it certainly was. There were so many ways to approach the show and so many ideas you could jump off with and think about. There are very few television shows that years later I will still think about a scene, or a point being made, and this is one of those very few.
this show was so perfect. it's so rare for such a good show to not only stay so good for its whole run, but to have an ending that's so satisfying. this was and will continue to be one of the best shows in all of jeremy bearimy
Exactly like most shows decline after a certain season but this show kept it 100 constantly and it wrapped up everything nicely. I wish they all got a statue thanking them for changing the system
She’s who I really feel for. I mean she, a non living, non robot and NON GIRL somehow developed FEELINGS, which shouldn’t be possible, it just really shows how special her connections with the humans and Micheal really was. It must be so hard to lose all of them, even have it your soul purpose to let them go.
What really kills me is that Janet started as a being not capable of emotions or attachment and by the end she has to watch all her family go while you can visibly see her crying. The “you mind if I stay here... until you’re gone?” speaks a thousand words, not only about the characters but how they all just grew together as a cast. Thank you for such a great show. Miss it.
Man, each time I finish a show I am like "what am I gonna do now"? It's like my life doesn't have sense anymore. BUT I get over it in a few days. It has been a month since I finished the good place, and I didn't get over it. This show will be forever in my heart. At the end, when everyone "dies", I was trying to keep my tears in my eyes to not cry. But when Michael said "take it sleezy"... I couldn't. I never thought that a Netflix show would have the power to even change my life philosophy, but, here he is.
Kinda like after I saw Titanic movie; I was depressed for weeks! I was hoping to find another series written by the same guy, but I have not found anything good yet.
If she becomes an eternal being, she won't need to, as it'll accomplish the same thing. Truly helping people will mean that she will always find new friends and family to be with.
She has always been different to the others though and now from how much she has grown just knowing that the others did it would not make her want to do it too. She is her own now no longer lead by others
I’m so glad Eleanor finally found the peace she was looking for. If anyone deserves it, it’s her, after everything she’s done! (also no joke that hecking compilation or michael’s human moments legit made me cry im- wjcnejcbejdbej it was amazing watching him be so happy to exist as a human)
@@Ben-rz9cf But... you see the problem with that right? Anyway... what they all gain in that moment is Enlightenment.. merging fully into all pervasive Consciousness. This was heartbreaking. Not in a bad way ... I mean she finaly found out some peace and seeing that That peace came from knowing everyone she cares about are happy.. it's just.. heartwarming. I love that the show ended with us wanting more, mourning it's ending, remembering it's brilliance and being satisfied with it's completion all at the same time.
Omfg I was in a state of shock- I was actually bawling and just saying “take it sleazy” over and over, I just can’t believe that in the end the four of them just don’t *exist* anymore. Well accept Tahani, who I feel really bad for as all her friends just don’t exist. I can’t.
Anyone realize that when they enter the door, they become particles on Earth that touches someone to be good..so good people are gone to become a shiny dust that makes you think in a good way...nice!
I love this story. I love that it ends with the permanent death of the main character, but that after everything we've been through, it isn't bad. Eleanor and Chidi and Jason lived and helped others and grew and loved and then they stopped existing. And that's not just okay, it's good. It's special and sacred. Their time came and went, the story is over, and all that matters now is what's left, the ripples they left in the world that will make those of us who watched their story make better choices, do better for others. It's a remarkable ending.
This is so silly, permanent death delete everything you have done , since everything you touched will be dead too, sooner or later... if every part of a whole die eternally then the whole itself does not exist . Would be like you waking up every morning forgetting who you are and what you have done.
But the show does not explicitly state that she no longer exists. Like she said, "the joy is in the mystery". From the perspective of the show and the characters, who knows what happens when that wave returns to the ocean.
It's NOT DEATH. You can see they are returned to the universe. You see Eleanor's matter float to Michael as a little bit of good. The universe is all recycled matter, meaning we are all one and one day. Eleanor lives on through other people she inspired, and will continue to inspire. They don't DIE.
I don't know how they did it, but they tied up this massive scale story in the most perfect way possible. Can't believe it's been over two years since I watched this finale... Nothing will be quite as good as The Good Place for me

