- In this video we challenge our fishing skills and use snake lollies instead of the soft plastics which I usually use in search of flathead on the sand flats.

using snakes to catch a lizard.
We used to use the silver paper on the inside of a ciggy box, catch a couple for bait and go home with a feed.
Caught a 109 cm Flathead and at only recently found out that's an awesome fish. Once hooked It actually swam towards me then gave up,felt like i was dragging a plastic bag through the water. I let her go to breed and make more Flatty's. Great battle , Great content man.

@@The-anti-Pick-fish was fishing at 3:30 am just off Pulbah island ,Lake Macquarie . I put a large banana prawn on the hook and laid down in the half cabin for awhile. Saw rod move slightly when i went to check line she swam to the boat.

Unlucky Champ!!! I feel for you. We’ve all lost that Big One, but that’s what brings us back to keep trying and hopefully get that next chance??
I was like 100% sure that it will be a stingray but then again, it is much more likely for flathead to take a lollie. I don´t know what kind of line and leader you use but in my opinion, you actually would have a better chance to land those big fish if you kept your drag as tight as you possibly dare. Works for me at least. Anyway. Loving Aussie fishing so I will be following your channel. Dreaming about getting there once again.

Well that flatly got a sugar rush. I lived on the south coast and caught some good ones and my experience is you need a bit of drag to set the hook and then back off especially with light rods. Awesome video though. Would have been good to land it but that's what makes us even more keen for next time hey?

Sometimes if your drag is too light a hook will just drop out when the fish turns or shakes it head.

Hi mate. Great video. You did nothing wrong. Slowly walking him backwards was the only way and that’s what you were doing. A huge fish like that you can’t put too much hurt on them with light gear. Unfortunately as you found out one turn and it’s gone.
Keep at it you will land the next giant.

A couple of years ago I saw the biggest flattie I had ever seen, sitting on the sand just off the side of the jetty. She must have been close to 900, I leant on the rail and watched her for a while as dozens of people walked past. Of course I kept quiet in case somebody decided to eat the big breeder.
Are you worried about stepping on stingrays? Where is this place? I thought every where is fished out?
