Thanks for asking. 😃 I really enjoyed putting this video together because my dear late grandfather Artie Malvin is the lead vocalist and vocal conductor on the record. Camera is Canon 80D. Audio is direct into the Mic jack of camera, from the Tape Out of my regular phonograph amp, but passing through a small electronic device I constructed to drop line level voltages (0.3-2V) to microphone voltages (5-50mV). This worked well for me, but another way to do it would be to record video and audio with separate devices, and synchronize recordings in post-processing. Added a color cast and some faux film flecks in post to make it feel a little more old timey. The other fun part was constructing the scene, with the fireplace, the candle, the little cow, and the Californian toyon berries. I also had to machine that spindle for the Dual turntable from an old inkjet printer carriage shaft, but that's another story... Hope this helped a bit!

Ahhhh, Christmas 1956 - when every red-blooded American boy dreamed of getting a Lionel electric train from Santa. All three of my older brothers got one, but not me. I am now 66, and - I'M STILL WAITING SANTA!!!!!
This is my favorite Christmas carol album! Beautifully re-mastered! My mother bought it at Montgomery Ward, Baton Rouge, in December 1958; I still have it. Love that theatre organ; Sy Mann was a virtuoso. And their rendition of Jingle Bells is excitement on steroids! Note: the words of the carols were printed on back of original album cover. Sy mann's organ arrangements are beautiful. Artie Malvin, director/arranger for the Malvin Carolers, was musical director for the Carol Burnette Show in the 1970 's.

Great musical art never goes out of fashion, nor does it age! I'm a month shy of 69, and being a good boy so that maybe Santa will bring me that electric train I always wanted! (A Steinway grand piano would be nice, too.)

It's bracing to think that my grandfather Artie was very near my current age when he recorded this in 1956. His deep love for music was a throughline of his widely varied career, singing, composing, and conducting for live performance (Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band for the war effort overseas), radio, records, theater, and television.

And I will add that there ARE many great recordings of Christmas music. A few others at the top of my list are Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, the choirs of Pete King, Norman Luboff, and Walter Schumann. As mentioned a few years ago, great music does not age -- it just gets better. I was introduced to The Malvin Carolers when I was five, and now I am two weeks shy of 70! I Love the vintage Christmas carols!! 😄🤗 I remember hearing these songs while shopping at Woolworth store & the 5 & dime stores where you could take $5.00 & buy things like a yo-yo, harmonica, marbles, small baby doll , coloring books , crayons & have enough to purchase a candy cane.
Woolworth was a big part of Christmas. Lovely store everything about it even the characters who worked there lol 😂 just fitting in nicely . Children paradise with toys & sweets .
What a beautiful collection of christmas carols of old. Nowadays, christmas carols are distorted, with all kinds of reggae, dub, pop melodies injected into them. I love these vintage carols. I am 26 years old and it is these kinds of blessed christmas carols I love. And I sing and play christmas carols throughout the year. In my country of trinidad, we have the 100 day count down to christmas, and many of us already have our christmas lights on our windows.

Ii just do the Religious side now also volunteering at homeless shelters but the sparkle of Christmas shopping has been taken away from us . Bring back the Magical atmosphere of Christmas

I have commented on this tag before, but one more observation. The choral blend of the voices, accompanied by the magnificent organ of Sy Mann, is astounding. The balance is perfect. Such dedication to professional integrity is rare to find nowadays. A blessed Hanukkah and Christmas!
Thanks for returning to the video! Indeed, my grandfather Artie Malvin was born to an immigrant family in NYC, and came up in more of the Hannukah tradition than the Christmas one. But his dedication and love for the craft of music was quite complete, and I have no doubt he enjoyed making this record as much as any other. I really appreciate your kind assessment, as I return again to remember my "Popi" through his records. (I've been able to collect some others of his vinyl output, but most of them are already reproduced here on TH-cam.) Music production really did require a special level of care in those days, when live performance takes were recorded to tape with hardly the array of editing and synthesizing options available today. I am VERY KEENLY aware of how primitive (in terms of 2023) the recording technology was in 1956/1957. The artist(s) had one, or maybe two chances to put it all down on the recording device. There was very little (if any) re-dubbing to fix mistakes. The technology did not exist. Anyway ... I find this record album one of the best ever! I NEVER tire of hearing it, and probably never will! Andy thank you for uploading this album. I have the exact same one but it is slightly scratchy and over the years. I love the little kids on the cover. The best track is IMO We Three King of Orient Are when Sy plays the bells on the organ. I would like to buy another copy of this album.
