They're talking about 60 years of the BBC in 1996, suggesting the BBC began in 1936. But last year in 2022 we had "100 years of BBC". That maths is 14 years adrift.
They are talking about 60 years of television broadcasts on the BBC, which began before WW II - surprisingly enough about fourteen years after regular radio broadcasts began. Had it been much earlier you would probably be being told it was something Edison came up with....
I don't know what Ian Hislop realizes or doesn't, but Americans in general would deny, deny, deny that their Halloween came to them by way of any Irish tradition. But then, that's Americans for you.
Strictly speaking Halloween is a christian festival, so not Irish. The predecessor to it may have been Celtic in origin (Walpurgis night?), but Halloween is a christian festival. I might be wrong, though.😀
Vincent Hannah, the man who played his own great great great great (etc) grandfather in 'Blackadder the Third'!
That's probably about right, the usual calculation is 25 years to the generation.

Fergie's comment about a lamp and a forest was a Narnia reference.
It was that child like innocence that first attracted Prince Andrew to her.
