I think he IS trying to sound like Jeremy, because a lot of male singers have that sort of “sound” to their voice, and that type of singing is what is popular and being used in most musicals today and is what attracts audiences. this is just what I think, but either way if he does sound like Jeremy or not this cover is incredible and takes a lot of talent to do.