Definitely one of THE greatest series finales ever written
Cried the whole episode. It's amazing all the things they managed to accomplish in this show. I'm so proud of everyone. It will always be my favorite show and I will miss it forever.
The door reminds me of the Lethe River from this book I read called “Lost Gods”by Brom. Whenever the souls stuck in purgatory got tired of existing or wanted a final death they would go to the river where they would bath but no one know what happens when you go in the water. Some thought it was the cessation of existence, some thought if you went in it your soul would be bleached but you would be reborn later with a complete clean slate probably not even human, but some animal or a god. Others thought the last theory except you soul wouldn’t be you just someone different. Others thought you would be reincarnated eventually. No one not even the old gods in the book understood what happen when you walked in the river. The only thing everyone knew was that when you got completely tired with your afterlife and existence that this was the place to go to end it all.
Maybe you already know this, but in Greek mythology, the Lethe was the river of forgetting, as the Styx is the river that divides the living world from the underworld.
@@Hakajin True, and bathing in the River Lethe was reserved for souls destined for the Elysian Fields (the good place) so that they wouldn't be troubled by painful memories in the afterlife. I think it's Book IV of the Aeneid that is considered the most comprehensive source for the layout of the Greco-Roman underworld.
@@heatherjones6647 That's funny, because, doesn't Dido turn her back on Aeneis when she sees him in the afterlife? She seemed to remember that, at least.
Hakajin Yeah I know. It was actually used in the book by those stuck in Purgatory as something as a drug or alcohol of sorts. A lot of lost souls paid for the river’s water and drunk it to forget about their previous lives and their past sins.
Take it sleazy my friends, take it sleazy. And hopefully one day when we meet Tahani and Janet in the Afterlife, we will be able to have many Jeremy bearimies before walking through that door.
@@TheM1844 She already explained that from her perspective thats inpossible. In her "mind" she exists in all her times equally. There is no need of "before" for her. Every moment with her friends is everlasting from her point of view and so she wont feel alone ever. She was very clear when Jason was leaving.
Then you remember Tahani's first lines in the whole series, talking about how tiny and precious Eleanor's house is, then turns to Eleanor: "Just. Like. You." *boop* And Eleanor's bemused response, "You booped me!" What a series. So much love.
I thought the show ended once they got into heaven, I appreciate the writers of this show for extending it and not letting it end on a "happily ever after" period, we got to see them happily accept themselves and move on with life and become ones with the fabric of reality, and god this show was genius, it was funny and I loved every episode, now excuse me I'm gonna go rewatch the entire thing and cry again
Janet looking emotional at her leaving will ALWAYS make me have a Sad Smile....... this show is near perfect to me, always enjoyed the episodes and the ending was exceptional in its writing. She was ready..... I wish I was to see this show go
y’all talking about you crying when Michael’s life was being shown, but when I cried the most was when Eleanor was walking and then going through the door, I think I have never cried more in my life. Omg I saw the video again and I’m already crying! Such a great show I’ll always carry in my heart❤️
I’d forgotten about her, but recently rediscovered this and I’m beginning to think she’s the prototype for the Ugnaut in the Mandalorian who says “I have spoken”
And he truly was perfectly cast for both -- in such utterly different roles. A testament to his acting talent, for sure. I thought he was SO wonderful as Michael in this series... wow.
I don’t know how many times I watched this video, but every time I felt peaceful. It reminds me that sometimes good and bad things can happen, and everyone in the world experiences this stuff. Only life can be enjoyable when we stop to try to learn what happens in the end. Just live in the moment.
love the symbolism of her sweater: a literal wave of colors extending outward from her face, which emphasizes the underlying theme of the show that we are what we put out into the world
I really liked the touch that they measured the time in Bearimy's, cuz they've already explained that it's weird and subjective and loops back on itself and totally different from the linear time we experience. This means that the length of a Bearimy may be complely different for each individual. A thousand years for one person a billion for another. That means that everyone could spend as much time in the afterlife as they need with their loved ones, until they are ready to walk through the door. Someone experiences a thousand years before they are ready to move on, whilst the other has experienced a billion with that person. After all, how can it be paradise unless you can get all the time you want with those you love?
