  • Located on the 5th floor of a Parisian revolution era building, the 42sqm 7 MCH apartment was completely transformed by studiobravo to take full advantage of a beautiful view of the city, and improve it’s fit for the owners lifestyle. Relocating the bedroom into the former kitchen allowed the home to be opened up, divided only by the central bathroom. Its unique illuminated glass wall allows light to filter through the bathroom into the bedroom, where a wash of blue paint fills the space and separates it from the living areas. Throughout the home contrasting black and white tiling further segment spaces without the need for partitioning walls. In a city like Paris making small apartments like 7 MCH comfortable, livable spaces will play an important role in ensuring home ownership is accessible into the future.

    A very creative way to connect the living room to the bedroom and bathroom through the box. Love it! Overall I found this apartment interesting - with a comfortable bedroom positioning, and a bathroom as a focal point etc. At the same time I believe the strongest sides are the weakest ones in terms of practicality. Especially the bathroom - if I am thinking about everyday usage - an acoustic side, privacy (not mention situations someone like friends or relatives are staying over), glass getting dirty quickly (and constant need of cleaning it up to keep it visually pleasant) comes to my mind. I got a bit of a luxury hotel vibes with this one. The kitchen/living space although nice - may be more comfortable in terms of seating area etc. (but I guess it met the owners expectation perfectly). Lastly I found positioning of some of kitchen appliances not-functional (especially fridge doors and a microwave cabinet). With all that being said still a big kudos to the designer! Props for unconventional thinking and a very esthetically pleasant and cohesive space (and I love his sweater btw ;) A completely side note - 40 plus square meters ap. in the centre of Paris is anything but small. However I am very happy this one has been included here :) Thank you for sharing!

      This bathroom is nothing compared to the "open style bathrooms" that were in vogue some years back. I totally dig this bathroom space and understand that it was n line with the client's wishes. At the end of the day client is king and whatever it is they decide has to happen. The talent of the architect is that he/she uses those strict requirement guidelines and still manages to create magic while maintaining optimisation of space !

      I do believe guest accomodation is not any sort of priority for the people who live there. There is no guest bed and only room for brief entertainment in form of a dinner etc. The bathroom being the way it is is an absolute non-issue.

    • @Kimeesunshine
      @Kimeesunshine 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      As other have pointed out, I don't think that couple were thinking of having guest stay over. And as for the glass getting dirty, I believe that if they can buy an appartement next to the place de l'Opéra they can pay someone to clean their appartement

    I find the layout interesting, and particularly the kitchen. Having the bathroom a focal point-it’s the elephant in the room that the whole apartment is built around-I find odd. The living space seems very uncomfortable; there’s room for a “real” sofa and larger dining table and chairs, so why not? Finally, the irregular angles-the kitchen niche, the bathroom framing-are too funky (“ooh look at me I’m cool”). I’d rather see some detailing more sympathetic to the building’s architecture.

    • @CK1000ism
      @CK1000ism 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think some of these apartments have weird little niches. They don't add them so are looking for ways to make them seem like accents. They also have to work around strange poles or bracing. HIgher up apartments where the roof is starting to cut in create more of these. Not sure what the blank space was like but imagine they did have those to deal with.

      While I like the design overall, I find the built-in bench an odd choice, would rather go for a nice sofa and the dining situation more in the direction where the kitchen is or use the moveable island instead. The bathroom takes up a lot of room, for only containing a sink and a shower, could've spared a few cm, for the living/kitchen room. I like the toilet situation, the kitchen, bedroom. That all being said, I am not the one who has to live there.

      Well... it's will depend of the in initial state of the appartement when the owner buy it ( Old appartement without any renovation are cheaper than other more modern. ), but I would say probably something like between 350 000 and 450 000 euro ( It can be more if you search in specific arrondissement or specific architecture, like the famous Hausmanian building. )... It's pretty expensive, especially when you compare with other city in France ( In Rouen for exemple, you can find flat with the same surface for less than 120 000 euro if you search in some area. ) but Paris is an expensive city ^^;.

