if there was war on an interplanetary scale? like against other planets , wouldnt it be best to just unify for the good of all humanity by putting differences aside and realizing how similar we are compared to (hypothetical aliens)?
And what if this backfired and Russia simply revived the Soviet Union in order to save her people? That wouldn't be of much assistance to you, would it?
I think that with a world war on their doorstep, every former member state would definetely join the Union if it were to be recreated. Besides, it could only be Russia at the beginning
Actually, as said by the korean economist Byung-Yeon KIM in his book "Unveiling the North Korean economy" (2017, Cambridge University Press), despite a huge cost in short/middle-term, "A strong consensus exists among researchers and policy-makers in South Korea. They agree that the economic benefits accrued from the unification will be larger than the costs associated with it mainly because the benefits will last far longer than the costs will."
I don't think so, if geographically and resources wise, then Vietnam has a lot of for them to sell and exist like now, and korea doesn't have favorable geography and lots of resources so think they would be poorer than Vietnam if they were a communist countries like Vietnam
Hung Nguyen Technically, North Korea has one of the largest rare earth mineral reserves on Earth. It'll be a literal goldmine for tech companies and industries. *Germany, Prussia* ....Please say that slowly. Yes a unified Korea today is unlikely and would look like an amalgamation, but it was culturally easier in the Korean War.
He sort of covered that in his "what if 9/11 didn't happen" video. The Arab Spring would have still happened and either he would have been deposed or there would have been a civil war.
@jaydee040 I am repeating his, but to me the logic is sound. The Arab Spring deposed the leadership in Egypt, destroyed Libya, and thrust Syria into a civil war that is still going. It isn't that far a jump in logic to think Iraq would have been affected as well. Watch his video.
@jaydee040 Your point actually strengthens the argument that the Saddam government could have fallen or been thrust into a civil war even if 9/11 didn't happen. Let us accept as you are stating that the US somehow steered this revolutionary movement and was directly involved in the overthrow of Gaddafi. It is that hard to also conclude that they could do the same to Saddam, a leader that they had even more reason to dislike?
7:50 If the US went to Vietnam in the 50s, not just the French but the Kuomintang/Chinese Nationalists would help them since they were in Burma: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuomintang_in_Burma I'm wondering if that happened, would all of Indochina be merged and united under the KMT together with Taiwan?
Actually there's a more realistic way that the North could have won, and it involves a UN veto. The Soviet's could have easily vetoed any foreign involvement in Korea to help their friend, but since they were boycotting the UN at the time over something else, they lost that chance and the North lost its chance at securing all of Korea.
North Korea would have to somehow become a democracy and slowly fix itself before it can ever reunite with South Korea it can’t happen overnight. It’s also possible for the two countries to stay divided but the north could become a free country and allow free travel across the peninsula. South Korea would need to stay unaltered while a new government is set up in the north.

Depending on the water dispersal, most of the land would probably be an uninhabitable desert since the oceans drive the weather.

What if Korea was divided into two like Germany?
Awww I wanted to see what if Korea was Unified today?!?? Would Korea have an Economic crisis because of the North?
can confirm. am romanian.
vicks008kid it isn't as bad as you think in Eastern Germany.
What if the Great Depression never happened?
It coudn't be avoided
Cas Van De Ven this is all theoretical

This'll mean the first progressive movement never ended and added more regulation to stop corporate gambling and exploitation. Economically a true American capitalist ideal that everyone would have a nice house with a picket fence before they were 30.
Well for one Keynesian economics would never become relevant which already creates an extremely different timeline. Also welfare programs either don't come until later or not at all.

