Jake: Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Thule ProRide XT Roof Mounted Bike Rack. This is going to help you to get your bike to and from the trail, by hauling it on your roof. This bike rack is going to give you that solution that you need to get your bike to and from the trail, if you're often just hauling one bike. You may not want a hitch mounted bike rack, because there's not a lot out there for one bike. It's also going to give you that full rear hatch access, when the bike is loaded, which a lot of hitch mounted bike racks won't allow you to do.
You're also going to be able to use, because of its slim design, you're going to be able to use the rest of your roof rack with your bike pushed to one side or the other for other roof mounted accessories. This bike rack is going to hold your bike in a unique way. It's going to have a clamping hook that's going to clamp down on your down tube with the help of this handle. When tightened down all the way, your bike's not going to go anywhere. It's also going to have two extra points of security, a wheel strap on the front and rear wheel to ensure the safety of your bike when headed down the road. The wheel straps are going to have this rubberized sleeve to protect your wheel from any scratches or abrasions.
And it's also going to have a ratcheting strap, so that it ensures that your wheel will stay planted on this base. The wheel cradles are going to adjust front to back very easily to accommodate for different wheelbases on your bikes. A hook that goes around our down tube is going to have an impressive rubberized grip system on the inside on the top and bottom so to ensure a nice tight hold on your down tube but not to damage your bike. There's going to be two different ways to attach this bike rack to your roof rack. The way we have it now is that we slid it into our T-track, which is going to give us a good opportunity to really strap it down to our roof. We don't have to worry about anybody stealing it, when our roof rack is secure.
You can also choose the hook orientation where you can clamp it on to the bottom of your roof rack like so, and this is going to give you the option to use it with those round bars and square bars and any other bars you may not want to mess with the T-track accessories. Now, if you're wanting more security for your bike and your bike rack, you can pick up a set of Thule lock cores to replace this plastic cap. You'll have a lock here on your cylinder so that your hook can not be released, so your bike is safe. And then you can also lock this clamp down to the bike rack, so that it can't go anywhere. The bike rack is going to have an aluminum construction with a black powder coat finish to help last over time. It's also going to have a weight capacity of 44 pounds for your bike.
So you're going to be able to fit a wide variety of bikes with the three inch wide channel. Now, if you ride fed bikes, Thule does make a ProRide that's designed to work for this, just see etrailer.Let's go ahead and show you how easy it is to get your bike removed. We want to make sure you have one hand on your bike, release the wheel straps, push them up through. And with one hand on your bike, you can push on the release lever, that's going to release our clamp. Now with our clamp release, we can roll our bike back and lift it off. Now to get it in a stored position, I always like to replace my straps, so they're not flopping around, fold my center mass down and replace the other strap. Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's go ahead and show you how easy it is to get put together and get it on our roof. To get our bike rack in place, we need to first decide what way we're going to use to attach it. So with this kit, you're going to get the option to use the clamp-on style or the T-track style. We're going to be using the T-track style because it's going to be a little bit easier to show you guys. We'll start by taking our short T-track bolt, slide it up into the slot here on our plate, and we'll take the shortest of the three handles, you have to move this up and out of your way and thread it on. Now you want to leave it pretty loose so that you can get it in place on your roof. You'll notice that the two larger clamp handles that you have one will have an opening for you to insert a lock or a cap, that one is going to go on the side with the slot for your lock to go down into so you can lock th
