A tip for learning/finding balance for Horseback... Ride bareback for a bit, move WITH your horse. Gain a feel for their movements, work on balancing in a walk, then when youre stable move to a trot, and after you're balanced in a trot without bouncing everywhere, move into a Lope. If you can get up to a lope bareback, safe bet that you've found your balance point.
This helps me so so much! I am in an intermediate class and I'm currently trying to move up to the barrel class. My instructors told me I have to start working on body awareness with not locking my arms and tense up. I'm trying to get better at balance and this helped me understand so much! Thank you so so much!
This is incredible. I’m heading over to the barn, wanting to work on my balance. Knowing that barrel racers have some of the best, I searched for balance when barrel racing and found this. Hardly anything has consistently helped me keep my balance. I’ll be working on all of this, especially without stirrups! I became so focused on keeping my heels down at one point that I didn’t think about anything else balance-wise. Maybe not relying on them at all will help me a whole lot more. Thank you for this!
Been riding a long time, though very infrequently. I think I balance OK at a walk but have been unable to progress to trot. Hopefully these suggestions will help.
This is super informative! I'd love to do barrel racing but there is no where near me that does it (I'm in the UK) but it's interesting how some of the principals are the same to how we are taught to ride over here. More people should ride with their eyes closed. I sometimes do this as I am super unbalanced (just had a baby so my muscles are all over the place)as it helps to refocus and pinpoint where to fine tune my position.
Horse Hacks20 Glad you enjoyed! I have had a lot of people tell me that they live in the UK and don’t have anywhere near that does it🤷🏼♀️ Congratulations on the new baby!
@@barrelracingtraininghelp thank you! There is definitely a gap in the market over here. It's something I really want to try as it's quite high adrenaline and looks so fun. I'm not really into show jumping competitions or dressage 🙈
I see this video is old, but hoping to get a response to help me understand. You said without stirrups you need to ride the back of the horse instead of the front. What does this mean?
I don’t know if you ride English or western but it could be one stirrup shorter then the other. Or my best guess it could be like I used to do where u put all ur weight into one stirrup. Make sure ur horse is on the correct lead too
@@mylabailey6663 my saddle is a size big but I got it like that because I’m only 13 but I’ve learned to balance and sit in my saddle but thanks for the advice!
@@kayleighmae7327 if u sing it takes your mind off of what’s going on while on the horse it will relax your body then if your not tense your horse will calm as well. I tell my kids to sing Happy Birthday or they can tell the pony/horse their whole life story. Even talking helps relax your body.

Like to see a western rider not saying to sit back like a cutter. Dressage, balance… love it!
I agree ! That's the best way for barrel racers to have Balance, but cutters have to sit back ❤

Me listening confused- I was trained bare back and I thought thats how everyone rode-
First comment! Love your videos
AwesomeJeslagirl Thank you!! So glad you are enjoying!
Does it help that i learned to ride bare back first?
I don’t really recommend riding bareback a whole lot just cause it’s hard on them. I would recommend just dropping your stirrups.
@@barrelracingtraininghelp ok. Thank you.
