If you didn’t know Ronnie never wrote down any lyrics. He said if it wasn’t worth remembering it’s not worth singing. His approach to music was unmatched.

True story. My youngest son who is 21 and in college and suffers from High Anxiety and Depression, always worrying about what he’s going to do with his life to the point it make him physically ill . Just recently he was having an episode and I asked him to listen to this song and that this is what his Mom and me were trying to say to him. He says it really has helped calm him and listens to it often. Therapy for the soul !

"Forget your lust FOR the rich man's gold". Lust, Greed, Envy - 3 of the 7 deadlies.
Drama, when you said there is only 1 Sam Cooke and there is only 1 Lynyrd Skynyrd - you got me. Rock on.

They wrote this song after one of the band members' grandma passed away and another band member's mom passed away. This was a tribute to the advice both had gotten from those that passed away

Once again, check out Leon Wilkeson's bass lines in this. He's not just hanging out on the root notes; he's playing little melodic lines all over the place. It's a very active part, but it never detracts from the vocal. Simply brilliant.

FYI, Leon didn't play bass on first album. This is Ed King on bass on all tracks except on Tuesdays Gone and Mississippi Kid, which are done by Al Kooper.

When Shinedown sings this song, you can hear what it means to them. When Skynard sings it, you can see his momma sitting next to him on a porch swing sharing this wisdom. It doesn't diminish the Shinedown version, but nothing does to me what the Skynard version does.

Hello my friend, another great reaction, those of us that were lucky enough to be born and raised in Jax, Florida and still living 3 miles away from where the guys grew up on the westside brings their lyrics and songs to life. You can still drive by These historical places Ronnie lived and wrote about. back then they were just places and now of course they are historic landmarks that we love to this day. Going out to the cemetery and seeing where some band members are laid to rest and sitting on one of the benches you can hear the music thru the trees and almost feel the guys sitting down with you and thanking you for keeping their legacy alive and as Ronnie wrote these words if I leave here tomorrow will you still remember me. Well thanks to you and all of us fans for life Hell yeah we will never forget.

I do like Shinedown’s rendition, and I’ve seen them live, too. I’m partial to Skynyrd’s version though, because I grew up on it. “Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold. All that you need is in your soul.” Good advice, for sure. And I think you turned out just fine. Music unites and I’m so thankful for it and for people like you, who do these reactions. I just love them.

This song was actually written by Allen Collins about his mom, he was an only child and this is what she always told. Allen and Gary Rossington played it for Ronnie and Ronnie didn't like it but once Allen and Gary recorded it but didn't have piano in it Ronnie recorded and put the piano in it and the rest is history. I've been following Lynyrd Skynyrd for many years that's a true story.

What the world lost in that plane crash cannot be calculated. There is only one Lynyrd Skynyrd. 43 years ago, we lost the heart and soul of a band that can take its place alongside the likes of Led Zeppelin. Because when you hear Skynyrd, you have no doubt who the artists are. There will never be another like them.

They argued a bit about recording it , then Ronnie suggested he follow him outside, Ronnie walked Al to his car , opened the door and told him " I'll let you know when we're done" . Al said he took the hint and left. Ronnie was done talking.
