let's make little mouse characters while I have an anxiety attack - a calming craft & chat art vlog

  • Hello everyone,
    Today's make-along is a little different and is definitely NOT going to be for everyone - this is long form in extreme haha :) and I filmed it and kept it long this way because I think it's a good form for specific times or needs, such as when you are having an anxiety attach like I am in this video, or when you're needing company or wishing you could have a cup of tea with a friend.. or maybe you just want something on in the background while you garden or craft or do any kind of work.
    I don't consider this a tutorial, although you can certainly learn some things about spun cotton and perhaps see some new techniques. This is a process video that is intended to inspire your own original creative projects and efforts and it might even be enjoyable to some folks who will never try spun cotton at all but just enjoy watching or listening to someone make things.
    If you're looking for a quicker, easier way to dress your little figures, I am working on a MUCH shorter video where we make very simple garments from several different materials and I hope to release that in the next few weeks.
    As always, I welcome your well-intentioned comments and constructive criticisms as well as suggestions or questions.
    Thank you so much for your kindness and support -
    Happy making to you -
    xo,
    Rosanna

    Ok, young lady. This is a therapist talking to you. You are taking the negative comments to heart. STOP IT, JUST STOP IT. You are a good person and a fantastic artist and let no one tell you differently. No one has the right to degrade you...a helpful comment? Yes, but that is all. I LOVE your calm voice and instruction and find it relaxing, which is a benefit of crafting! Is it not? People who are in such a hurry and negative state can fast forward or go to other resources. Do not take any of these nay-sayers to heart. (YES, you have been taking those comments to heart!) I love your mice videos. I am retired and of Volga River German heritage and teach spun cotton locally. You have taught me so much and I appreciate you. Hugs from Dakotagal... and your phone camera is just fine; you don't need an expensive replacement!

      I wholeheartedly agree.
      I am a creative person who has been completely and utterly stuck in a place where everything is boring me, even all my previous art that brought me great joy so finding your channel today was so wonderful..li am gobbling up your videos, you are so inspiring and have given me so much joy today and I fully expect to watch every single one of your videos over the coming weeks. For the first time in many months I feel hope that I shall regain my creativity and that’s because of you Rosanna.x

    i have health anxiety since a tumor took up residence in my lung. it is hard to not be anxious in today’s world and you are def not alone. i think anxiety and depression are a modern pandemic. i donated to your sweet sanctuary a few weeks ago. i couldn’t afford much, but wanted to help in a tiny way. day by day, step by step, we will find the light again.

      Dear Kathi, thank you so much for your message and for your donation! Maybe it seems smaller than you'd like but it feeds our chickens for a week and that's not a small thing ❤ I can understand how after actually experiencing something like a tumor in your lung, you would become hyper-aware and vigilant which feeds into constant anxiety. We're told to monitor ourselves so we can "catch things early" - a good idea but some of us take that too far... I feel for you and hope with time perhaps you will find more peace ❤

    Roseanne, health anxiety or hypochondriac is a legitimate disorder, just like OCD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, etc. Don't be ashamed about it. I have a few disorders myself, to include PTSD and my anxiety has been acting up overtime. I don't know if you are a Christian or not, but I have found that reading my Bible actually helps me. It.helps my mind focus on something else that's bigger than me. It's comforting to me. I'm actually able to calm down and slow my breathing down. Then I move on to something else to keep my mind busy, or it helps me to be able to sleep. Bible meditation and verse memorization is another something that can help, and of course prayer. But I am aware that not everyone is a believer. But anything that helps relax your thoughts and breathing can help. I hope you get to feeling better. Sending hugs.

I was able to talk thru so much my anxiety went down amazingly fast, like I was so surprised! Your voice is calming also and I could totally do this with you. Thank you so much. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent ❤️ as you are seeing so many of us have anxiety and health anxiety. I do too, and for many years. One of the things that helped me early on was to have affirmations to say that over time become more and more powerful. We need to connect with our subconscious which is the seat of anxiety and fear and harder to get to. My affirmation when I start feeling anxious is “peace, balance and harmony” over and over and it will stop my anxiety. Of course everyone is different. “Therapy in a nutshell” is an awesome TH-cam with many free strategies on anxiety. Art and exercise are great too. Thanks for sharing with us ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    If I start to feel anxiety creeping in I start singing silly, happy songs. I have a long list of bird songs that I can choose from. Anxiety is from fear. I stop and look at the situation and realize there is nothing to fear. The Bible talks about fear. There are enough scriptures for every day about fear. This tells me that throughout the ages people have had anxiety. I see that you focus on whatever is good, whatever is lovely and the positive things in life. There are sensitive or empathic people in this World. Embrace who you are. Depressed people commonly say they feel like they aren't going to make it. Don't focus on the future focus on the present. Your mice are wonderful. You are good at making videos and you have great teaching skills. Your voice is calming. Chamomile tea will help you to stay calm. Happy New Year.

