As always, a fantastic lesson! Now, as a Spaniard, perhaps I should mention that the tune was written by the Spanish musician Ernesto Lecuona (1896-1963), as part of his Andalusian Suite. Lecuona was known as the "Cuban Gershwin". Wait a minute, didn't I say he was Spanish? Is it not true that he was Cuban by birth? Well, technically you could say he was both... At the time Lecuona was born, Cuba was still a province of Spain. And Lecuona later in life relocated to Spain, where he died a year before the Trashmen recorded their surf version.

It is precisely songs like these that made me begin my journey of learning how to play guitar. 60 years later, still playing and learning. Chantays, Verntures, Beach Boys, Duane Eddy.
Fabulous lesson, but you forgot possibly the most important historical note about Malagueña: it was the first song that Keith Richards learn to play on guitar. His grandfather taught it to him when he was a lad and he would play it throughout his life talismanically at important moments. He played it for his mother on her deathbed. He talks about Malagueña so lovingly in his autobiography, Life, which is a particularly fantastic listen in audiobook form. I’m brushing up on all my Stones literature in advance of seeing them in a couple weeks here in LA. The history of The Stones is a fantastic prism through which to witness the second half of the last century and the first quarter of this one. They truly signed that contract at the crossroads.
This was one of Roy Clark's signature songs he would play on the USA TV show Hee-Haw and once as a guest on The Odd Couple. I like this surf rendition, great to see you. You are the Surf Master on that Jazz Master!
Looks like the Surfy Bear comes first in the chain, before the overdrive. Really interesting for nailing that surf sound. Brilliant vid ! Thanks for sharing.
hola Adrián me encanta lo que enseñas con la guitarra, quisiera saber donde encuentro la pista de esta canción y poder practicar, de antemano muchas gracias, saludos
Hi Ade. Do you reckon you could do a ‘how to play to a backing track’ tutorial? I’ve only ever really noodled or played to a song. I know the chords/scales etc, but the one time I jammed with a band I got lost and couldn’t find where to place my playing, I think this would help me.
Nice work down there at the 12 👍 I always get stuck there..too many notes or wrong notes, fudging it (lack of discipline) You should do a dedicated vid on how not to fudge that stuff😂 at the 12th
Ma La Hayn Yuh, not Mole Uh Gay Nuh ...or whatever you said. Malagueña Salerosa - also known as La Malagueña - is a well-known Son Huasteco or Huapango song from Mexico, which has been covered more than 200 times by recording artists. It's a Mexican Standard. Not Surf Rock.

I bet Roy Clark made more money with it 😀
@@JohnA000... too bad you mix information and culture with money
@@informaticalasvegas1950 but I didn't mix it, society mixed it, I just observed it.
Ernesto's will stipulates his remains return to Cuba - his real home - after a regime change. He may have a long wait still..

Oh man, I only got 58 years in ☹️
Getting into surf guitar myself
One of the few channels doing surf music, thank you 🙏
We should listen to more surf rock. Let's go
Los Straight Jackets.
@@itheuserfirst3186Great musicians, great tunes, and a great sense of humor!
Adrian , you have impeccable taste in music ,
Very high level. One of the all time classics that I listen to twice per month since about 1965. You are a smooothy dude!
Thanks!
Shout out for the Astronauts, from my current home of Boulder, Colorado. Cheers! 🍻
You’re my hero of the day ! I spent so much time playing tunes from that album ! Dead Kennedys, John McGeoch and now the Trashmen, you’re the best !
Add the Stooges and the Cramps, Birthday Party....
He's got impeccable taste!
Happy Friday! I will be learning this song over the weekend! Love these videos!

One of your absolute best - exquisite playing and tone!! More surf, please.
Perfect timing! I was just thinking - I need to learn this version!
Awesome.
I also love the Trashwomen's version which is messier and all dialed up to 11.
Fantastic job. Sounds killer.
This is why I love your channel. Cheers!
Yes! Thanks for putting this lesson together. Always found this tune tricky.

Great Surf tone. Thank you for the lesson.
Brilliant as always.
Wonderful playing!
Thats an awesome tone.
Sounds so much better than the original recording.

Awesome, Adrian! Thanks.
Adrian, thanks for this tune. For me, the most fun genres are Surf and Rockabilly. This surf tune is great.
Thanks Adrian,
I’m relatively new to Guitar (2,5years). Got a Jazzmaster and a surfybear as well and it is so much fun.
Thank you for your Videos
I got a Jag and a Surfybear.
Wow !!! That sounds awesome!!🔥🔥👍 I have to learn that !
Magnificent. More surf please x
Fantastic work
So soothing. Pure class! Thanks, Adrian. Some Charlie Mageira would be nice. He was a highly overlooked player
Brilliant!!
Thanks Adrian..
Marvelous! Well played! :)
Anyone can play guitar but not many can play that well. 👍👍👍👍
If someone were to argue that surf rock is the most fun guitar music to play, I might not argue back. At least not forcefully.
Fantastic. Sounds great!
A thousand up votes. Surfin bird=Full Metal Jacket.
Exactly what I was thinking lol

Very nice. I especially like the Bambi Molesters' live version (on A night in Zagreb).
Great Tutorial! Love your lessons! As a suggestion consider delving into some John Martyn classics for example: Dancing - One World.
Love Surf, Too few play it these days.
Thank you...❤
Its a little easier than Miserlou!
Thank you!
Awesome choice. Also, check out Roy Clark's version. It's killer.
that's the classical version, no ? it is a mind bender watching Roy play that...
That's the Odd Couple memory I have
Or check out a young Paco de Lucía's flamenco version. You won't believe your ears!
“ Happy Almalaguena Day, Jerome” 😂
Awesome....🏄♂🎸🌊👋👍
As usual, you really nailed this one. You've got a great touch and feel. Are there tabs for this lesson? Thanks!
Love this! On Spanish influenced 60s classics how about a lesson on Love's Alone Again Or?
Awesome!👍

I almost forgot, you pronounced it correctly the first time, Adrian (the "u" is silent after "g" unless there is an "umlaut" on top of it).
So cool hodaddy, rad and bitchen like far out. Whereja git those geetars? I'm grabbin' my board and hitting the waves. . Hank Marvin is jealous.
Gob smackingly good

Cheers Adrian, 😊.
Like deployed 👍
😎🎙🏎✅️
Epic!
A little too challenging for me. Maybe a future lesson on Surfing Bird? Oom papa ooma mau mau!
oooh nice :) luck has it I just got myself a surfy bear :)
Good pronunciation of "malagueña"! (the first two times; the "u" is silent) :-)
Such a dramatic song. And the power. It's just 2 chords...alright 3.
Do you have the sheet music for this….?.
Ask Peter Griffin about Surfin' Bird
:) :) :) 👍🏼

Surf music not my favourite I played a lot in the 60-70s mainly Beach Boys but is dated these days.
So?
