Located at 12th and Madison on the National Mall from 3/20/24 to 4/3/24, the public can view a mockup of WMATA's future 8000 series railcars, featuring open gangways between paired cars and a whole host of other features. Personally, I'm not a fan of the location of the floor-to-ceiling stanchion being in the middle of the car where the mid-car doors are, as I think that that would lead to people crowding the doorway area and hindering passenger flow towards the inter-door areas of the cars. Enjoy =)

I saw this myself when visiting Washington DC! It felt very well to be able to give my own personal opinion on the new trains, even though I don’t live in Washington DC.
That looks..... AWESOME!!!!!!
I hope the traction motors on these things are pleasant
Hopefully they use actual Hitachi propulsion instead of the AnsaldoBread systems
and the traction inverters too because without that there is no pleasant sound
@@Blank00Considering they are built by Hitachi Rail in Hagerstown, MD, and not by Hitachi Rail Italy (AnsaldoBreda) in Miami, Florida, they will probably use actual Hitachi inverters and motors.
It would also be cool if they used Mitsubishi inverters (as found on the CRRC Qingdao Sifang railcars in use on the MBTA and on the Kawasaki M9s on the Long Island Railroad).
Looks amazing, can’t wait to see them in service
I like the design, hitachi did well and I’m happy that the DC Metro will finally get new fleet!
Finally a decent report on this which actually shows everything without meaningless blather and opinions.
I’m traveling to DC on Friday and hope to see them while I’m there.
Awesome looking train
What’s with the five nights at Freddy’s music 😂😂
Wait where do you hear it?
Lord…the song is called JUMP it was just used in FNAFSB….
jump not only from FNAF come on now😭
Yes!
It looks so much nicer than the new r211s we have in New York, which cramped seating tiny windows just for some bigger door space. I want bigger windows with window seating. Why couldn't the r211 have a seating plan like this. This subway car is more sleeker with detail.
No offense but getting more people on and off the train quicker is more important than having cool seats, and I understand why the MTA went with it even if there might’ve been more they could’ve done.
Ooh Brand New Company
I recall doing all this kind of fun stuff in DC, until it became crime haven.
Flush glass is a nice surprise. Missing are the dark accents on windows and doors in the mockup drawings
I hope this railcar will be used soon
they rlly playin van halen
Nice looking new WMATA Metro train. It's weird that they put the open gangways in the center of each train car instead of in between the train cars.
It’s a “mockup” design, it’s shortened down to demonstrate the gangway expected on the train. It does look like the train has open gangway inside the cars lol
Looks like the ones they use on Miami Metro Rail
ooh, nice, a new model for maybe the late decade
Agreed and, they should stick with tradition and continue the classic style seating layout for a Metro system train, not subway.
Do you think they will use actual Hitachi technology or will they use systems that Hitachi inherited from AnsaldoBread?
@FanRailer I remember seeing you I think i saw your camera
Thank goodness more US trains are getting open gangway cars, although having the cars in pairs kinda makes this not worth it.
Could they at least manage a little padding on those seats haha.
If there will be open gangways, then why is there a 3rd car end design shown at 1:56? Clearly that’s not a cab
Because the cars will still be married pairs, like the 7000 series cars are.
8000 series? What cars are these replacing?
2000s and 3000s
is very amazing, this is the new trains for metro
How long will this display be here?
Read the description
@@FanRailer Oops, sorry. Thanks.
R211 long lost twin
Kinda, but these will feature aluminum bodies, not stainless steel
But this is way much better looking inside and out compared to the plain r2ll. I like how they still actually have windows to see out of and beautiful interior, especially the seating seat up.
I was on that model on March 20th 2024 as well where I gave the attending Metro members the idea about having both Metro and IMAX film a coming-of-age biographical documentary movie, Entitled: "IMAX: Metro", with reenactments of everything that Metro did to create history from the very beginning all the way towards today with Keanu Reeves narrating.
#IMAXMetro
#KeanuReeves
Do you think the 8000 series would not just replace the 2000, 3000 and 6000 series, but also the 7000 series? they did have some problems with the 7000 series
No, there are not enough cars in the total contract to do that. The 7Ks are here to stay for at least another 15-20 years.
@@FanRailerwhat do you think is the probability that the 6ks get retired?
@@FanRailerdo you think the 7ks will get refurbished so that seats, chimes, automated announcements, and display graphics match the 8ks?
@@FanRailer let’s hope they don’t become more problematic
Dude the 6k won't be getting retired anytime soon@@Blank00
Faaan 😃
blocking the RFW i dont like that.
Please fix it first
Hitachi, Make Some Subway 🚇 & El' Cars for the Broad Street Sub & The Market-Frankford EL here in Philly.🚉🚄
I'm so ready for new rolling stock on our heavy rail subways here in Los Angeles. It's badly needed. 🥲
No lie about that, those poor cars are screaming for retirement. A few years back that was a very unpleasant surprise the state those cars were in. Could only be worse now...