I loved how everyone finished their lives on their own terms. Even though they had done so much together and literately saved the entire universe, they still went through the door, which I respect. I don't think this ending could be any better than it already is.
Most underrated show ever. This show is amazing and meaningful. It has a accurate way of showing how the right person can ripple effect an entire group from evil to good. From god to earth. I haven’t watched season 4 yet though.
You never know. Remember chidi spent a long time suppressing his feelings because he didn't want to leave her. And he was also willing to stay for her. So if it was reversed im sure he would have encouraged her to go I like how Jason waited for a long time to give the necklace to Janet. I actually thought that Eleanor was gonna be stopped by chidi and Jason and they would've waited for tahani before all 4 walking through the door
@@israelruiz8706 I mean he could have encouraged her to go if that's what she actually wanted. My point is that she wouldn't. I understand why Chidi had to go but not everyone gets tired of living (at least i would like to think so). In my opinion then if he was okay with staying - truly okay like actually not feeling the urge to go - she would have stayed too. She left because what's the point of living without your loved one forever? But i like your vision. It would be really cool for all of them to go together!
@@Katie-bz4ls well that's honestly how life is. The topics tackled in this show are in reality really depressing to think about and I love how this show handled it. You said she left because her loved one left and you have no idea how true that can be. Most people once they loose their love ones tend to get very accepting of their fate and just wait for the end. And in reality the symbolism of the door is that humans will always chase the unknown. No one really knew what was beyond but what they were told. Which is why they made sure they can leave without regrets. And that's something many people in real life can't experience. Some leave too early and some never fulfill what they tried to do. So I hope that the afterlife is like this show and you get to grow even after you pass
@@israelruiz8706 Yeah if the love of my live left i would definitely go after them soon enough in the afterlife. It's true that i can't know for sure what she felt but this is how i prefer to see it. I'm not saying that's the right way or anything. And i like what you've said about chasing the unknown though i would still prefer staying with the "known" where you have your loved ones and all. But overall i've enjoyed reading about your point of view, we all have our own best endings in our heads. Cheers!
Every goodbye in this show was heartbreaking...its a credit to the writing and the acting. You believed every relationship between the charaters was real They were all soul mates for one another really. That s what i think made the show so good. Brilliant ending! @ 2:26 Who would've guessed the "emotionless all-knowing database" would become arguably the heart and soul of this show, and the main reason I cried many times during the series finale.
This final exit is satisfying, in a way that gives me everything I need in a deep part of my soul. Jason's exit on the other hand, breaks me open every time.
I have never ugly/happy cried through a whole episode before. It made me feel literally every emotion: joy, happiness, grief, despair, emptiness, contentment... all of them. I fell in love with the characters, and I feel like I got to experience their rewards and ultimate release. I will never forgive this show for doing this me.
You guys have no idea how hard I cried watching this scene back in 2020, I remember the moment in detail. The good place was also the last tv show I had watched before the beginning of the pandemic, this series has a very special place in my heart.
I just finished the series, and feel so empty cause they all didn’t stay together forever. I know they all have a happy ending and found peace but damn them feels 😢
This episode, including this scene and the very final one, got me in my feelings and had me thinking. I wanted Eleanor and Chidi to live happily ever after, but they ended up parting ways. It's pretty rare for a feel-good comedy like this to have people crying. What a great show.
Man I was bawling my eyes out this whole episode. It was so heartbreaking. What really got to me about this show is all the philosophy. We are so fragile and the joy of life really does come from the mystery. You have 1 life and you will never truly know what happens after. You cannot take your single life for granted. It’s your journey and there will be some rough patches, but there will always be a light on the other side of the storm cloud. “Where I’m from, most things blow up eventually. So when something dope comes along, you gotta lock it down” - Jason. Live life to the fullest but don’t be a smooth brain. Take opportunities when it appears. And most importantly, love yourself and those around you. No matter where you are, you may have something that others don’t. Remember that.
you know, i dont know why but comedies always have the most heartfelt poignant moments. i straight up cried over the last two episode. that happens very rarely.

