Veerapattinam Sungazhuneer Amman Viruttam

There is a fishing village, called Veerampattinam, on the coast of Pondicherry where they worship the goddess as Sengazhuneer Amman. A form of Mariamman, she is considered a protecter and healer. People propitiate her for protection in times of disease. This is a hymn addressed to the Goddess of Veerampattinam, the Kula Deivam, or family deity of the folks. A hymn that has travelled to Mauritius long ago with immigrants when they reached this distant shore. These are the hymns they would chant while offering 'Canjee' to the Goddess to seek her blessings to cure a sick child or family member or a community. Have a good Friday.
