Thank you for this. I would love to hear Dr. Schindler also speak of von Balthasar’s “content” as he spoke this time about “style”.

Thank you very much, Dr. Schindler. This was one of the most clarifying lectures I have watched about this monumental theological work. I have tried to translate the Balthasar's books here in Brazil, and, thank God, some have already been published. But it has been a very lonely enterprise, since it seems the theological study here is much confusing -- as an example, I am not a theology student or professor (actually, I am a musician at the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra), and it has come to me this task of translating this complex but fascinating theological work. I was caught up by the title of one of his books, Die Wahrheit its symphonisch (Truth is symphonic) -- God has his own ways -- and this became the first book by him published here in Brazil, together with Mary for Today and Life Out of Death) I would like to get in touch with people there in the U.S. who also love Balthasar's and Adrienne von Speyr's work. Next month I will travel to Europe with the orchestra, and I will have the chance to meet again my friends of Community of St. John, in Basel and Freiburg. If anyone gets interested, be welcome to send an e-mail: neyvc64@gmail.com

Just reading through the comments, I would make the observation that Dr Schindler explains how to approach von Balthasaar's thought in toto in this lecture - not particular elements or fragments of it. The lecture is very helpful because von Balthasaar was such a prolific polymath that it is important to be oriented, to obtain a reference point, if you are to have the best chance of grasping his vision.

yes, completely agree. But I can suggest his book on prayer, Das Betrachtende Gebet (I don't know the title in English), as a good first contact with his thought. If I am not wrong, he himself suggested this in an interview.

13:43 Strange thing to say about von Balthasar, who danced around about Christ words about hell and damnation.

I'm pretty sure the humanity of Jesus would also hope that all would be saved...indeed it would be a very strange hope to hope otherwise!

@@andyquickdraw1411 You mean this Christ that said that in the end of times He will curse people into lake of fire, where worm won't die? I don't want to be to harsh too you, but it seems that people that hope for salvation of all don't care about Gospels too much.

Schindler is wonderful, but this talk tells us near nothing about v. B.

Von Balthazar’s teachings are based on the mystic he promoted Adrienne Von speyr and especially on her version of the decent into Hell by Jesus which is contrary to the council of Trent which says Jesus descended into the paradise of the bosom of Abraham the hell of waiting, and Bishop challenor wrote on this too, St. John of the cross warned of trusting in mysticism.