*What if Finland had won the Winter War?*
Come on, Cody. We know can do that video!
Here's some background to the Winter War:
The Soviet Union and Nazi Germany signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in August 1939.
Map of territorial changes in Europe 1939-1940: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4c/Ribbentrop-Molotov.svg
On 5 October 1939, the Soviet Union invited a Finnish delegation to Moscow for border negotiations.
Map: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0a/Soviet-finnish_negotiations_1939_borderline.png
On 26 November, *the Soviets staged the shelling of Mainila, an incident in which Soviet artillery shelled area near the Russian village of Mainila* and then announced that a Finnish artillery attack had killed Soviet soldiers.
Map of the war situation in December 1939: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/99/Winterwar-december1939-karelianisthmus.png
Despite that Finnish troops won many battles (such as Tolvajärvi, Raate Road, Suomussalmi, Kollaa, Taipale), they eventually began to run out of ammunition and manpower.
Map of the Karelian Isthmus on 13 March 1940, the last day of the Winter War: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0b/Karelian_Isthmus_13_March_1940.png
I'd like to see two scenarios on this:
1) What if the Soviet forces couldn't have reorganized its army and instead kept failing at the Karelian Isthmus?
2) What if the Franco-British forces would have arrived to help Finns to push the Soviets back to the pre-war border?
In addition, Soviet propaganda claimed back then that "all they wanted to do was to secure Leningrad's safety".
In reality, Soviet Union planned the occupation and annexation of Finland, which can be shown in this map: heninen.net/sopimus/fdr1939.jpg
As the map shows, much of Eastern Karelia would have been incorporated to "Soviet Finland". Had the USSR annexed Finland, it would have faced very similar fate as the Baltic stated did in 1940 (mass deportations, massacres of native people by Soviets etc.).
What if all finish soldiers were Simo Häyhä?

Something along the lines of adopting western technologies but not adopting western ideas that prove counter to their thinking. Completely slowing down their modernization and leaving them vulnerable to western demands. They were forced out of their isolation by western demands and not by their own ideals. Meiji restoration came when the forces of the shogunate/anti-westernization was brought down by the imperial/western friendly forces. With no opposition to adopt western ideas they quickly adopted all western ideas including imperialism.

Japanese position varying and is subjected to American position on the reunification matter. America seems more and more pulling back from reunification plan because it virtually impossible mission without American bloodshed . So, wants to stabilize as what its now - two koreas policy. I believe Japan needs to eliminate 52000 Korean commies to make peace with South Koreans like me, who wants to reunify korea

*Republicans won Spanish Civil War
Even so that'd be a hard one. Are you suggesting they won the war after the Marxist-Leninist (Aka Stalinist) coup that happened during the war, or are you talking about before it? Republicans also had Anarcho-Syndicalists fighting as well who didn't like the MLs that much so were they defeated or did they agree to exist side-by-side (which was one of the many agreements between the Republicans before the coup in the event of victory)
The Frankish Empire never fell, it was divided into smaller Frankish Empires through inheritance. Modern France & Austria could both be considered direct successor states.

What if it happened without the alternate history aspect? What Kim Jong Un decided to give up his dictator aspirations and really wanted to focus on his singing career? What if he just called Seoul and said “Hey guys, come get your stuff I’m moving…”
this is perhaps the most alternative alternate history scenario yet!
this is a old 4 part series remade so yeah it's going to be in depth
Hey Cody, I'm a big fan, I love the format, animation and information of your videos, and would love to see one on what would happen if England never colonised India
What if the Sassanid Empire conquered the Byzantines in the 300s and 400s A.D., creating a Zoroastrian eastern Mediterranean instead of a Christian one? Also, what affects would this have on the rise of Islam? Like this if you would like to see it, and Cody, bae, my main man, this would be really interesting and a good turn from all the modern history stuff
Nobody Important I never knew how much I needed this until now
Nobody Important Eventually over thousands of years several Arabs like the Seljuks and Ottomans would rule it.
Nobody Important, Zoroastrianism does not look for converts the way some other religions do, it would be a religious mess with Christians, Muslims, Jews, Zoroastrians, and traditional Pagans.
TheAmazingMan, neither of those groups are Arab

