      Oh snap, I'd forgotten about that tablecloth; I remember asking Doug about it, but I think he said it was nothing more than a proof-of-concept thing, and that the actual implementation of it en masse wouldn't be worth it, especially since they'd basically have to outsource the production since they're not a textile plant.
      I could ask him if you want confirmation.

    Appreciate the effort here, many weeks of work with lots of hands involved. The hidden magnet innovation is brilliant, very cool design for the hinges and good idea to plug the bottom holes with the rubber feet. Love the two way dice tower and the table tray. I also like the laminated wood combos themed on class, they're very slick in the dice trays and the wood combos work pretty well here too. I've followed the whole design arc up to today and as someone who was pretty pumped/motivated to buy a Wyrmwood GM screen, I wanna briefly outline why I won't be backing this product this go round.
    1. The justification for laminated solid wood panel vs 'frame and panel' construction was aggressive pricing. The most modest offering is landing at $65 for a standard panel and quickly ramps up from there, which is more than twice what the hopeful target was. I know that cost probably includes supply chain issues, inflation, magnet sourcing, etc. But I don't like the look of it and the price isn't low enough to justify the compromise. Jason was right from the get go, frame and panel would've been superior.
    2. The display port shield, in my opinion, is a woefully inadequate substitution for back panel customization. Lots of people who followed this design journey threw out amazing ideas for panel customization and I'm not keen on where we ended up.
    3. Although the hidden magnet hinge is a huge success, I do worry about the tiny slice of wood between the edge of the panel and that magnet. Even in your preview video at 2:47, you can see the top of that Panel sandwiched between the magnet and the Dice Tower has broken and splintered off.
    I hope the product launch is a success for you all; tons of people worked really hard on it and deserve to see it do well. Unfortunately it's just not what I was hoping for. Thanks for sharing the journey.

      Been commenting on these videos about Frame and Panel being the way to go all along. Totally agree with everything you said here mate. Final product looks nice, but its way to expensive and space consuming for an accessory item. Granted I have never used a screen and never will dont like creating barriers between myself and my players, but if I were to use one I would want something more compact and easier to move about. Travel with these things is going to be annoying.

      @@fjorgthebuilder I use the stratagem one, got it on Amazon for like 20 bucks. It's plastic and folds up pretty small. I like using it when my group plays in person because it's where all my notes are, and it comes with sheets that have a lot of useful information on them already. I found 3 of the 4 really useful, and the 4th I swapped out for a sheet of stuff that I wanted to keep track of.

      I've been looking at comparable sized panel/frame woods to build my own screens, of course before milling out magnet holes and metal bars, finishing wood stains / sealant, etc.. and it can be done for way way less.. obviously they have to make a profit for the time and work, but each panel could easily start at $30 instead of $65.
      Even with solids though, the wood itself should be less than $10/panel, with cuts, stain, sealer, milling and magnets, etc.. still under $20 each before labor cost. So.. I think I'm just gonna try to make my own and then even if I fail to match their quality, I spent a lot less still and I have tools and materials for the future. I'd personally like to add laser engraving as well.

      Ok I do some wood working, and occasionally take some private requests. Why does it cost so much? Well R&D to come up with the modular designs, some expesive hard woods, and probably the most of it, time to manufacture. Even if it is made in a partial assembly line (which I really have no idea how they are made), the development of that process and time for finishing and all the custom work for each order justifies the price. Which if I setup how i wanted with several extra features would be around $530, honestly not a bad price. If i wanted something like this, I would probably make on my own for about half or a third the price in lumber, but I already have the tools I would need, which are not cheap, and it would take me a few full days of work to finish to match their style and quality, yes this can be simplified alot and be way cheaper, but sometimes people what something with a nice design and finish.

    You know, a lot of these master tracker addons can be replaced with a printed piece of legal/A4 paper that has a suitable design with some tracks on it, plus those magnetic push pins.
    So all you really need is a couple mag plates (one for ref, and one for tracking) and enough push pins and you're all set!
    If you also like to display a map to your players you could reverse the middle screen and use an acrylic panel on that one.
    So a super basic budget setup would be:
    * 3 cherry panels (3x$65 = $195)
    * 2 full mag plates (2x$30 = $60)
    * 1 acrylic plate ($25)
    * 2 sets of push pins (2x$10 = $20)
    Which would come to exactly $300. I don't think you could get away with anything less than this.
    Personally I would probably replace one magplate with a single tray (increasing the above price by $5) and add some initiative tracking, or you could just add all of that to have options:
    * white ini set ($10 or $20 depending on how many players you have)
    * black set ($10 or $20 depending on how large your encounters are)
    * turn tracker ($10)
    * cherry tray ($35)
    Now you're at $365-$385
    I think a lot of people are salivating over the dice tower. At $120 I think it's a bit too much for a luxury I don't really need, but even if you add that in you'd still only be at almost exactly $500, for a quite complete (super basic but multifunctional) setup. That is, by Wyrmwood standards, VERY reasonable.
    You'd have to make a (few) full page design(s) based on their master trackers and print that of course, but I'm sure the community could provide some

It seems all of them are priced gouged because of name recognition, which honestly, just makes me go on ETSY too get something of similar quality than this, with all the bells and whistles, initiative trackers, magnetic top and hinges. Sure, it might be a few small oak boards glued together sometimes, but all of what you just said plus the wood of your choice is maybe $200-$250 for 4 panels on Etsy with everything included. This is what I did, support local sellers, not this.

    can’t justify $200 for 3 small panels that look like the cabinets in my mother’s kitchen. they aren’t even frame & panel - it’s a bit too rich for my blood… and not to mention that that’s before any customization to match decor or aesthetic.
    i like the company, and i’m happy i get to support y’all how and when i can, but it looks like this one’s gonna have to be a pass from me. best of luck, i’m sure you’re still gonna do big numbers without me lol.

