Been a longtime Souls fan, and just got this game last week because it looked like Monster Hunter. I accidentally went to Bitterblack Isle after the Hydra fight because it was marked on the minimap. So I played through it thinking it was a part of the core game then I began to wonder where are all the Pawn stuff I read and heard about. Now seeing this video explains it all.
FYI, technically you can go to BBI without fighting the Hydra. Its available as soon as you make your pawn, so you only have to defeat the Cyclops and make a pawn then go back to Cassardis and sleep at the Inn until nightfall.
you have an amazing way of describing complex matters without getting lost in the details, really like your videos. i probably watched some of your dark souls challenges half a dozen times, without ever playing the game myself, your narration alone makes it so much better than TV :D
I have the same feelings as you when entering BBI the first time. When I saw what it was like compared to the base game, I though wow what if I just played this part of the game solo? The potential is there, I understand what you mean.
The class/level-up system sounds interesting. It reminds me of Final fantasy Tactics. A very good game, but you need to come with challenges for or it's too easy.
i will 100% watch this if you record more. you've actually officially convinced me to give this game a go, so thank you for that. good work on the videos and keep 'em coming!
I do love all souls games man, I promise me as a hardcore souls games lover, I have to say that I love Dragon's dogma with a even deeper love both games have their own great qualities , & each has a great feature that the other do not posses but if I have to choose 1 world.. to me it will be easier to choose DD now I cannot wait for a new Dragon's dogma cannot wait to see what the next gen hold for this mighty tittle 2 great games were my most memorables games of 2013 1 Is Castlevania mirror of fate from the lords of shadows saga & 2 Dragon's dogma Dark Arisen
+Trey9600 yeah man, all souls games are great, I like more the platforming & combat DDbut now Bloodborne is 1 of my biggest love, watch my channel for full run I also truly hope that 1 day Vegeta bro will start uploading in you tube
He's deleted and only in our memory now. I stream all the time, if you subscribe to my twitch channel I'm pretty sure it sends out a notice anytime I start to stream.
Just dropping in to say I just finished this challenge, it was pretty fun too. The hardest part is getting passable gear to get going. This is definitely one of my proudest gaming achievements. Nice challenge Vageta.
Dude, this is an awesome video. I put over 250 hours in Dark Souls, and I was a little uncertain what to expect when I got Dragon;s Dogma a week ago. However, having just beaten Grigori for the first time last night (Mystic Knight), I am quite pleased with the game and very much plan to take on this challenge soon. Thanks for the idea!
river towards the end during the flashbacks. Amazingly well done. Now that you're streaming on twitch I'll make sure to check your streams out too, thanks for the great videos man.
Hey, Vageta! I'm a huge fan of Dark Souls and Dragons Dogma. So mush so in fact that I got all of the achievements/trophies within the first couple months of each games release. I've pour hours and hours into these games and I, for whatever reason, never thought to do this. I appreciate the idea and I'll get started on this challenge ASAP.
Oh I see, I've never seen it but I read a bit of the manga very briefly. Maybe I'll have to check it out. Anyway man, looking forward to seeing the rest of this series, I think I've watched every let's play/walkthrough/challenge that you have on youtube, I've seen the calamity ring assassin's run of dark souls two or three times and I even got a few of my friends to watch it, I loved the idea you had to put songs during the boss fights and your choices were awesome, especially Sif and humbling
47:23 The sounds of Despair starting right when the door opens. I don't know what kind of timing that was but it sure as hell scared me even though im not playing.
I've had some time to do this and me not being a seasoned DD play found this really easy after about level 20-25 with all the rules intact. It's really fun and I'm going to continue to do this because its fun.
wooo nice, I thought this was just gona be a file dumb from Twitch. Glad I was wrong and bored enough to check it out again. Really appreciate the extra mile with the do over and commentary.
They are temporary buffs and you can stack 4 at a time. Demon's is a magic boost, conquerer's is a physical attack boost, etc.. You can buy them in unlimited quantities quite cheaply in Gran Soren and they make a huge difference in damage output while they last.
You can get them in 1 or 2 chests in the areas beyond the first boss. They can also drop from Eliminators, Mimics, Gorecyclops and a few other large enemies. There are maps on the wiki showing which chests contain the cursed drops so you can farm them easier.