Can you do What if Sweden won the great northern war? I think it'd be really interesting
Civilization yeah. I think it would be interesting to see if that would help Sweden stay a great power or if it would make Russia more isolationist or weaker as a country
What if King Charles XII of Sweden didn't invade Russia and didn't get his ass whooped in Poltava
I mean then Finland could be Sweden's right now. They would have to keep Sveaborg.
They would create Cuckistan or something.
What if the Suez Canal was never built?
then boats have to travel more
What if Einstein did become Israel's President?
this is sooo random and nonsense. I approve.
Muhummad Smith he was offered the position, so it's not random at all.
+Sebastian Hernandez for real? Im from Israel and forgot that xD
Random Stuff hehe
if he accepted the position, well nothing happens. except that israel will have a greater economy and since, there is a smart leader, they can predict invader's paths, and pakistan and israel woudnt have been fighting anymore. would have greater territory -ish, and einstein wouldve lived like 2 months older. or something.
"reunification is a laughable joke" = "I just think Pekka Rinne is too good right now"
What if the European Union was never formed?
Topboxing No Euro crisis.
War in Europe.
probably another war. EU was created to stop war
Nato and UN were created to stop war. EU was a trade agreement at first.
It was kind of both, the principle was that no two nations that were so dependent on one another would go to war
after this I went to play the Millennium Dawn mod on Hearts of Iron IV and started to play South Korea and try to unit the Korea's
That's gay!
I chose North Korea and united the Koreans.
And invaded Vietnam just cause.
not if soviets and chinese guarantee their independence
Cody, This video got me thinking about what would have happened if the USA had supported Ho-Chi Minh? We supported him in WWII against the Japanese, and he was looking for our support at the end of the war. We supported the French because of our commitment to them after what happened in Europe. But what if we supported Ho-Chi Minh in Vietnam?
I thought he was going to say "Because they have sponsored everyone atleast 10 times"
What if Erik the Red was able to establish a stronger trade network between Europeans and the Native Americans?
They would time travel 700 years in the future and become Spanish.
Native Americans will have much higher immunity to the old world's disease and so will have a better chance against colonizers.
They will also have more advanced weapons.
If North Korea won, there'd be no Samsung... Fuck that. I'm sticking to South Korea winning.
So you want a bomb in your pocket.
Why wouldnt there be samsung? South korea never would exist and Samsung would be Korean (not south korean) company. And if allies didnt invade and kill koreans, they might even be international.
You put too much faith in a communist country succeeding.

0:26 "...Korea is so culturally split is so split that reunification is a laughable joke."
Yeah, I remember that exact thing being said about Germany when I was a kid in 1990.
There is no south Korean enclave in North Korea and vice versa meaning no flow of information in between them also Germany didn't had a violent Civil War that killed millions of people
You’re comparing apples to oranges here, the grand concept of reunification is the same but all the details are drastically different

In S.Korea option it would most likely be like today. Everything would play out the same except South Korea's North Korea would be China instead, and S. Korea would be stronger that today simply due to a larger population, additional resources and larger area.

B E T T E R D E A D
T H A N R E D
Well, we can arrange that.
And let's see how long the world's economy lasts without their resources.
And what if this backfired and Russia simply revived the Soviet Union in order to save her people? That wouldn't be of much assistance to you, would it?
Dmitriy Mikhailovich you cant "simply" revive the soviet union, it qould require all previous member states to agree to annexation
I think that with a world war on their doorstep, every former member state would definetely join the Union if it were to be recreated. Besides, it could only be Russia at the beginning
Well well well. This is closer than we thought
Now there is a chance that unification may become reality.
Actually, as said by the korean economist Byung-Yeon KIM in his book "Unveiling the North Korean economy" (2017, Cambridge University Press), despite a huge cost in short/middle-term, "A strong consensus exists among researchers and policy-makers in South Korea.
They agree that the economic benefits accrued from the unification will be larger than the costs associated with it mainly because the benefits will last far longer than the costs will."

i think a unified Korea would be like Germany, Prussia, Russia and Japan condensed into one nation.
*Germany, Prussia* ....Please say that slowly. Yes a unified Korea today is unlikely and would look like an amalgamation, but it was culturally easier in the Korean War.
Can you create a scenario like "What would happened if Saddam Huessain was still in power"
@jaydee040 exactly. that what alternate history is all about: speculation.
A Better Iraq lol

6:16 The South Korean goverment could have fled to Jeju Island, becoming the Taiwan of Korea
This channel has changed so much
Actually there's a more realistic way that the North could have won, and it involves a UN veto. The Soviet's could have easily vetoed any foreign involvement in Korea to help their friend, but since they were boycotting the UN at the time over something else, they lost that chance and the North lost its chance at securing all of Korea.
north korea had a better army than the south they could easily won but america know they wouldnt win so they offered truce
The video summed up:
Basically, there’s just regular Korea..
But more Korea.
Kim Jong Un would have a new face along with Psy
lol
North Korea would have to somehow become a democracy and slowly fix itself before it can ever reunite with South Korea it can’t happen overnight. It’s also possible for the two countries to stay divided but the north could become a free country and allow free travel across the peninsula. South Korea would need to stay unaltered while a new government is set up in the north.
