It does work, stop and rewind the video and make sure you do it exactly the same. Selecting the variable and clicking on the right thing is important and not immediately obvious without going through it slowly. If you don’t have 2 select image actions followed by an overlay action then you’ve done it wrong. If you don’t see the word “image” in the action description then it might have already replaced it with “photos” which is confusing because both of the “select photo” actions have an output variable called the same thing, “photos” and it’s not clear which is which. If you aren’t sure you can reset the variable and choose the label again. The label is the thing between the actions, and it only shows up if you are midway through the “select magic variable” part.
This is a very helpful tutorial but he is missing the last step, once you’re done with making your new shortcut- 1. Go to the shortcut app 2. Open the new short cut 3. Select the two photos and overlay and reposition as needed! Worked like a charm!

You lost me at the nitty gritty part at 2:27. I feel like at this time stamp you missed a step explaining. When I go to my picture and hit the share button I don't see multiple pictures at the bottom like yours.
What he is not explaining is the last bit… go to your short cuts menu and select the overlay shortcut or whatever you named it… select the photos and the overlay app at the end pops up👍

I can tell you all this technique works. You just have to slow down the video because the instructor speaks far too quickly.

So while clicked on the second one, which was also filled with Photos, I clicked clear variable. Which gave me another ‘image’, and I filled that one with the second photos action. Not pressed continue but managed to do that instead.