    Edit: Spoke to soon, it would be good, if the display in the middle scrolls with the user, the farther you go down the options, you loose the image.. And I don't have a 4000 pixel tall screen

    • @GramGramAnimations
      @GramGramAnimations 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is exactly what I wanna do! I also got their gaming table, which has a stained maple base with everything else maple (including topper). The cherry wood option i can tell will clash a bit, and I’d really prefer to have a full matching set without having to sink all my money on the Purple Heart. All wizard panels with a maple dice tower would look awesome I think, or just getting a wizard display panel maybe

  • @d_dave7200

    Looks great, but missing the following:
    1. Masterwork/Signature Series screen/s
    2. An octagonal storage unit to match the tower (only way I’m buying a tower)
    3. A rotating panel, or at least a two- sided panel that displays stuff to the party and still looks beautiful.
    Hope these can be stretch goals/surprises.
    Lack of #3 gives me pause for the whole project because even if I reverse a panel then I’m not sure how I’d use the plain side efficiently without magnets.

    • @d_dave7200
      @d_dave7200 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and gemstone inserts. Or even better for me, an insert with a gemstone Wyrmwood shield. Though I imagine that may already be planned for a stretch goal.

    • @Very_Okay
      @Very_Okay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      for #3 you could just flip the panel around and display the back as the front. it’s somewhat inelegant and it removes a panel’s worth of information from the dm, but at least that is an option.

    Nice job over there. Waiting for the launch date.
    Pricing looks sensible apart from the dice tower.
    It is an ''extra''; however, the starting price is double the price of the main thing / panel which doesn't really makes a sense.
    Of course, more man hours are required for the tower but still marketing wise the extras are always less costly than the main product

    Am I crazy or should there be a bundle price for tri-screen or quad-screen? Because PER PANEL cost is going to hurt the bank the most and that's BEFORE the accessories!

    • @mattbanak8917
      @mattbanak8917 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Idk, that feels like pulling hairs to me. What are you going to do, buy one panel? They've already priced in the discount you're referring to, they just applied it to any panel order because they know you can't reasonably just get one and it simplifies pricing for everyone. Plus it makes it easier to conceptualize the price for those who want to mix and match wood types across their panels.

    • @cogspace
      @cogspace 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A bundle price for literally the configuration 99% of people will buy? Yes, you are crazy lol. The only way they could justify that financially would be by raising the individual panel price to the point that the "bundle price" would be exactly what it costs now, or by raising the accessory price, selling the panels at a loss, and hoping that it tricks people into buying more accessories to make up the shortfall. Why go through all that trouble when they could just be upfront about costs?
      Trust me, they're already gambling plenty with all the R&D, initial production, and marketing work they've already done. Why risk even more uncertainty when the end result will just be dishonest and manipulative at best and disastrous at worst? These are niche, luxury products made out of expensive materials using expensive tools and expensive labor. It's impressive that they have been able to get the prices as low as they already are.

    • @daringdarius5686
      @daringdarius5686 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason bundles get a discount is because companies will shove otherwise undesirable products in, so you pay a little more for stuff you don't want, but because it's a sale you feel like you're saving money, when you're actually losing money.
      "Hey you think this shaver is good? Well it's $40" (You: Well, mine is just fine and I don't need to buy a new one let alone spend that much)
      "Well for just right now you can buy 2 of them for not $40, but $20!" (You: woah, that sounds like a great deal!)
      "That's not all! Order in the next 5 minutes and we'll throw in shaving cream!" (You: I will *absolutely* throw money at you guys!)
      So even though you may just want a shaver you spent $20 on a bunch of crap and cheap razors, when you otherwise wouldn't buy it to begin with. :)
      Wyrmwood isn't trying to force product down your throat, they want you to buy what you want. They clearly worked very hard to bring the price down as much as they have. I'm sure bulk ordering and mass production brought the price way down, but I'm still struggling to see if they were even able to (for the Cherry wood) able to get it at or below $35 (they have to make profit and account for failures, i.e. craftsmen promise) for both materials AND labor.
      I think the cost is fine, more affordable than I thought was possible, and if I wasn't currently a poor college boy, very much within reach if you budget and save some money here and there. :)

    I’m curious why no Maple for wood options? Is Maple just super limited right now? I was hoping to maybe get this to match the maple toppers on my WyrmWood gaming table, which also has a stained maple base. None of the options here seem like they’d match the table unfortunately, EXCEPT for the wizard screen, which I quite like (Purple Heart and maple). Problem here is there is no maple option for the dice tower, so things start to get really expensive since I can’t do a maple and Purple Heart mix. Would love to do a full wizard set with a maple dice tower, just doesn’t look like it’ll be an option

    • @whatalansaid
      @whatalansaid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they touched on this in a previous video, but there was a ton of variance in the maple lots and the screens didn’t look good when you joined boards from different lots together. That’s pretty common with maple honestly. Too hard to standardize and too much risk of creating a product that wouldn’t satisfy purchasers.

I wish we had gotten a firmer date on when MGT 2.0 is coming out because I am still planning on that launching this year so I will have to save for that dream table. I really hope the GM screen becomes something that can be bought in the online store. Your products are amazing but being able to finance through Affirm or something would make a lot of these expensive products a lot easier to justify.
