Bruh there are parts of this video that look like a damn videogame it looks so beautiful. The thumbnail HAS to be from a game cause if it isnt then idk what to think.
Thanks, it's from my own video game that's currently under development. I used footage from it in a number of my videos. More details can be seen in this video th-cam.com/video/lDAmEGDY4TY/w-d-xo.html, and the details are in the description of that video.
I've had pretty good experiences with the Cold Steel swords I own. I look forward to a review of the Competition Cutting Sword, I've been interested in that one.
I really love this sword all of the points you made are spot on, for a budget friendly sword it has the quality a high end sword. Very happy with this purchase.
Ronin Katana has an even better version of the Italian long sword in my opinion ; as well and the RKE03 which seems to be superior to the CS competition cutting sword adressing the distal taper issue you refrenced . This Cold Steel ILS is definitely great and similar quality to value ratio can be found in Cold Steel's Hand and a Half Sword as well . I enjoy your reviews and cutting demomstrations very much.... Thank you!
I noticed you had some footage from the cs hand and a half in there, but no review on this channel. Are you planning a review for it in the near future? I've been planning to buy a hand and a half lately and have been looking around but haven't seen a detailed review of that particular one anywhere. Ps.- just discovered your channel while looking for a review on a darksword armory longsword and really like the format, detail, and overall way you do these reviews. Keep up the great work!
Hi Chase! Thanks for the appreciation! I don't own a CS hand-and-a-half sword but I did include some footage of the CS Competition Cutting sword, which was released in 2020. I'm editing the review footage now of that sword and hopefully I can release it in April or May. I also have a review comparing the CS MAA messer to a Landsknecht Emporium Gustav messer coming up. I haven't handled the CS hand-and-a-half but according to a local HEMA club's instructors (Blood and Iron, which has a great channel, and also has been featured a lot on Skallagrim's channel), it is a great sword for the price. It seems to be similar to the Italian longsword, but having a slightly more compact size but has a slightly broader profile. If you can find it for a reasonable price (let's say below $300) from a reputable vendor, it's definitely a go. Keep in mind that CS has quality control issues, and some shady characters get hold of their factory-second swords and sell on the Internet for the price of a regular product. So be very careful.
@@FortuneFavoursTheBold ah okay, my mistake then. I'm definitely looking forward to the review on their competition cutting sword! That was another on my list of future buys. Their video of it paints it in a very nice light, I'm hoping that reality reflects their initial video. If so, that sword may jump to the top of my list. I'll be sure to check out their channel, I never bothered checking for it. I didn't really get into European blades until recently so I'm playing catchup, watching reviews and advice from years ago in a lot of cases.
@@TheBlacksmith5 Hopefully my upcoming review and help you with the decision making process. It's an interesting but flawed offering, the CS Competition Cutter is.
@@FortuneFavoursTheBold hopefully! I've heard some heresy about it that paints it in a bad light, but have seen any video review yet. So ill hold my judgement till I do.
Do you think the Maa version would be any different? I saw on amazon that it is over $40 cheaper but I also saw that it had reviews that said that the Maa version broke for a few people in 2017(I'd assume that I could return it if it broke on light cuts after recording it) so I wonder if there's any difference since the regular polished version had no breakage complaints
From what I've heard, the MAA version is done by a different maker. Other than the different finish, the MAA version tends to be worse in balance, and have a secondary bevel, as opposed to having one single bevel on the regular version. So performance wise, expect worse. The MAA line has two products that do not have a regular version--the arming sword and the messer, these two are different from the rest of the MAA line, as they are designed by Dave Baker of Forged in Fire fame, and they seem better made. So I can't really speak for the quality of the MAA line of the Italian longsword, but they generally are not up to par with the regular version. I checked Amazon a few days ago, and the regular Italian longsword was on sale for $250 or so, not sure if it's still the case.
Me! I'm kidding. It's the player character from a video game I'm developing, Fortune Favours the Bold. Players can equip their characters however they want.
I mentioned in the video a few times that I got this sword off Amazon, which offers free shipping, and the sword costs $280 when I purchased it. Great deal, and without any issue.
I'm curious why he shouldn't review a sword regardless of where he bought it from? Most people don't buy swords directly from the manufacturer if it can be got cheaper elsewhere, with potentially better customer service.
@@TheBlacksmith5 Yeah there are a few brands having issues with getting rid of their factory second swords, and some people are known to get hold of these swords that didn't pass the QC or got returned, and sell them for regular prices. These brands have suffered a lot in terms of reputation because of these incidents. There's some truth in the methodology of only buying from the original brand (not manufacturer, mind you, CS don't make swords themselves, they contract forges in China and India for making swords that they design). However, I do think buying from Kult of Athena and Amazon Inc. directly also have some assurance, but also have better price tags.
@@FortuneFavoursTheBold I suppose there is some truth in that. I hadn't really thought of it that way. I just tend to stick with Kult of Athena unless I know the quality control of a company is particularly good and then only if I cant find it for a better price from a trusted retailer
The great thing about buying from Amazon is that if you are not satisfied with the purchase, you can literally get your money back minutes after returning the item to a UPS drop off location, so buyer remorse is minimized.

Yes, I will soon get to that one. I have all the footage I need already shot this summer. Just need to put them together in a cohesive way =D
I look forward to it!
Great responses. Your replies to others were very informative. The effort is appreciated.
Thanks a lot. Glad to be of help =)
I just recently purchased this sword, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for your input
Let me know how you like it.

The profile of this sword's blade worries me a little bit, thanks for explaining the historicity behind it! Interest sword from CS.
Yeah, it's not the typical tapering strategy from most XVa type blade.
great sword
Thanks!

@@FortuneFavoursTheBold the historical one you mentioned?
@@baphomet418 Yes, it's based on 15th century English history.
What is the sword at 3:50?
It's the "Mother of Dragon" short sword by Darksword Armory. It's based on an original housed at Wallace Collection.
simply put don't do a review on a sword not sold by original manufacturer... I assume you did purchase this from cold steel right ?
