This was easily my most beloved villain toy in childhood. Coming from the era of Mego superheroes, Big Jims, GI Joe, Johnny West, and Captain Action, the Kenner line for Six Mill was a nice departure. The play value was endless thanks to all the gadgetry built into all these figures. Maskatron was the ultimate example of that. Whats funny though is I loved the Steve Austin mask so much Maskatron had to sometimes perform double duty as both villian and Steve Austin himself when I put him in the astronaut suit. As a kid it made sense for that look to be for his "pre-bionic" moments. And it was a darn good mask too. When you were a kid did you think the Oscar mask looked more like Richard Anderson than the actual Oscar Goldman figure? i sure did. I thought that was odd because the Steve mask looks spot on like the Six Mill figure except with the added left eye. I wonder if that Oscar mask was an early prototype that was rejected? It's an interesting thought. But I loved watching Steve "destroy" Maskatron every time they battled. Surely I was not the only kid who kept my Maskatron alive until only his head remained? Now mine sometimes had problems keeping his limbs on even with the locking mechanism was selected. I had to really make sure it clicked other wise he would go blowing apart. I sometimes wonder if this character was not influential in future movies like Terminator or even the robots in Halloween III? There's a quality there that is undeniable. I still have my original figure complete and with his box. But the box has definitely seen better days. Pretty beat up but it still holds him. Easily one of my most prized figures.
This may be the best action figure of the 1970's. Play value is very high with this toy. If you didn't have a Steve or Oscar hand, Maskatron made a nice stand in. Interestingly this is the only version of Steve with both eyes present.
An uncle of mine bought me this figure when I was a kid. I never had any of the other figures in the line, but He let me borrow his Steve Austin figure for a day or two. Maskatron has to rank among the top action figures in terms of playablity with all the different features. As much fun as it was it only could last so long if you played with the figure a lot. The first thing that tore up on mine was the plunger arm and I remember the door on his back starting to wear thin and finally broke from opeing and closing it repeatedly. Great action figure that held my interest for many years.
Really good video! Found my Maskatron figure a week or so ago while sorting through storage. I had in mind that I'd gotten rid of it, and when I found it just sort of dumped into a 40 year old paper grocery bag, I wasn't optimistic about having all the parts in good condition. Turned out I had everything except the figure's socks, and the figure was in good condition - pants were ripped and the end of the suction cup arm was a little warped, there was a very small "melted" looking spot on one arm, otherwise the figure is in great shape for it's age and how I stored it. I was pretty excited to find it. Again, thanks for the video - really good job!
I've always wanted this figure. Being disabled & on a fixed income, I might just have to piece one together from ebay, over time. Thanks for doing what you do.
I never had this toy but always thought it was great because you could be Steve Austin without the huge eye hole that the original action figure had. I had the Steve Austin that came with the engine block. Cool videos man, thanks for posting them!
Like you, I have 3 Maskatrons, one with the original box. I also have the foreign knockoff, Robot Man. I find it interesting that both Steve and Jaime had impostors on their shows, but neither one was a robot, as it is with the action figures. Oscar Goldman actually had two robot impostors, one on The Six Million Dollar Man ("Return of the Robot Maker"), and the other on the 3-part "Kill Oscar" crossover with The Bionic Woman. It's interesting that Lindsay Wagner and John Houseman worked together in the movie "The Paper Chase" 3 years before this episode of The Bionic Woman. Other than the Bigfoot episodes, I consider this to be the most memorable episode in Bionic TV history. It introduced the Fembots. You just have to love Jamie's reaction when she unmasked a Fembot in that great fight scene at Callahan's apartment.
Thank you. I really want to revisit some of my earlier videos and apply my newer style to them. Keep an eye out for an upcoming review of the O.S.I. Headquarters play set.
This may be the greatest toy ever. I mean look at all the features: three masks, interchangeable arms, exploding feature, storage and bionic chips. Plus the detailed sculpting on the body. Tough to find an action figure that does this much. Thanks for your support.
+John Wild Actually Maskatron was not the first toy villain for Kenner's Six Million Dollar Man Action Figure. The first toy villain was Dr. Kromedome who was produced by Mego and sold exclusively through Montgomery Ward in 1975. Kenner would release their official Six Million Dollar Man villain figures Maskatron, Fembot, and Bigfoot in the following years.
Thanks Diz. I enjoy making these videos too. Challenging myself to find new and differn't toy lines to look at. Trying to make them entertaining also. Finally using my college education in video arts.
I once threw my MEGO Captain Kirk up in the air, simulating an explosion and lost him in a hay field. Loosing parts to my toys was always disappointing. My Mother never let us open our new toys at family Christmas parties at my Grandparents because we would always loose parts. Thanks for watching.

wow looking at the box brought back a bunch of memories
It's a great box and an even better toy. Thanks for watching.
An awesome review for an awesome figure. Oh I miss the 70's.
I like today. Can watch all the Six Million Dollar Man I want. Couldn't do that in the 70's. BUT... toys were much more fun back then.

That's great that you recovered that figure. Proudly display that survivor. Thanks for watching.
My favorite figure . Great job
Thank you.
John, Thank you for making these Six Million Dollar Man-related videos. I love them!
You're very welcome. I really would like to revisit these videos again. I think that I've gotten better at making them. Thanks for watching.
I've always wanted this figure. Being disabled & on a fixed income, I might just have to piece one together from ebay, over time.
Thanks for doing what you do.
Your welcome. Hope those Maskatron parts find your way very soon and thanks for your support.

Great comment. Yes it is strange that Oscar seems to have the biggest problem being replaced by robots. Oh well. Thanks for watching.
Great informative video John! Now I know how to change out the limbs properly. Just bought a nice loose figure on EBAY. Enjoy all your bionic videos.
Thank you. I really want to revisit some of my earlier videos and apply my newer style to them. Keep an eye out for an upcoming review of the O.S.I. Headquarters play set.
Excellent video John !!! Toys have been totally dumbed down since these day . 👍👍

Thank you.
Always a great review from you John and I totally have always loved this figure
Thank you for your support. As you can tell I have a thing with never saying no to a Maskatron figure.
Thank you for watching my video more Lego stuff is coming up pretty soon
Awesome review John !!....one of the coolest figures in this line....
Thanks Diz. I enjoy making these videos too. Challenging myself to find new and differn't toy lines to look at. Trying to make them entertaining also. Finally using my college education in video arts.
I had this.
I lost my maskatron figure, many years ago. Other than E-Bay, where can I find one that is close to very good condition if not new in box?
My cousin 'fired' all the limbs and head at once and we wound up losing most of the parts.
I once threw my MEGO Captain Kirk up in the air, simulating an explosion and lost him in a hay field. Loosing parts to my toys was always disappointing. My Mother never let us open our new toys at family Christmas parties at my Grandparents because we would always loose parts. Thanks for watching.
nice
Yes it is. Thanks for watching.
