I'd say go with the first game if you were mainly doing single player. First game has a story mode and survival mode. You have to unlock many of the characters through playing the game. I know some people don't like that, I personally do. There's a glitch however that may prevent you from unlocking Akuma Shogun and Kinnikuman Soldier. I wasn't able to get them. Another advantage is the price difference.