Seems like you may have brought me back to this game. I think it has a lot of potential but they didn't do everything right. Shuffling the monsters on the map would have been SUCH an improvement instead of static spawns.
Been there, done that. Lvl 10 BBI, funny stuff. Tip: When you meet Barroch first time in his house(?) there is a box with 15 throwblasts (they are respawnable), it can help very much with bosses, coz it doing so much damage.
I thought for a minute this was Peeve. You sound a lot like him and you're always talking about your stream. But because of this video, I'm going to the challenge. Looks like fun. :D
Glad you posted this:) I've been a lurker on your streams (mainly cause it's easier to watch on my xbox than computer) so I can't comment in chat:( Also I've missed alot of your streams lately due to you don't come on till 3:30amCT...lol I catch ya on the weekends though. Glad you're enjoying DD! The last killer sesh I watch of yours is when you took on that Pope dude over and over with your Assassin..shit was intense! I never knew what happen though. Following week you were playin a sorcerer...
I just started Dragon's Dogma last weekend, really loving this game and it's combat despite being different from DS. I confess I think DS could learn a few things from DD (character creation and customization for one thing!) though each game does what it does quite well.
I have to tell u man. I owned the original game and played until I got so tired of travelling back and forth without any port crystals that I gave up even before completing. But I see the way you play your mage makes me wanna give it a try again. And I've placed my order for dark arisen (eu version) at ~usd30.
Hey, great video. I've had a lot of trouble getting into Dragon's Dogma, and I think maybe doing Bitterblack Isle first might be an interesting idea. By the way, you can save the game from the Start menu by hitting the Back button, rather than going into the "Save and Quit" menu. It's two or three less prompts, way faster!
really? Thats the answer I've been looking for. The combat system/gameplay mechanics is by far the most important aspect of a game, as far as I'm concerned. I will check it out.
I just started this challenge since i recently got DD: DA (I think it's amazing) and am already getting lucky with some of the drops. The challenge is definitely interesting so far.
I had finished skyrim, dark souls 2, and "dragon's dogma". In my opinion skyrim is good but after finishing 75% of the game's quest it gets kinda boring and nothing to do except if u got mods. So much lore in it. In my opinion dark souls 2 it's very rewarding but the story is confusing, after you finish it that's it and if you like to play it again ng+ up to 7 is the max difficulty or put bonfire ascetic. Dark souls 2 is a very nice game to have especially if you're a hardcore gamer or you just like rpg games it tests your gaming skills, onced your use to dodging, rolling etc... it's really easy to beat the boss's in this game. Dragon's Dogma this game is verry underrated and i highly suggests that you buy and play this game don't just stock it, it's a must have, downside is the world it's a bit small and the travelling system oh my goodness, what a pain even tho it's not much rewarding than dark souls 2. The animation, skills, magic, everything is great in this game, what can i say. Note: If you play and finish dragon's dogma you can challenge offline ur - dragon in cassardis. Buying dragon's dogma: dark arisen will give you an eternal ferrystone, 100k+ rc and more for your loyalty of playing the first one. Ciao. ^^
ive beat dark souls 1 an 2 alot of times all covenants max all armors wepons all boss wepons max out it got boring khow im playing blood born and im almost done all i need is to find all dlc wepons to get last trophy i cant wait for dark souls 3 to burn it all to beat all challenge
+Armando Camacho Haven't played ds 1 yet but i think it's great. Ds 2 i haven't maxed out everything yet and earn all the trophies, cause i got bored of playing ds 2. After i buy a ps4 ds 3 will be on my games to buy. Ciao. :)
If you mean in general, then yes, there is. When launching DD:Dark Arisen for the first time, it will import your character from the original DD and give you an Eternal Ferrystone and 100.000 Rift Crystals. Your level and obtained items, including everything at the inn, will remain.
My understanding is that DD was not designed to have a large DLC like DA easily integrated. Not that I'm defending Capcom, only that it's a legitimate issue when a game is first created whether or not it easy to expand it.
