Thanks Karl! I try hard but seems I spend a lot of time not getting much done.

Wow!! I don’t blame you Randy. I love FEs myself. Our ‘69 Ford Explorer has a 360 and our ‘59 Fairlane has a 352. I personally love the sound of an FE. The ‘69 Explorer my dad bought brand new, I’m not going crazy with it. It will stay original with the exception of the stance. I do plan on lowering it but I’m definitely keeping the FE in it. As far as the Fairlane goes, I want my wife and I to do road trips in it and I want it to be something that she can just get in and drive if she feels like it. (She used to be a mechanic so I don’t fear her driving anything at all.) I originally wanted to just update the 352 to a hyd roller and direct injection system. I also wanted to have a renowned local transmission guy build an AOD for me (yes, I’ll need the $1,200 adapter plate). I thought about a GV unit too for adding on to the AOD but… The final drive is 0.66/0.67 and a GV would bring it to 0.55. Doesn’t seem like much but I found an RPM calculator on line and it does make a huge difference. 80mph at 2,000rpms. But by the time you invest all that money you could do a 5.0 Coyote and have all of the running gear to go with it. I love the motors, don’t get me wrong, but it seems like a ford equivalent to an LS swap. As we’ve talked before, Randy, I toyed with the idea of an EcoBoost swap for quite a while, it would just have to be super quiet and what fun is that. I’m too partial to the old school V8s. Another engine I thought about is a 408/427W. It also needs to look good or look at home under the tilt nose hood. Lol. Anyone have thoughts, opinions, or experiences?

JP, Since I currently have so many 1965-66 trucks and don't want them all the same I currently have 3 '66 Trucks with FE power, 2 trucks with FT power and 2 trucks with EcoBoost power. I had a 3rd 3.5 Project a 1965 N7000 going on a 2018 F150 chassis with full electronics but old age has really set in so I sold the 3.5 10R80 combo this past friday. I stil have the N7000 plus chassis but no clue where that project will go. I had a 2.0 crate engine also but it's gone now too. I still have the 3.0 FWD drivetrain for another '66 but it is so many projects down I would sell that entire deal cheap. I really want to retire and take up a different type of hobby after doing this for 53yrs now and sold one to start the next never learning how to make a $$.

As far as your other projects the 408/427w would end up being big bucks in the end. I have another '66 Truck project to build a clone of the one my dad bought new. It has taken 12 yrs just to gather all the parts to get started. I have a fresh complete 393 FE on the engine stand with some high end machine work with a custom piston with current technology pistons and ring pack, of course zero deck, squared deck and all the good machine work. I am building this as a very low RPM FE and also a MPG FE if there is such a thing. 9.0 Compression, custom cam, C6 with custom converter and a new GV OD. The goal is to make the stock 352 208hp to tire which looks promising Power Idle to 4000 rpm peak HP. This I also have a small fortune invested and will cost easy double what a late model engine swap would be. If I were to do it over it would probably be the 7.3 Godzilla 10R140 combo. I have ZERO plans for any new projects that will have a FE or any other engine that came from factory with a carb. New stuff will be late model maybe 5yrs old tops with very low miles or new crate type engine. Right now I highly doubt I will do any new projects ever just finish what I currently have. That should take me to at least 300 yrs old at the rate I get them done.

@@randysrestoration I value your opinion greatly. And I’m sorry that you’ve found yourself advanced in your years. Old age is one of the most unfair things we have to deal with as humans. This is not the forum to start a religious topic so I’ll leave it at that. I figured a stroked 351 (408/427W) would be a pretty penny. I’ve seen them (and heard them) in other builds on TH-cam. I do love the old school and am disappointed I missed that generation but I’d like to help keep it alive and my love for the old original stuff to rub off on other people. I think you and I have talked about the Godzilla before. It’s a great machine with a lot of potential but I feel like aftermarket hasn’t caught up yet. I think CCW(?) here on TH-cam has a Godzilla Foxbody that’s pretty cool to watch. Not sure if you’ve seen it. I’m not against the Godzilla at all. I keep circling back to an FE power plant or Godzilla. One and a while I’ll look up 2017 and later F250/F350 wrecked to see how much I can score one for to have all the computer components with it.
However, I absolutely love the concept of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I’d love to do an FE and have it look like a 352 on the outside but something else inside. Granted there would be no way to hide the fuel rail for a direct injection unless you think Holleys TBI Sniper is a good system.
What do you think about a built AOD? I have heard the case can handle the torque of an FE.
Also, I saw a really cool video of a ‘61/‘62 Starliner with a 360hp 352FE in it. That motor is gorgeous. They said its rare that the horsepower exceeded the displacement. I’ll post it below here if you don’t mind. I think you’ll like it, unless you’ve already seen it.
Thank you so much for your input. I love it when generation gaps are bridged when it comes up knowledge. I don’t mind sharing what I know, although it might be minimal since I’m only 40. Lol. I’ve met many hot rodders that are tight lipped about what they know. 🙄
