  • “Vissi d’arte” from Puccini’s Tosca - Performed by Ingrid Vermeulen
Enjoy my rendition of one of the most iconic arias from Giacomo Puccini’s opera Tosca. “Vissi d’arte” is sung by the character Floria Tosca in Act 2, as she reflects on her life devoted to art and faith, yet finds herself in a desperate and tragic situation.
Set in Rome, Tosca tells a tale of love, political intrigue, and sacrifice. Tosca, an opera singer, is caught between the love for her beloved Mario Cavaradossi and the menacing advances of the corrupt police chief Scarpia.
In “Vissi d’arte”, Tosca pleads with God, asking why she must suffer despite living a life of devotion and morality. This emotionally charged aria has become a soprano showcase, renowned for its expressive power and deep feeling.
    🎶 About the Opera:
Tosca premiered in 1900 in Rome and is one of Puccini’s most popular works, blending high drama with beautiful, soaring melodies. The story, based on Victorien Sardou’s play La Tosca, remains a staple in opera houses worldwide.
🎹 Special thanks to Lindsey for her beautiful piano accompaniment.
