One thing I can say for sure. As a Liverpool fan, I will say that although Spurs lost, they did not give up after the score was 1-5 and continued to fight. And this is the most important thing
I actually think Liverpool took their foot off the gas, and got sloppy and complacent at 5-1. Spurs took advantage sure, but I think Liverpool had a lot to do with that period, because as soon as it became 5-3, Liverpool got serious again. Slot referred to this in his press conference after.
The issue with players like Kulusevski, Bissouma, Sarr, and Porro is their decision-making on and off the ball. They either refuse to pass when they should or hesitate when the moment demands quick action. The fundamental problem lies in the lack of preemptive judgment-knowing how to receive the ball and where to pass before the ball even arrives. Instead, each player seems fixated on “I must score, I must be the hero today.” Sure, they might manage to score a goal here and there, but the team still loses. Goals need to come at the right moments to win games. What’s the point of scoring three goals when the team is already losing 5-0? In critical situations, quick and decisive passing is essential. I don’t believe this is simply about individual skill or physical ability. The real issue is that the players are too focused on their personal stats, and if the coach allows this mindset to persist unchecked, the responsibility ultimately falls on the manager. A manager’s job is to ensure the team operates as a cohesive unit, not a collection of self-centered individuals. If that’s not happening, it reflects directly on the manager’s ability and tactical competence.
