My friend literally had that castle with the ghost. We used to play with it a lot :D I had one of the other castles - I don't recall what it was called, but it had like lion knights and the middle of the molded bit was a pit. I also remember a pirate ship at one point and vaguely something about the weird blue space sets with the parabolas when I was like... three years old - I also had a bit of the mock Lego from before the lawsuits. Being Danish its kind of fun to see Lego be this huge thing - I live like an hour away from Billund where it all began :P

I have Black Knight's Castle.... albeit very opened, box not so good, instructions barely holding together, and the pieces probably incomplete and in a huge packing box with all my Lego (castle, pirates, space, and city). It was certainly my favourite castle Lego set, and second favourite set overall - only second to my Barracuda pirate ship (still built and on display to this day). The ghost mini figures weren't that rare - I had 3 of them from different kits. One of them being a small box (6034 Black Monarchs Ghost). But the Black Knight's castle far exceeded the 80s castle kits I had inherited from my older brother. But I did like the old castles that had hinges pieces and opened up so you could play about in it. The Dark Knight Castle was a lot more cramped but was such a great display set.
As for the UNICEF truck - I never had one but I grew up in Canada and remember our local library had it behind glass. I liked it so much as a kid I copied the design as best as I could for a support truck for my fire truck.
My neighbour had the steam engine kit as well as two of the monorail kits (6990 Space Track and 6399 Airport Shuttle). I always thought they were cool but a bit fragile. He also had a really cool NASA shuttle launch kit (1682).
God, Lego, Sega, and Nintendo were big parts of my childhood...

Still waiting for my Technoc 8110 set to skyrocket in value. I bought it with my son when we visited Legoland Orlando and I built it, sadly my son’s friend mistook the box for the 8110 as a pizza box and threw it out. But the U400 now sits on a shelf in my son’s room, waiting for her price and value to increase and then we might sell it. But I’ve loved Unmogs since I first saw one as a kid on a TV show in the 80’s, so parting with my 8110 might be rather difficult!

An investment and the rarity. As with sports cards, kids were the main demographic, so when the item was purchased, It was almost certainly opened and played with, rendering sealed one extremely rare. Added on to the rarity, the more expensive the set, the less likely parents were to buy it as a present, added with the previous condition, you could imagine how scarce sealed boxes (especially given the years) truly are. Rarity + renown brand = lucrative collectibles

I have a black castle set from my childhood. It's not as new as the one in this video. It's from the 80s. I wonder how much it's worth ? It doesn't have any landscaping like on the hill. it's on a flat Lego board and it has two wings that opened up in the back. it is so you can see the interior.

Its a real shame you don't seem to know the real name of the #6086 when it was released in 1992. The Bedford fire engine was available in couple of other sets and was available in single boxes.
Of the sets on this list, I already have all the ones I want. And with only exemption of #375 I got all of them originally new, so I never paid any where close to a crazy prices for any of them.

god damn, I had so much old school lego from 70's and 80's when I grew up in the 90's. I had all manuals in mint condition stored safely. Then my dad decided I couldn't play with lego no more and he threw it all away. I think I'd have some valuable gems today, specially from the 1970's space and train sets, if it werent for him.

That's why they are so valuable because everyone used them up. I had a bunch of them too and still have some but to save it in the box unopened for decades is where the real money is

Its weird to buy old sets New & Sealed. For a fraction you will get the same set in very good used condition. And if you dont wanna open it anyway and just wanna admire the box, just buy a used box in good condition, will cost you even less.

Many collectors buy 2 collections - one opened collection and one unopened collection. In the most collectable things the unopened is always worth much more money than the opened one. But if someone does not care how expensive something is then just the opened collection is fine (and much cheaper). :)

@@pi172 I mean its a certain form of investment. Its not too dissimilar to collecting valuable sports cards, cars or paintings. Odd when thinking of it as a toy, but in retrospect it is essentially the same premise; practically useless to collect, but maintains its value if not increasing it.

Those sets... Are worth that price sealed on their boxes, or could I sell them assembled?
I've still got all the pieces for the Black Knights Castle, just they're all stored away. The box is looooong gone, but the manual is intact.

    • @justinh2150
      @justinh2150 2 ปีที่แล้ว

These prices are all for sealed sets, as those are always the most expensive resold lego sets will be. However, you could sell individual pieces, such as the characters and special pieces, and still likely find enormous profit.
The whole thing could be sold in one shot for a few hundred, but if you take the time to individually sell the valuable pieces you could likely make a few more, just gotta do research and have patience.

I'm 99% sure I had the black knight set as a child, I have a few vivid memories of standing in the corner of my room with the ghost cupped in my hands trying to get it as dark as possible so I could see it glow. being a young child and not knowing the value of money me and my brother would just toss all the new pieces we got from a set into our big Lego box instead of actually making most sets. i probably threw away 4k as like a 6-year-old and was none the wiser, can't believe it. ( i remember specifically a black window piece and the horses too but not much else after that
