Nitin Gadkari is only the person who accepts if he is wrong, that's makes them special. There are many politician's but he is only the one who understands people and work for people . We are proud that he is from our city and who thinks for the whole country.

It's quite surprising that this person contains the knowledge not even but in-depth knowledge as he talked about geology factors. No other minister can't contain such knowledge. He was born for infrastructure.

Himalaya was much younger mountain chain compared to western ghats.
And its a very difficult task to maintain roads in Himalaya range, specially the lower sides which is mostly rubble.
Construction and blasts for raods making do disturb the soil. Vibrations disturb the bonding of soil and stone
Difficult thing to make road on preserve nature as well.
The minister is honest and hard working. The most recognised minister in Modi government..
Only solution is to make road 2 meter more wide on mountain side and plant trees there. In Himalayas trees can easily grow because it contains soils
He is a sensible and sincere person. What he said about using dredging of rivers to deepen them might be doubtful solution to me ..
because these rivers brings lot of soil/mud with them and very quickly they will fill it back.
Instead they must build boundaries/ barrier to orient / direct the flow of river and put a law/regulation in place by defining a safe distance from the river for any construction to take place.
Also those slopes next to road must be secured by means of wire mesh, shotcrete and rock bolts.
Best solution is tunnel without destabilising slopes but that’s expensive

I am from distt Mandi. The Shivalik ranges of Himalayas, where Chd Shimla and Chd Manali roads go through, are the weakest in nature. 8th std geography text books state this. The issue is unnecessary converting good double lanes to four lanes. The focus should have been on railway. It would have spared us from the burden of humongous number of vehicles that come and are impossible to manage.

Very nicly explained by Gadkari ji.. and here the state political leadership has surprising reasons ....instead of river channelization/ mining they have closed the stone crusher units..which is causing huge financial loss to state and in unfortunatly in case of heavy rain the flash flood will again crate havoc..in the area.

I hope Nitin Gadkari sir team may consider my suggestion of bamboo plantation on both side of roads in hilly area. Bamboo plant firmly grip tha rocky soil of hills this would greatly help in this regard

NH-55, 263 km road is not completed since 2016 which was to be completed by September 2019.
Firstly, there is a typo.. it isn’t Himanchal but Himachal Pradesh, though it means the same and secondly, so happy that for once a minister in power admitted the mistake. How well he has explained everything.

totally agree with Nitin ji. government should also govern the main factors like encroachment and over population in these sensitive areas witch can directly affect the lifes of many. and that can only be happen if all the deapartments work under one single committee which can deal with the destruction by these disasters.

Very good interview with Nitin Gadkari ji. Constructing houses on the banks of rivers certainly invites disaster when it rains heavily. We have to respect nature & cannot brutally change courses of rivers by constructing high rises as is seen in recent land slides in Himachal Pradesh etc. Moreover expanding highways from 2 lanes to 4 lanes in places like HP & Uttarkhand also needs rethinking. Moreover construction of Hydro Electric power stations on eco-sensitive zones around Himalayas is proving to be disastrous as is seen in last 5 to 6 years and last but not the least human greed is also equally responsible for such natural disasters like constructing high rises violating environmental norms through bribing sanctioning authorities and over tourism is also becoming a major contributory factor in such natural disasters which needs to be checked through penal provisions as is implemented these in some countries like Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway etc ...

Kudos to Openness of Nitin Sir for accepting the failures and willingness to learn from those. Almighty will always give solutions to those who are seeking. I feel their is purpose of every land specially Himalayas. We must cater to its sole purpose what that land has to offer others. Few Reasons that may be behind this destruction. No collective work to conserve the natural resources gifted to us. Abuse of natural resources, Unnecessary consumption by public, unscientific work by contractors, non-monitoring or less monitoring of contractual work or Overproduction or Exploitation of Natural Resources. Lack of Systems to control these issues.

Same disaster happened in Sikkim in recent days... Siliguri to Gangtok road is gone now..
Water flow in Sikkim was way more then in Himachal rain because in Sikkim it was glacial burst. Whole stream of Lake came down. It was way more furious