I've done this before in hard mode. I'm going to try it again before playing DD for PC. Though, I have a character I used a bit already. Level 19. I'm doing it with that character because I like that character a lot. Pro Tip: You can kill the giant Seer eyeball monster boss at level 1 with throwblasts gathered at the warrior's respite rest area by having him impale his own eye. And the Bishop and Dragon boss as well. Vandal's Ring helps, two are even better (BBGear lvl 3). Then use Coin Purse of Charity on Daimon out the ass.
Interesting choice of classes. I personally would probably have gone for something with a bit more options in terms of defense, and a Mage pawn with healing. Walking in with a Sorcerer and a Strider still makes sense, in a way - varies up your damage types and gives you tons and tons of utility - but it wouldn't have been my first choice.
I'm an avid dragons dogma player. Level 154 heading to level infinite(200). I started off the game with mage then sorcerer but later on moved over to ranger and assasin because of their skills and powers as well as for their prowess in boss fighting.
The Seeker(giant eyeball) is really scary looking but sort of a pushover. Try jumping on his eyeball and stabbing the hell out of it. Be sure to have blindness cures and plenty of stamina and health potions. Eventually he'll summon four little tentacles on the ground and they'll start charging some sort of shield. Make sure you kill those four worm things as fast as possible. As for that gorecyclops prisoner, don't mess with him until you're like level 100 lol. He'll wreck you.
What vocation are you? Tip for Elder Ogres is wait until they either drop kick you or run past you and just go ham on them while they're distracted. Gorecyclopes are a bit hard no matter what. They're weak to ice and their left foot can be attacked for full damage.
I'm actually going to make a Magick Archer on hard and try Bitterblack. I'm not necessarily going to follow all of the rules of your challenge but I think playing on hard will in a way make up for that. :) That and the fact that I always play without pawns for that one augment that boosts damage when solo.
in no other game you fight a griffin and get carried away by it mid-combat, fall a long way down, still survive but are now in a forest far away from the next safe city and the sun is alread setting. you fight yourself through the dark thicket for 2 in-game-hours in the approximately right direction in which the nearest city should be lying ahead and just about when you already can see the silhouette of the city on the horizon a manticore attacks and rips you to shreds
it is harder because it is way more dependent on character level than on skill. If you don't have enough strength or magic you can't hurt higher level enemies, so it's pretty much impossible to do a low level run (unless you fight with throwblasts).
about the cursed gear if you have an hybird vocation let's say magick archer it would be harder to get an weapon than a strider or mage...so its better to have one color vocation?
People complained that Dragon's Dogma was too easy? o_O I mean, sure, the vanilla last boss (before the game enters it's "second half") was quite easy, but there were times where packs of monsters would just DESTROY me and my party... eh, well maybe im just bad ahaha. It's a great game though, and i'd love to be able to try BBI one of these days
...And then stripped your armor and weapons, and punched out all of the main game bosses? :p Hard mode doesn't even make the dragon hard, unless you count the parts with the stupid fixed camera. >_>
Thanks, I'll probably give it a miss for the time being in that case. I've not got the time or patience for the problems I've heard about with travelling in this one.
I actually bought this game about a week ago and I've been playing it non-stop since. I actually didn't start BBI until level 41 but I've already beaten everything BBI has to offer on my assassin. Not much can stand up to 4100 Strength bonus BEFORE pariapts now can it? Unfortunately getting high-level gear in BBI is way too easy. You can just dash through all of the enemies and farm chests that have Bitterblack Weapon/Armor/Gear loots. Same can be said for rift crystals.
Wow, I never even use blast arrows and the periapts! I really need to try this 'Dark Arisen' stuff, I want to learn about the cursed gear and things! I have to say though, I don't agree that this game can be as hard as Dark Souls: you can buy stacks of cheap food and spam eat it, as well as the fact that you can run around enemies, and there are environmental objects that can kill enemies very easily.
I played a little big of Dogma after hundreds of hours on DkS but ended up putting it down before I was deep into it. You've made me want to go back and play again! Is there any chance in a playthrough of this?
This was for the story quest right...? The Eye thing is immortal the 1st time you go down there. That area is the 2nd part of the game Vegeta's talking about in the video and fully accessible after you beat the story.