    Rosanna, thank you so much for posting this video. I also have anxiety plus other health issues. It can be such a debilitating state but your video talking about it and working through your creative process was both courageous and helpful. The more we can talk about these things, others can be reassured that they are not alone. The migraines I experience cause anxiety because pain is our body’s way of telling us something is wrong which then starts the cascade effect of questioning what’s wrong with me…you are not alone. Anxiety can present in a myriad of different ways and levels but knowing what you are dealing with is definitely the biggest first step on that journey toward peace and hope. Thank you again for sharing this video…you helped me today and I know I can’t be alone seeing the other positive comments on here. I am a brand new subscriber and I’m excited to make a few mice to live in my mouse house. Cheers!

    • @Rosannamakes
      @Rosannamakes  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ohh, thank you for writing ❤ I know just what you mean, you get a migraine and you want to know why? What's "wrong" with my body that caused this? Everything must be examined.. it's tough because as you say, pain is a signal from the body that something isn't quite right, but oftentimes I know that the main thing that isn't right with me is my stress and anxiety. So it's a constant wrestle between writing symptoms off to anxiety and tension or wondering if this is the time something is really wrong... ugh. There's no way to reason myself out of it for me, I just have to get busy and distract if I can! I'm so glad this video helped.. I really believe being creative can be very healing and also that being creative together is a really beautiful way to connect. Hoping you're having a good day - or that tomorrow will be a better day! ❤

    Rosanna, your vlog ended up in my feed, and I am interested in learning how to make little mouse characters. Though when you described your disorder, I was grateful and appreciated learning about what you are experiencing. You are so articulate and this helps others to develop understanding and empathy. I have circadian rhythm disorder, which, in my case, means that my sleep patterns are not normal, to say the least. I have tried to change or even slightly adjust this so I can fit in with others' cycles of being awake during the day and sleeping at night, but I have not yet been successful. I have real guilt about this, so I understand that you would feel guilt, even though it's clearly not something you can control very well. I hope that you can try not to feel guilty, because guilt is the pits. To borrow from another's comment, you seem like such a sweet soul, and I wish you the best. The little mouse is going to be adorable. I will have to finish watching "tomorrow," and am looking forward to seeing the rest.

    • @Rosannamakes
      @Rosannamakes  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh thank you for writing! Your circadian rhythm disorder sounds very challenging and I'm sure it's isolating.. what you say about guilt is so true, it's the pits and it's completely unproductive and damaging. I'm so glad we can come together as a little creative community here, at any time of day or night from all over the world, and enjoy making little mice and chatting and sharing. Thank you for sharing your own challenge because I bet there will be others who read your comment and recognize themselves and feel less alone! ❤

    Yes, well acquainted with both Mrs Tittlemouse and Mrs Tiggywinkle. I've been fashioning my mouse after Mrs Tittlemouse. I had a figurine of her, just this size, when I was little and lost it playing in a stream. The water was shallow and clear and she just vanished. I was so upset, so upset that she crosses my mind from time to time. I've never made anything like this before and mine is turning out perfect! She just needs dressed. Thank you for helping me heal this little girl memory 💖 we all need our healthy escapisms. (I'm 34, by the way 😉 though I feel 24, or 74, or 8, depending on the minute 😅💕🐁) your videos are lovely

Although I can't stop the depressing thoughts, I CAN DIVERT my thoughts by becoming deeply involved in a project, hobby, research. Two. What an incredibly honest video. Life is irrational, so why shouldn’t we be? Anxiety is nothing to be embarrassed about, nor should you ever feel guilty about it. We all deal with our own thoughts, fears and emotions, whether they are considered “valid“ or not. I’m glad you have found things to help you through those times.
    Watching your videos you seem like a very genuine, kind and caring woman. You sound like someone I would definitely become friends with and yes I’m in my fifties! 😉 I too tend to be friends with people somewhat older than me.

    Hilda and Ludwig are adorable!! I took a couple of breaks when enjoying this fun video, but I think I missed how you did the pattern on Hilda’s dress?!? Was it a dot pattern with acrylic, painted when it was dry?

    • @Rosannamakes
      @Rosannamakes  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used some dark red-brown watercolor for the dot pattern and yes, after the background was dry or it will just bleed in.. gouache would work well too. I chose watercolor because I wanted it to soak in and look part of the dress instead of sitting on top if that makes sense, as acrylic might do. Although if you water acrylic down it would act similarly. I hope I haven't confused you!
