FRANCIS KERE, ARCHITEKTUR ZWISCHEN KULTUREN

This conference took place in Luxembourg on 19 June 2014, and it was organized by LUCA.   
During his lecture, Francis Kéré - founding partner of Kéré Architecture - presents his philosophy of providing more with less, by fostering innovation and resourcefulness in his practice. By using local materials, local knowledge, and local technologies, he looks to create holistic and sustainable design solutions. For him, it is important to work close to the local communities in all the project phases from design to construction. He believes that architecture can be a vehicle for collective expression and empowerment. 
Francis Kéré founded his office and foundation in Berlin in 2005, after studying architecture at the Technische Universität Berlin. Born in Burkina Faso, he is inspired by a curiosity for the particularities of any given locality and its social tapestry, he has gathered a diverse, agile team at his Berlin-based Kéré Architecture office, to take on projects across four continents. Most prominently, these include his designs for the Burkina Faso National Assembly, the Lycée Schorge Secondary School, the Léo Surgical Clinic & Health Centre and many other projects. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture for his first-ever building.