Started this challenge last night. Hopefully I haven't missed any important info considering I haven't watched this whole video (haven't seen Bitterblack for myself yet so don't wanna ruin it). But I'm a fighter, my pawn is a mage, and together we shall conquer Bitterblack Isle! hehe
Hmm this challenge is a bit weird. It's not as balanced as Dark Souls and there's a weird AR/DR thing going on(you need to have a high enough attack to deal damage to certain monsters, you can cheese it by doing status effect damage and enemies will deal major damage if you're below a certain defense threshold,). Which feels weird, as you poke enemies with needles basically until you reach that threshold, but when you do, you're picking them off easily. That and the final treck to Daimon is kinda ridiculous, far worse than anything I've encountered in DS. A long ass running trip with Death one-shotting my pwns with rift stones costing craptons to repair(which is annoying as you'll need them to purify high level gear and weapons) and high level mobs everywhere till then. If you know the route it's fine for the most part, but at points it just feels cheap.. Certain classes also get the short end of the stick while other classes will get through it fairly easily. Still more fun than the base game though. I defeated Daimon and the second run through is has higher level mobs, but I'm at a much higher level and can kill things with ease.
I've got one question though Vegeta. Did you do attempt a new game playthrough on hard mode? I did so, the second time around, and I can say the only reason I got through is because of my knowledge of the game. I feel that the pre-game, post-game and BitterBlack are all very challenging on hard mode, even a level 190+. Another thing to note is that BitterBlack has a Post Game+++.
Assasin vocation, 3 star dragons vein, clout and all the other str perks, have been leveling as an assassin for 30 levels or so, champions belt and some other str boosting items and i have about 2500 str all up. Is that bad or should I just take peripiats. I never seem to use them.
I was thinking of buying this game anyway, especially as I've heard the expansion fixes a couple of the flaws in the standalone version. Adds more fast travel, stuff like that.
I'm trying this again after giving up on it over the summer. Except this time I went in to Bitterblack naked and I don't even have my pawn with me. I'm taking a shot at this solo and blind. Well..blind after I pass the point I gave up on last time.
still doing this. love this game still playing it after 3 years still one the best games to date.
I.m stil playing now lol
gamergirl 420 even now it’s one of the better ones
I am still playing after 7 years
ayy
Man, if you happen to read this i really miss your videos and streams, itd be nice to hear from you again!
Beating this as a fighter is hands down one of the most satisfying experiences i've ever had in a game.
Wow, that's actually super funny, holy crap.
If you’re telling me you ran through BBI in it’s completion with your character that’s only made it as far as the hydra, you are 20000% full of it
FYI, technically you can go to BBI without fighting the Hydra. Its available as soon as you make your pawn, so you only have to defeat the Cyclops and make a pawn then go back to Cassardis and sleep at the Inn until nightfall.
you have an amazing way of describing complex matters without getting lost in the details, really like your videos. i probably watched some of your dark souls challenges half a dozen times, without ever playing the game myself, your narration alone makes it so much better than TV :D
will be hype to see what the bitterblack isle equivalent will be in Dragon's Dogma 2... (hell, even the Everfall too)
I have the same feelings as you when entering BBI the first time. When I saw what it was like compared to the base game, I though wow what if I just played this part of the game solo? The potential is there, I understand what you mean.
lvl 16 in bitterblack? that is a great challenge
My streams that get converted to youtube videos will all have commentary, though it won't be as educational.
I do love all souls games man, I promise
me as a hardcore souls games lover, I have to say that I love Dragon's dogma with a even deeper love
both games have their own great qualities , & each has a great feature that the other do not posses
but if I have to choose 1 world..
to me it will be easier to choose DD
now I cannot wait for a new Dragon's dogma
cannot wait to see what the next gen hold for this mighty tittle
2 great games were my most memorables games of 2013
1 Is Castlevania mirror of fate from the lords of shadows saga
& 2 Dragon's dogma Dark Arisen
+Trey9600 yeah man, all souls games are great, I like more the platforming & combat DDbut now Bloodborne is 1 of my biggest love, watch my channel for full run I also truly hope that 1 day Vegeta bro will start uploading in you tube

river towards the end during the flashbacks. Amazingly well done. Now that you're streaming on twitch I'll make sure to check your streams out too, thanks for the great videos man.
I did this when BBI first came out on the PS3 years ago.
