Nice to have you back, guys! I was wondering why nobody came up with a Zenith A386 as alternative to the Daytona. Daytona even used the Zenith movement for 10, 15(?) years until Rolex had finished their own chronograph movement.

So the process of choosing an alternative, is anything but "cut n' dry." I feel like this was a fascinating exhibition, of these possible perspectives. Andrew, I really love the "Time and Tides collab" w/ Grenchen, the mission behind it, and your highlighting of said cause. We need to protect, and conserve, our vulnerable wildlife. Bravo men. Okay, for in this episode George nailed the Submariner alternative with the Tag Heuer aquaracer. Andrews pick to me is direct competitor of the Submariner with the Fithy Fathoms, while Adrian's choice was the Superocean and to me you can get better dive watches.
The second alternative which was the Omega Speedmaster, Adrian's pick is the winner. George used the Zenith but I would used it in the Rolex Daytona alternative and Andrew's pick with the Bulova is not bad but if we take account from a finishing perspective the Bell and Ross it's better.
The Calatrava alternative it's definitely Adrian's pick with the Longines Sector Dial. I mean, the Calatrava it's a icon for dress watches because of the old style dress watches that profesional people wear and the Sector Dial just gives the same vibe.
The Rolex Daytona alternative I gave it to Adrian's Tudor, George's Bulgari finisimo chrono and Andrew's Parmigiani to me it's way different from a Daytona perspective.
The Reverso alternative it's so Andrew's Cartier, because the fun thing about the JLC reverso its the gimmick to turn the case and what comes next to it was Andrew's pick.
For the Moonswatch, Andrew wins again because the Mayfair it's so identical to the Moonswatch in terms of playfulness of colors and it's better built.
The Rolex GMT alternative it's very difficult to judge for Andrew's and Adrian's picks, but in terms of alternatives I have to go with Adrian's choice, it has almost the same feeling of a Rolex GMT. I didn't pick the Longines because to me it's so diferent in terms of style.
Great Show guys I am a big fan from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. Keep doing this videos, they're awesome!!!!!

but kept it and will pass it on in due time.
Still have box papers and original receipt ( wished i bought ten of them at the time )

I loved the new intro! The B&R Speedy alternative was not a great choice, though I think as a watch on its own it looks okay, if not special (and pricey). The Tudor as a Daytona alternative was crap, even if I like the watch on its own. Not to be harsh on Adrian, I also think the Zenith open heart alternative was a poor choice. It seemed like just an excuse because George liked the watch. The Bulgari chrono alternative was brilliant though.

Great to see you back for season 2, loving the show as ever. Probably would have put the Omega Seamaster 300 (not 300m) up there as a contender vs. the Sub. Heritage, build quality, classic but modernised styling... Zenith Chrono Sport vs. the Daytona (though not exactly 'available'!). Not sure how you let Andrew's choice of the Longines Zulu (great piece imo) slide after his own bold statement about 'not wanting to see anything that didn't have a bi-colour bezel' though!! Surprised no one said Tudor BB58 or Omega SMP 300M Diver for sub. Also think that the Grand Seiko SBGW231 is a perfect Calatrava alternative on a budget! $4300 USD for 37mm case size, cream dial, and the classic zaratsu hands and indices.

    • @marcusflack1523

I think the bb58 was too obvious for the lads or they all thought the other one would mention it so they avoided. You see they never pre talk prior to the show with their pics. That way the banter is fresh and spontaneous.

@@marcusflack1523 fair point about bb58 but they chose tudor chrono as Daytona alternative so that makes all Tudors fair game for rolex alternatives in my book. It's like if they picked an alternative to rolex explorer 2 and didn't choose the pro as an alternative.

