I’m a 57 year old woman and I used sodium hypo. I was dressed like something for breaking bad in my PPE which cost 12 quid for the two of us. 1:4 ratio. Less noise, less damage, less water. Quite easy. Worked with husband. Used snow shovel to protect lawn. Strict caution though on using as it burns and damages. It’s brilliant stuff no more need for blokes wreaking the patio or drive. Made liquid up in a bucket and brushed in. Quite therapeutic.

Only difference was I used a pressure washer to rinse it down afterwards and "walk" the crap into an area for disposal. One interesting thing I learnt from this video was that once it had reached its expiry date it only degrades to 10% and is still usable. That's great news as I have around ten litres left over from last year. Thanks. Hope that sneeze wasn't covid!

Yes it can burn the plants. The trick is to literally soak the edges, grass plants etc to saturation with water prior to starting. That way the plants literally stop drinking for a while and as the peroxide is inactive after about 15 mins it prevents the plants consuming the harmful parts.

You can but I would use it in weaker dilutions. The key to tarmac is a stiff brush and elbow grease. Always best to clean tarmac after a hot couple of days in summer when the moss is dried out and brushes off more easily.
excellent suggestion. Although this is easy solution but everyone seems to try to sell pressure washer. is it due to Hypo being unsafe or they just want to sell an expensive pressure washer?
Of course they want to sell you an expensive power washer, that's their job! :) Yes Hypo can be dangerous if you are not cautious and follow the instructions properly.
As long as the grass is thoroughly soaked (clean water) prior to application of Hypo it will be fine as long as you also soak the grass again immediately after application.
Can too strong a mixture of sodium hypochlorite damage paving? In my case Indian sandstone - I been mixing 1 part 15% with 4 parts sometimes 3 parts water.
Can I spray Hypochlorite with the detergent hose in the pressure washer? I have a petrol pressure washer that has a little sucking hose to feed from a bucket, the PW also has a sprinkle tip to work as a normal hose.
You can BUT the hypo is harsh on the internals of your machine so be sure to run a good 20 or 30 liters of clean water through it AS SOON as you are done.
Spray through a 2 gallon pump sprayer. You will be able to control your overspray somewhat better. Use a course spray. The wind will carry a fine spray where you don’t need or don’t want. And he is correct, wet doesn’t all foliage in the area before spraying and after. Also basic Personal Protective Equipment is more than a good idea.
Like anything, if used incorrectly it will do damage. If you are using it around grass or foliage pre soak the foliage thoroughly, this will prevent the grasses from soaking up more liquid, they wont absorb more than they can handle. Then apply Hypo, hypo will only remain active for about 20 mins before breaking down far enough that it can be rinsed off. Any real power washer (not the Karchers or Black and Deckers you use to wash the car type but commercial grade power washers can destroy the grass a hell of a lot faster than Hypo can. It's all about correct usage regardless of the tool.