What I like about this show more than anything? That it hung on to the thesis that the fundamental material of people is the impulse towards good. When Eleanor Leaves she becomes the impulse towards selflessness.
Beste ending ever. How this show ended out and the meaning of the ending made me cry.. I even held my daughter and son alot longer before they went to bed, my daughter was like "why are you crying dad?" Im like, I just never want to let you 2 go!
Came back a year to watch this scene again.. Man o man I miss this show but still glad they ended it with such a strong ending. And here we are so close to the end of this stupid pandemic! Hold on people!
I can count on one hand the times I have hysterically cried at the ending of a tv show. This one takes the cake. So emotional but satisfying yet still so sad. What a perfect show.

That was definitely D'Arcy talking, not Janet.
G Gg she effectively died again, but permanently, ceasing to exist within the universe.
Existential crisis coming on fast
Coasters, Gaming and Stuff 👍 appreciate it bud
@@banger2998 no problem :)
She’s who I really feel for. I mean she, a non living, non robot and NON GIRL somehow developed FEELINGS, which shouldn’t be possible, it just really shows how special her connections with the humans and Micheal really was. It must be so hard to lose all of them, even have it your soul purpose to let them go.
this show was a love letter to humanity, gawd im gonna miss them so much
What really kills me is that Janet started as a being not capable of emotions or attachment and by the end she has to watch all her family go while you can visibly see her crying. The “you mind if I stay here... until you’re gone?” speaks a thousand words, not only about the characters but how they all just grew together as a cast. Thank you for such a great show. Miss it.
I like to think Janet is with tahani in the end since tahani decided to stay to be an architect like Michael was.
It's NBC not Netflix they could never make anything this good
Same with me😭
same
Kinda like after I saw Titanic movie; I was depressed for weeks! I was hoping to find another series written by the same guy, but I have not found anything good yet.
@@paulzimmerman9161 well I don’t know if you’re into anime but this show reminded me a lot of “angel beats” the ending was just as sad :(
Poor tahini, I wonder if she’ll eventually go through the door when she finds out all her friends and family did
If she becomes an eternal being, she won't need to, as it'll accomplish the same thing.
Truly helping people will mean that she will always find new friends and family to be with.
Tahini... like the sauce.
She has always been different to the others though and now from how much she has grown just knowing that the others did it would not make her want to do it too. She is her own now no longer lead by others
I could imagine that once the human race ended, once every test was implemented, once nothing needed to be designed...she’d finally rest
Janet is still with her. And Mindy Sinclair. I would love to see the misadventures of the three of them.
It's a fucking acting show, not real life
i wanted them to stay in the good place together forever :(
@@Ben-rz9cf But... you see the problem with that right?
Anyway... what they all gain in that moment is Enlightenment.. merging fully into all pervasive Consciousness. Can't get more TOGETHER than THAT.
Where Janet only has access to all that is WITHIN the Universe(s) ... the Enlightened have access to THAT which lies BEYOND the universe ... beyond Time/Space... to merge with THAT which is the all pervasive, all Inclusive Source of Time/Space.... formless Consciousness / Awareness ITSELF. In that moment... one gains EVERYTHING.
Faith Rada i dont get it though lmaoo are they conscious or not after the doorway?
@@bwingbwinggwiyomi Yo lo interpreto como que en algún momento el Universo volverá a enviar sus almas y reencarnarán en otro ser.
This was heartbreaking. Not in a bad way ... I mean she finaly found out some peace and seeing that That peace came from knowing everyone she cares about are happy.. it's just.. heartwarming. The idea of returning as a wave of good and caring behaviour, on earth, is wonderful.. I'm just so emotional rn

I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to one of my favourite show with some of the best characters and seeing them all evolve over four seasons. Thank you for soo many laughs and tears I’m gonna miss it. Life is gonna go back to being BASIC ❤️❤️2016-2020 ❤️

Omfg I was in a state of shock- I was actually bawling and just saying “take it sleazy” over and over, I just can’t believe that in the end the four of them just don’t *exist* anymore. Well accept Tahani, who I feel really bad for as all her friends just don’t exist. I can’t.

