This cover is like a clinic for ensemble singing. and there is SO MUCH going on. I have watched other vocal coaches reactions (While waiting for yours, Julia!) And someone said that maybe there was too much going on, because our brain couldn't process all the different single voices when they were together. I beg to differ: this is EXACTLY what an armonizing chorus should sound like. It is the WALL of notes coming at you that impacts your brain, and if you are still able to detect the single individual voices, and makes you wanna delve deeper in it to understand what they are doing, to produce such an effective collective sound, it means it was perfect.
A few details might be worth noting:
The arrangement is Daryl's. He is proving time and time again that he is REALLY skilled. He is on a roll now. The arrangements for his covers of "Thinking out Loud", "Dive" and especially "Rude", show that he really knows how to arrange songs choosing the perfect balance between original material and personal touches.
All those who like me know the song well, were waiting for the " I I I I know, I I I I Know" moment and they KNEW we were lol.
Katrina, in my opinion, is here at her best. She performs with the perfect balance of all her registers. Never giving you the impression of "trying too hard".
And... the boys. Man, their intro chorus, and the way the lay the "carpet" of sound upon which the rest of the song runs is just perfect. Khel and Bugoy's short runs at the beginning sound perfect to be analised, studied and replicated ;)
The ad-libs could have proven the downfall of this cover, if any of them tried too hard, but the taste and execution was SPOT ON.
For all of you guys who like me, enjoy trying to armonize singing along and are curious about the boys' starting chorus, here it is:

Antonio M. speaking of Daryl's arranging skills, I like what he did with his new collab with Jay R (BAKIT PA BA / KABILANG DAKO). He did not reuse the instrumentals of Jay R's original songs and just join stanzas together like two disjointed songs. He wove the melodies together and made it sound like a continuing story. And kabilang dako had a funkier vibe too.

He has plenty of other songs with very good number of viewes like "Weak" (30Million), and "Sisqo Incomplete" (19Million). His original song "Bakit Na Ikaw" has 103 MILLION VIEWS;
And next is hurricane Katrina Velarde whose live performances you must experience to complete your lifetime. On TH-cam, her cover of "Go The Distance" by Michael Bolton from the Disney movie Hercules will blow your mind.
Second guy is Bugoy Drilon, a reggae and R&B artist who was invited by Matisyahu to join him and sing in his New York City concert after watching him sing "One Day" (94Million) on TH-cam;
And finally, there's the phenomenal Daryl Ong, the King of Riffs and Runs in the Philippines, and you must watch his TH-cam cover of "You Are The Reason" with Morissette Amon that now has 18Million views.
