Printing Howard’s 2022 Holiday Cards with the Chandler & Price jobbing press

Howard has been a volunteer docent at the Sacramento History Museum for over 23 years. Since Howard learned to operate the printing presses at our museum, he has printed his own yearly holiday card that he sends to family and friends.
In this video, Howard prepares our Chandler & Price jobbing press, made in 1902, with Pantone Green rubber base ink for a press run to print his holiday cards for 2022. In two separate press runs, printed on different days, he printed the cards using the type font Antique Condensed from the Palmer & Rey type foundry in San Francisco.
The type is arranged alphabetically on the cover in the shape of a Christmas tree, except a letter is missing. The inside of the card includes the reason for the missing letter as there was “No L” in the tree.

Merry Christmas from Guam. My 102 year old dad ran a printing press here till 2016. He’d been a printer since he was 16 (in the Philippines) He operated a press like that one.

Wow, what a beautiful old machine! I’m pretty old, we had a Kluge letterpress in my high school graphics shop, and I had a Kelsey manual press at home that I used to make business cards and monogrammed stationery for people.
Can you still get the old-school gelatin rollers for these, or are they using a synthetic now? (And who sells those sorts of parts?)
