    The M1 Abrams is a third-generation American main battle tank named after General Creighton Abrams and designed by Chrysler Defense. The Leclerc tank is a main battle tank built by GIAT, now Nexter of France. It was named in honour of General Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque, who led the French element of the drive towards Paris while in command of the Free French 2nd Armoured Division in WWII.

    France always start a design with some European allies then quit the project because the others didn’t believe in the French vision. Each time France ends crafting alone its own version. Each time France creates an unmatchable masterpiece. It happened with the Rafale, it happened with the Leclerc.

    The Leclerc was also the first tank in the world to have virtual battlefield for tank commanders with data fusion from the other Leclercs around, and data transmission to command posts. Arguably more of a change than Chobham.
    The Leclerc also has a better FCS than the abrams ( in a competition, it got 20/20 vs 19/20 for Leo2 and 17/20 for the Abrams). The series XXI also dropped the titanium armor modules for depleted uranium armor modules.

    Leclerc was made to shoot while mooving. It had 90% precision of hit on a target mooving at 50km/h while being himself at 50km/h. Thats why it's far better than abrams and it's was of the best tank in the world. Even isaelians said that 1 leclerc could destroyed 4 merkava before being hit....
    Now, only the leopard version 2A7 have similar capacity but still slower (russian t 14 we dont know)

    • @canicheenrage
      @canicheenrage 4 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      From what i read/heard but not reliable, in Greece, on the firing on the move test, best results were: the Abrams got 17 targets out of 20, the Leo 2 19/20, the Leclerc 20/20.
      Could theorically engage an aircraft with its main gun but currently doesn't have adapted fused ammo for it, and boasting capability to hit a target going at 70kph, while going at 50kph in another direction, 95% of the time, at 5 km.
      What i can completely reliably add, though, and which doesn't make the previous elements looking like "fantasy" is that the leclerc just won first place in the NATO "Iron spear" tank firing competition this october in Latvia.

      @@vizender And that my friend is sadly wrong. our army is far from being independent, take for example the replacement of the FAMAS for the HK416 in 2016, we do not manufacture them, we order them from Germany, same goes with ammo, France shut down all ammo productions and now orders from other countries since ages.
      Considering the example i took is the main AR for the French army, that's quite a blow to the "100% independant".
      And there is a lot, lot lot more that we order, as a matter of fact, we rely too much on ordering, instead of producing, which is a strong flaw for the French Army, because in case of a nation wide conflict, we're screwed hard.

    • @leetsy7203
      @leetsy7203 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @MrTherealpad France doesn't manufacture weapons anymore, aside from some hunting rifles (double barrels 12g), we don't produce any rifles meant for the army, any rifles at all anyways.
      And the rifles are a thing, it doesnt change we are 100% dependant from other nations when it comes to ammos, so it's nice to have X amount of rifles, but if you got no ammos for it, they're worthless.

But the Leopard 2A4 (and better) is still an excellent tank - some say the best in class, but I think the Leclerc says otherwise - and, to be perfectly honest, and NATO (and other Allied) tank is an exceptional piece of kit that would almost all overmatch their Russian and Chinese equivalents.

    the Leclerc rates higher than all the other western tanks because it's a more modern design. the m1, leo2, chall2 all come from desings made in the 70ies. Leclerc was perfected in the 90ies. Also, the auto loader makes it superior, whatever anti-auto-loader whiners have to say. Imo the leclerc compares more with the south korean and japanese designs, which largely surpassed western ones.

    • @jpc7118
      @jpc7118 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      and the autoloader is not his most important thing. The leclerc has the best system of firing, can fire running at 40 km/h with the SAME efficiency than if he was fixed on the ground. None of his opponent can actually have the same ratio (96% of targets hit), they are even far from it. The alone to have truly modernised its firing system in thee same way of research is the Leopard 2A7, but german system arrives 20 years after french made it operational (after 10 years of research also)... you don't do the gap of 20 years in few months. especially that the Leclerc has already known 2 operational theaters (Kosovo + Yemen).

    Current generation of depleted uranium is 2.43 times as strong as conventional tank armor, it's not only very dense but very hard combining attributes of both steel and lead making something stronger than tungsten. But Steel's come a long way since Depleted Uranium was added to the Abrams and I'd be interested to see how well more modern steels stack up, with AR500 being more than twice as strong as steel tank armor used in the 1940s for example but that's just AR500 steel- it goes up to AR700 right now... which is also harder than pure tungsten and lighter although be it still fairly heavy.

      Leclerc it is 6rounds/min with autoloader... With AMX 30B, we did 6 in 54", but we were 3 private NCO (sergents d'active) in the turret (I was the "tireur", the chief was an old sergent of my company very experimented and the loader was a sergent transmetteur which had never been in the turret, nothing less normal : he was 1,85 and 100 kg, we did 3 attempts before that stat also, to be honest)... and the ammunition of 105 is way lighter than 120 mm... the commentator with his 12 then 15 rounds/min, made me laughed alot... 15 rounds a minute, that means that the tank fires every 4 seconds ! even fixed on the "pas de tir"... it's harsh to fire efficiently every 10 seconds. Leclerc can do it but it's harsh. then 12 and 15 MDR
      Je pense qu'avec l'AMX 30B2, on aurait pu fairelégèrement mieux que 54" car dans le B, c'est le chef de char qui "ralentit" le tir, puisqu'il devait faire du télémétrage manuel à co-incidence d'image (d'où les deux "oreilles" sur la tourelle du B et pas du B2)... le B2 a un télémètre laser, donc en un dixième de seconde, on a la distance.
