My long-time college girlfriend introduced me to this song and this CD in the summer of 1997 when we were going through a rough patch. It said what she needed to say to me. Our relationship spectacularly imploded the following summer, and we're both happily married with families of our own these days. Like nearly everything from that time of my life, she is far in the past, but this song remains with me always. "10¢ Wings" is one of my favorite albums of all time, and every time I have heard (or covered) this song, it takes me right back to that summer.
Not sure if you'll ever see this (Jonatha Brooke), and side note: I was going to leave this under the video for the appropriate song but the comments are turned off unfortunately.. I just wanted to tell you that I found something incredibly special about your music many years ago.. let me explain why: I can't say that I know all of your music (or most of it for that matter) - I can't even consider myself a proper "fan," but you might find this interesting.. Back when I was in High School (early 2000's) my parents were watching something on TV, I don't remember the program, but you performed a live version of Better After All with another woman on piano. I was immediately captivated by multiple things about that song (I won't bore everyone with my music nerd analysis here). Here's what's amazing to me though - ever since that day, I remember your name and the name of that song, and still to this day I search / listen to that song occasionally and it takes me to a place that I can't explain. I've been in tons of bands of various genres and still listen to tons of music - I often forget / re-discover artists that I've listened to throughout the years, but "Jonatha Brook - Better After All," I never forgot after watching / listening to it one time, by accident, roughly 2 decades ago. THAT is special. I just wanted you to know that.
An understandable reaction. Jonatha has one of the best ears for harmony, arrangement, and song construction in pop music, and the band on this DVD really brings out the potential melodies and arrangements in her songs. My mom is a big fan too.
Honored and grateful that you responded. Thank you! If I could get lucky a second time, do you by any chance know which performance I was referring to? It was just you and another woman playing piano / singing harmonies. I've been trying to find it all over the internet but I can't even remember what channel it was on. Maybe PBS? Or.. I'm not sure. I'd just love to see that moment again. @@jonathabrooke
I am new to her music, and I discovered her from a David Sanborn session which was stellar, and now I cannot find that again. However, Jonatha, you have a new fan. I am truly enjoying discovering your music. It is very moving.
@@dmljones2550 I have looked and couldn't find it anywhere, so i think it was taken down for some reason. if you have a link for it, please send along. cheers!
i Love it Jonatha-I'm sorry I missed your concert at The World Café in Philly on October 1st.. I tested positive for COVID on September 30th. I'm still not well-I continue getting respiratory and fever symptom from it -Brian Birch-Trenton N.J. So sad that I missed you

Look in TH-cam under Sanborn Sessions. I’m in the same book as you. A lyricist as well.