SOOOOOOO happy you guys are back. I could tell too because I was recapping France vs Poland and as soon as I heard that comment about Adrian’s strap I burst out laughing.
I don’t have time to finish the video before bed, but am about half way through and will throw out some alternatives. Sub for me is the diver to own, but I nearly bought my alternative prior to getting may first Sub. The Omega Seamaster 300m Master Coaxial is for me a clear choice. Specifically the first generation too and not the new one. It’s a ‘57 Seamaster, but with some modern updates and it’s a helluva watch for the money in the grey market as prices are now going down again. I could have had one for $3500 back in the day and should have pulled the trigger. It’s a bit thick, but still wears well.
Speedy alternative for me is easy. Daytona. I have a few Speedy Pros and I love them all (first Speedy Tuesday is the one to get if you ask me), but I also love my Daytona. That said, now just as I type you’re introducing the Daytona into the conversation and so I’ll go elsewhere. Tough to say off the top of my head. I’m thinking Zenith and that all black one.
Calatrava has two immediate answers for me. Available new, I’d say Lange Saxonia 35mm or if you must 37mm. That said, and this has nothing to do with Andrew’s answer but it’s a very similar watch, I’d say Jaeger Lecoultre Geophysic 1958. Pick your metal. I had it in steel and traded it in to get my Speedmaster Japan Racing, but I didn’t want to. I can see myself getting it again in the future. Watch fit my wrist better than anything else I’ve ever owned. Dial was fantastic and the faux lume on the hands was very light and seemed more a color choice. Just a fantastic watch and were I filthy rich I’d have it in every metal.
On to the Daytona, tough one. A few things come to mind. If you can’t get one thanks to your AD, and you can’t afford a gold or platinum reference, then a two-tone Daytona. Price only went up about 3% with the last increases while the steel went up 10%. Only thing I don’t like as much on the two-tones are the dials, though if I had to choose I’d go with the white dial. Another alternative, Speedmaster pick your side of the moon. Seemingly wears well for 44mm and you some great designs and a ton of watchmaking for some fantastic prices in the grey market (as prices have now gone down again to in some cases about 50% off). For me, I’d take the Apollo 8 which is a fantastic looking design. If I had the money though, I’d go Lange. Take your pick and I don’t care so much which metal.
I have a Reverso, the thin tribute to 1913 from 2012. Love the watch and the syringe hands. I do want my recommended alternative though, which is a Cartier Tank Louis Cartier. It’s such a classic looking piece. That said, I think there are plenty of Tanks that would be viable alternatives and at various price points.
Rolex GMT is my favorite Rolex and probably favorite watch of all time. If I had to find an alternative it’d be really hard. My immediate answer, go previous gen GMT and pick your bezel. Coke, Pepsi or even the underrated black. That said, I’ll play by the rules and go with…. Rolex Explorer II Polar. I only ever wanted the 40mm version from the 90s/00s, but having tried on the current gen it fits amazingly well. If I can’t go with Rolex here, I’d go with a Tudor Pepsi. Needs to be re-sized, but I think that will come in time.

Guys, I'm not sure if I share a teste for watches with any of you, but it's always so fun to listen to these conversations. So it's great to have you back. I'm looking forward to the next episodes. And here are my alternatives. Submariner: well, I'm not a huge divewatch fan, but if I had to choose one, I'd go for the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M. Probably in blue. The sub is such a good looking watch. What fascinates me about the Seamaster is that I actually don't like it in pcitures. But I love the looks of it on the wrist. Moonwatch: I sort of agree with Andrew here about the Bulova, but I'd wait for the next year and the release of the new smaller (period accurate) version of it. In the meantime, I'd really have to go for the Hanhart 417 ES as one of the (albeit very much less) legendary monochrome chronographs. It's just beautiful and has a strong story to it as well, although very far from anything moon related (unless Hollywood stars count for a space theme :-D ). With the Calatrava, I'd just go for something from the Nomos Catalogue, maybe my Orion Neomatic Silvercut :-) . Daytona: well, I'd choose a Zenith here any time, I'd go for one of the current A384 models. Although I must say I liked the choice of the Bulgari here, great one George. I'd still go for the Zenith. Reverso: Really the tough one without bending the rules. I mean, I really don't know many reversible watches and certainly not in the at least a bit appropriate realm. So this time, I'd stretch it a bit... Reverso still gives me much sportier vibes than any other rectangular shaped watches. The Tank is, compared to Reverso, too dressy for me. But as an alternative, I'd stay within the Cartier catalogue and I'd go for the Santos de Cartier. Because, same as Reverso, this gives me the sportier vibes. MoonSwatch: I think George had a near miss... To make that a perfect alternative, that would have the be the CasiOak: an hommage to a legend, sort of, but in that familiar durable form. Many colours to choose from as well... GMT Master II: I was about to say "Just get a Seiko 5 GMT"... It's a great watch, probably all you'd ever need. Until you handle the GMT Master II in person... Well, since then it's difficult. Personally, I'd never go for the GMT Master II in the first place, I'd just go for the Explorer II (greetings Adrian), but since that's the same rabbit hole, I think I have to choose something else. I really like the Evolution 9 GMT from Grand Seiko, at least from the pictures and specs, but in reality it just doesn't give me the same feelings as the GMT Master II. The Rolex looks adventurous to me, but feels so supple on the wrist, while with the GS it's a bit of the other way around: looks kinda delicate, but feels a bit beefy on my wrist. I'd probably stick with the Seiko 5 here then, though that's even beefier (I've seen both of GMT Master II and the Seiko 5 GMT side-by-side). Oh, and I love the Nivada Grenchen.
