  • In this video I assemble an oo scale meat wagon by dapol.
This wagon is based on a British prototype, obviously used for carrying meat.
The kit is surprisingly good. I don't know if it runs well or not... but I hope it does.
It was pretty quick and easy to build and it should be nice to paint.
I will be building a model railway on which these kits will be run... Obviously videos about this will be coming “soon™”
Stick around if you want to see more model railway related videos in the future and be sure to leave any comments, questions or suggestions you might have in the comments section below.

Old airfix range built afew originally kits off eBay for cement wagons .
    Turned out pretty well .

You could remove the pegs on the headstocks (buffer beams) as they were included to restrict the sideways movement of the original Airfix couplings and were not on the real vans.

For such an old kit this went together better than some of the modern ones that I have built. Well done on this video, it was very interesting and fun to watch (like most of your videos).
Many thanks for sharing and have fun,
    Joe

The Dapol kits are still good value especially since they contain metal wheels. The Dapol unpainted range are a mixture of older 1970s mouldings and newer ones from 2000+ and are good value and good models. The Fruit D, Grampus, Milk Tank, rectangular tank and Fruit (Converted cattle wagon) are particularly good in the unpainted range.

Those of us who remember these kits appearing on the market around 1960 will recall their exquisite detail as compared with some of the rubbish available from other makers, especially ready-to-run. It's logical to fit metal wheels - a further refinement would be brass bearings for the pin-point axles. The "cylinder thing" was the reservoir for the automatic vacuum brake and is therefore essential. These vehicles were regarded as coaching stock and so were painted crimson lake and not bauxite (i.e .brown).
Four ventilator hoods replaced the usual one. By the way, they were known as Ventilated Vans not wagons. But congratulations on producing a very nice video - keep up the good work !

Paint the running gear before adding the upper shell. It’s just so much easier.

Cylinder was fitted upside down .
Dome should be facing up when held facing you .

hmmm.. did not expect to see this from you since it doesnt have a gun on it... anyway, it looks rather good considering the tooling is 50 years old. really nice gift idea!! Im he'll love it!
if you want to some nice trains maybe get a german armoured train, or a schwerer gustav railway-gun; I know that theres one available in 1/72.. it is a bit expensive though....

That'll do Herbert, that'll do... This was strangely compelling. Are you getting a OO scale track for the next train video?

The buffers have a tendency to break off in use. I replace the plastic buffers with metal ones.

get a pile of dead body miniatures for the inside, and throw some german writing on the side job done.