Anyone realize that when they enter the door, they become particles on Earth that touches someone to be good..so good people are gone to become a shiny dust that makes you think in a good way...nice!
yeah... no shit sherlock
Seeing Mary (Ted’s wife irl) as his guitar teacher just slayed me.
Yeah, didn't see that one coming. With implications she might become more than just his music teacher.
I bet a hug from Janet feels like the most amazing hug you've ever had
That was Perfect. Period.
Eleanor’s conscience making it to Earth to have someone go out of their way to give Michael a rewards card was enough to make me cry
Spinoff Series: The No Place.
The gang is reconstituted beyond our reality, and are now lost in the Multiverse.
I want that, but I don't want that.
YESSSSS
No
Just a spinoff of Tahani designing Michael's neighborhood will be more than enough
@@enyeng0 That would be incredible
I don't know how they did it, but they tied up this massive scale story in the most perfect way possible. Can't believe it's been over two years since I watched this finale... Nothing will be quite as good as The Good Place for me
Definitely one of THE greatest series finales ever written
One of the greatest series ever written
“I want to... start crying.” -Chidi
Take it sleazy my friends, take it sleazy. And hopefully one day when we meet Tahani and Janet in the Afterlife, we will be able to have many Jeremy bearimies before walking through that door.
I don’t think Janet could go through the door, which is the saddest part about the ending.
@@iamthebatman6557 Why is that sad? Living eternally isnt torture for her so ideally we wouldnt want her to die for no reason.
I hope so
@@shihoblade Its because in the end one day Michael and Tahani will follow the others and she'll be left alone.
@@TheM1844 She already explained that from her perspective thats inpossible. In her "mind" she exists in all her times equally. There is no need of "before" for her. Every moment with her friends is everlasting from her point of view and so she wont feel alone ever. She was very clear when Jason was leaving.
i can't get over how TINY kristen looks while hugging d'arcy. she's so small and precious
The last line should have been Neutral Janet saying “End of Series”
Nahh that would of ruined the tone
@@lynxmusic4183 yeah they had a certain sad vibe and the ending actually made me laugh
I’d forgotten about her, but recently rediscovered this and I’m beginning to think she’s the prototype for the Ugnaut in the Mandalorian who says “I have spoken”
Ted Danson now a part of 2 of the best sitcoms of all time, decades apart. Good Place and Cheers
Becker was pretty damn good too
And he truly was perfectly cast for both -- in such utterly different roles. A testament to his acting talent, for sure. I thought he was SO wonderful as Michael in this series... wow.
I'm having trouble accepting that the wave has returned to the ocean 😭😭😭
I don’t know how many times I watched this video, but every time I felt peaceful. It reminds me that sometimes good and bad things can happen, and everyone in the world experiences this stuff. Only life can be enjoyable when we stop to try to learn what happens in the end. Just live in the moment.
love the symbolism of her sweater: a literal wave of colors extending outward from her face, which emphasizes the underlying theme of the show that we are what we put out into the world
also the six stripes for the six amigos :))
Let’s appreciate how Janet became the first Janet to be able to suggest something before the human asks
Anybody else notice that Jason's collar is Jaguars teal?
That’s adorable
That’s adorable
Most underrated show ever. This show is amazing and meaningful. It has a accurate way of showing how the right person can ripple effect an entire group from evil to good. From god to earth. I haven’t watched season 4 yet though.
This ending was perfectly crafted. I couldn't imagine a better ending for this story
If think she would never leave if Chidi was still there
You never know. Remember chidi spent a long time suppressing his feelings because he didn't want to leave her. And he was also willing to stay for her. So if it was reversed im sure he would have encouraged her to go
I like how Jason waited for a long time to give the necklace to Janet.
Maybe there ll be a spin off show called "Michael" now that he s on earth... there is the door that lets Janet visit...if she brings a frog.😉
I will never forgive this show for doing this me.
this show broke me like no other.. fr i was sobbing my eyes out
I love how the first and last lines in the show were said by Michael ☺️
You guys have no idea how hard I cried watching this scene back in 2020, I remember the moment in detail. The good place was also the last tv show I had watched before the beginning of the pandemic, this series has a very special place in my heart.
I just finished the series, and feel so empty cause they all didn’t stay together forever. I know they all have a happy ending and found peace but damn them feels 😢

Well it is the good place. ❤
i don’t know why but her leaving didn’t feel as. complete. as everyone else.
The person she loved the most was gone. So she probably felt there wasn't much else for her.
I think it's cause she didn't cry like we were. There were emotions for sure, but knowing Eleanor, you'd expect her to be sad...
Truly one of the best TV shows I've run across in my sixty years.
their farewell was so emotional... this was really the best show
This show was such a gem. I’m so glad it exists
Eleanor became part of us... our universe. Literally.
the part where eleanor explained michael's life.. im crying again
I’m so glad the cast & crew stuck to telling their story/vision rather than give in to fan theories, etc, because this ending was truly beautiful.
This is the only show that has ever made my cry 😭. Eleanor walking through the door hit me the hardest.
Thank you to all the cast & crew. You guys really got to me. ❤️

I started watching this show back in 2018 with my older cousin, I got Netflix this month and decided I should finally finish it. I truly think this is one of the most beautiful shows I’ve ever watched. I cried my eyes out at the end it’s just so amazing
This was perfect and so heartbreaking. Wow. Cannot believe this show ended the way it did. I love it.
I will eternally love this show.
What I like about this show more than anything? That it hung on to the thesis that the fundamental material of people is the impulse towards good. When Eleanor Leaves she becomes the impulse towards selflessness.
In this episode I couldn’t stop crying
Genuinely gonna miss this stellar show. I cried a little when Elenor walked through that arch, then again that last time Michael said take it sleazy.

Love those bows.
I cried so much during this episode. But at the same time I think it was the most beautiful ending to a story ever
A year late but I was sobbing through the whole episode. This show is beautiful.
I can count on one hand the times I have hysterically cried at the ending of a tv show. This one takes the cake. So emotional but satisfying yet still so sad. What a perfect show.
When people walk through thr door, they cease to exist - just like what really happens to us when we die. We make our Good Place and Bad Place here on Earth.
Is that wishful thinking or are there any written things that confirm this....?
There must be an afterlife.
Danson’s wife teaching him to play guitar was pitch perfect. Love this series. Perfect from beginning to end.
The little blackboard next to the coffee shop while Michael is leaving says "Drink some coffee, you are going to be fine."
