  • We take a complete tour of Captain's House #13 in historic Officer's Row at Fort Hancock on the tip of Sandy Hook, NJ. Gateway National Recreation is on beautiful Sandy Hook, which separates the Atlantic Ocean from Sandy Hook Bay and the Raritan Bay. The views across to New York Harbor and New Your City are incredible. You can see the Verrazano Bridge, the new World Trade Center and the Empire State building too.
Officer's Row was where all the high-ranking military officers resided at Fort Hancock prior to its closing in 1974. Many of these large homes were damaged or flooded by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

We lived at th Weather Bureau for 10 years - 1930-40. I was 3 years old. A fantastic place to grow up! It is so sad to see this. No one can even enter where the civilian enclave used to be. Wonderful memories 'tho.

Our family lived in THIS house, Quarters #13 in about 1963, the year of the hurricane that closed-off Sandy Hook for 8 days. Wow, looking at my home. Thank you!!!