Oh, the frustration... And the yet sweet joy when it was completed

I found the best part of dragons dogma to be the thought that it might get fun at some point, and after 15 hours, that's when it becomes a bit much.
And now doing this is more or less considered baseline experience. Man how time changes things

really strong description of dragons dogma!
I just started this challenge since i recently got DD: DA (I think it's amazing) and am already getting lucky with some of the drops. The challenge is definitely interesting so far.
Is it possible to do this challenge with any class or build?
I've already done the challenge and played through the main game as an assassin. I wanted to do a completely different type of playstyle.

+Doomknight1924 Healing pawn in BBI makes little sense unfortunately. Found that out the hard way. Just stock up on curatives and bring the damage.
I need to get around to this game. Dark Arisen apparently fixed all of the issues of the original game and had a shit ton of extra content.
Another waifu-tier character vageta.
You exceed my expectations.
Ah! The music in Dark Arisen is such a huge improvement over the original's soundtrack.
Fucking spam the throwblasts and you're good to go up to Daimon

in no other game you fight a griffin and get carried away by it mid-combat, fall a long way down, still survive but are now in a forest far away from the next safe city and the sun is alread setting. you fight yourself through the dark thicket for 2 in-game-hours in the approximately right direction in which the nearest city should be lying ahead and just about when you already can see the silhouette of the city on the horizon a manticore attacks and rips you to shreds
There were so many times where I wanted a true coop system cause the sis could be a bit frustrating but I realized it might have been for the best...
This game is great. Second only to dark souls for best RPG of 360/ps3 era. Can't wait for the sequel.
Yeah, I checked it out. It's like Prepare to Die Edition. Thanks for the response!
you just got me to buy this game Vageta :)
can`t wait to play it :)
Honestly I think Dark Arisen even at level 100 is significantly harder than Souls.
it is harder because it is way more dependent on character level than on skill. If you don't have enough strength or magic you can't hurt higher level enemies, so it's pretty much impossible to do a low level run (unless you fight with throwblasts).
and throwblasts are kinda OP in huge amounts...
Crystal Iruna Beautiful Sin their power gets scaled depending on your level
this challenge is hard. im level thirty now. my pawns constantly taking a beating. i casually run from death. for now. haha this was a great idea.
about the cursed gear if you have an hybird vocation let's say magick archer it would be harder to get an weapon than a strider or mage...so its better to have one color vocation?
Hope you do more of these!
Going to end up with Magic Archer, perhaps? Those are a lot of fun for BBI.
alright ive watched 14 mins in i dont wanna watch anymore cause i wanna buy this game and play it w/o seeing u go through this area
I get souls nostalgia doing solo playthroughs all the time. That is until I eat 100 herbs in a pause screen lol.
Made a playlist of this whole run if anyone wants to watch it all

soon as i stepped into bitterblack isle as a level 16 maybe level 20, i stayed there until i beat it. think i exited at 96
...And then stripped your armor and weapons, and punched out all of the main game bosses? :p
Hard mode doesn't even make the dragon hard, unless you count the parts with the stupid fixed camera.
They've added a ferrystone that can be used infinitely so that should cut down on the annoyance of travel.
But I'm a fighter, my pawn is a mage, and together we shall conquer Bitterblack Isle! hehe
Just picked up this game, gonna play it after i finished The Last of Us. looks sweet
Just an FYI, Assasins sounds like a nice class (Bows swords daggers), I beat the game twice using it, but the Ranger is literally the most op class...
This challenge seems more like a pain in the ass than fun.
I never seem to use them.
question, was there a portcrystal in the first everfall exploration in regular DD?
I agree with you, im dissapointed with the number of people hating the game.
I was thinking of buying this game anyway, especially as I've heard the expansion fixes a couple of the flaws in the standalone version. Adds more fast travel, stuff like that.
Dark Souls introduced me to Dragons Dogma aswell in a way.
I can't even imagine trying to fight either form of Daimon at low level
I'm trying this again after giving up on it over the summer. Except this time I went in to Bitterblack naked and I don't even have my pawn with me. I'm taking a shot at this solo and blind. Well..blind after I pass the point I gave up on last time.
DA is the same game just with a new area full of new dungeons and whatnot.
Basically it's the base game with an expansion pack.