    I couldn't live with the uncomfortable lounge. Comfort at home is paramount to me, since a lot of my day is spent in an office chair or on my feet. I would prioritise a good couch over a dining space, since you can get drop leaf tables etc., that work well in small spaces. I see a lot of people really like this apartment. I like aspects of it, particularly the balcony and entry way, but personally wouldn't have had the bathroom there (which is the bit everybody else likes), I'd have redesigned the bedroom/bathroom/wardrobe space so the bathroom was in the wardrobe area. I find the details really genius.. I think French are one of the best designers out there. The light box, creating intimacy with the blue paint, the wardrobe with the laundry, the tiles carrying into the kitchen, french door to the bedroom.
    For me personally the only thing I'd change is the seating area, because these are never as comfy as a real sofa.

    Props to the designer. They really incorporated client's wishes with ingenious solutions and created functional space that feels bigger than it actually is. You need to remember that you may not like certain colours or furniture, but that is your personal opinion, designer works based on client's wishes and this is great example of a job well done.

    Loved it, the blue majorelle of the room gives it a « marrakech vibes » and the contrast with the bathroom/wc is amazing. However, not sure about the toilet located inside the room. If the client is receiving guests or family over, they will have to enter the room to get to the wc. The kitchen is great, I would have maybe just add more assise in that nice spacious living room. Kudos to the designer 🙌🏼👍🏽

    I have to admit, at the start of the video I was unimpressed with how the designer managed to make the living room so sparse and uninviting but that was before the brilliance of the rest of the interior was revealed to me. The bedroom's deep rich colour was transportive. Juxtaposed against the black black outlined square tiles in the bathroom made the private spaces in this apartment feel quirky, artsy and so personable. I began to realise the genius when the secret bathroom was releaved in the cave like recess in the clean open bathroom- despite its tiny footprint, it felt like the darkness was. just hiding the true enormity of the space. I thought the designer ran out of tricks which was then he shocked me for the final time-transforming the shower into a light feature that emitted a soft illuminous glow. What a rollercoaster! I loved it. Im about to watch it again!

    Love your channel. The apartments is a great balance between tiny living, minimalism, simplicity, and high quality livable design, not magazine hypothetical living. Could you include, and although more work, possibly a second channel, going into a bit more detail on the hidden logistics of the apartment builds (electrical channels, ventilation, sound dampening, heating/cooling etc)?

    Very interesting usage of space here. I love how the wardrobe, bedroom, toilet all wedge together and is able to cross over from one another, & has help to amplify a larger living space. That Blue Klein paint contrasting against the wood finishing with the natural sunlight has created a abstract surrealism art on it's own. Very interesting cosy ambience in there. That geometrical fold down desk is brilliant. 6:18 you know you will be taken into a new perspective with tiles & lines. And that tiles design is continuously interestingly used in the recessed walls in the living and kitchen subtly. That Pink pillow, Pink nylon string chair, Pink pot & 1/8 painted Pink balcony railing gave a element of surprise. Simple but yet complicated... Very detailed designer Thomas Pellerin.

    There are some elements of this apartment that I personally don't like and aren't to my taste but the genius and success of this apartment for me are that I feel I could move in straight away. Some apartments on this channel just seem unlivable day-to-day but this has; wardrobe space - particularly tall hanging space, an actual washing machine with space to keep laundry detergent and cleaning products, room for books, and a proper kitchen. The architect has done a fantastic job!

    Love the aesthetics of this apartment - the use of geometry, tiles, vibrant blue in bedroom (a perfect example of why we needn't be afraid of darker/more saturated hues). The mounted seating is inspired and a thing of beauty. I appreciate the creative and efficient use of space in the bedroom and kitchen. While I appreciate the efforts towards minimalism, there seemed to be lost creative opportunities and wasted space in the living area. Maybe I would understand if more was presented on decisions for that room? It would be great to understand choices made (e.g., for placement of the plants).

The plants were thought to be associated with an armchair and thus create an island which closes the living room space without cutting the room brutally.
