That official shade at 9:24 though:)
"But when you're asking me for insurance, when you don't even have a gear list? It does raise my hackles a little bit.."
*That was the most elegant way to sum up how so many of us feel at times as producers. THANK YOU! And Kudos to this channel for including this part of the process.

I appreciated the segment on insurance. Having worked insurance myself, no company will insure anything unless they know what the cost is FIRST of what they are insuring. Not a difficult concept to understand.

I don't fully understand the disagreement. Why didn't the dp/operator know what equipment he wanted to use for the insurance quote?
Shouldn't he say what he wants, then the producer says yes or no? If yes they get an insurance quote....if no, the dp modifies his request and goes back to the producer?

    • @chrislee343
      @chrislee343 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I'm pretty sure he didn't know what his gear list was, because he didn't know how much money he had in the first place. I was confused too at first, but I guess it's just the low budget filmmaking hurdles

As a DP myself I can say the DP here was wrong. How can you expect the producer to pull a magic trick because you didn't do a simple part of your job. He knew the producer wanted the gear list so h can get it approved by the insurance. he even told him the amount of money available in other episodes. From the very beginning, he seemed pretty money hungry.

Absolutely beautiful! Even though I won't claim to have ever delved as deep into the full film production process the way your team has done while making this film, I can say (as a small indie film maker myself) that every part illustrated in this Series is relatable and I have learnt quite a lot from each episode.
The struggles and hurdles of film production are real, and sometimes draining, but when the cake is all done and baked, it is worth it! Once you have the right crew, your film vision is one step away from being realised!
    Keep 'em coming - I'm a sub'er!

Yes, you both were being hostile to Herman. And it was absolutely STUPID for Marvin to insist on insurance without Herman knowing WHAT to insure.
    Marvin: Get me insurance!
    Herman: For what?
    Marvin: JUST GET IT!
Yeah, I don't think so. And the director should have seen that red flag and supported his producer, because NOW Herman knows that SC doesn't have his back.

The producer CANNOT get insurance for air. This is common sense; you need to tell him what equipment you will need for the shots you want before he can get a quotation for the insurance. AMATEURS! I imagine the sound guy dropped out for a good reason, not related to his fears of his equipment getting wet.

Very good so far :) I am also interested in knowing the marketing process for these kind of smaller projects.
If your production cost is $5643, how much funds would you allocate separately for marketing?
What would be the most realistic way for someone with a tiny budget to actually get the content to an audience?
Is it wiser to do webisodes if its a series and follow the normal TH-cam,Instagram, twitter promotions?
    If it's a 1 hr 30 min film, is TH-cam a viable option?
Lastly, if you have a very successful project and you generate profits, how is this shared between the distributors, production, crew members, actors etc? A bit of information about royalty distribution.

In hindsight the "DP" acted like a complete d*** and the quality of his work (based on the final product shown in EP. 6 with photography being the one in the spotlight) doesn't justify such attitude, Herman really showns his knowledge of the biz, his capabilities as a producer, the other it's like he just wanted to have some toys to play with the day of shooting.
