Man what a collector's piece. That thing is just mint condition, it doesn't matter if its 5 years old, 10 years old, 20 years old, but man for 30 years old original condition, holy crap!!!!!
I'm not even a huge Nissan fan, but I'd buy that car just for the oddity of it not being an AWD GTR and being in that sort of condition. People know what an R32, R33, R34 skyline are, but R31, mid 80's, nobody knows about this car.

Great video. Since you pointed it out, I have noticed that 80s and even early 90s Japanese cars payed more attention to detail. I think attention spans are too short for that kind of stuff today. The materials were cheaper but somehow at the same time the build quality was better.

Back in a year 1992 only me and another guy ride this 1988 R32 in Malaysia...nice RB20DET Engine boosted up to abt 1Bar balanced by BOV...the most interesting of this car that the author didn’t explained abt this model are the rear wheel doubled wishbone and the easiest manual side parking car in the world ever ....I will tell you why?

The R31 has not the fanbase like the R30s or the GT-Rs BUT the R31 is one of the best Skylines ever made! :)

nice looking 1988 nissan r31 its pretty rare with an automatic ( which I'd like to get if i bought one of these and being that year model as well because I like 1988 stuff personally) and back when jatcos were reliable regular conventional automatics (4n71b or Re4r01a it probably is which are both more reliable and stronger than the current CVT) and not the crap current nissan CVT model.

Oh my god this is straight out of Gran turismo played with every GTR, skyline and other nissan goodness in that game...um this is of those cars that would be a pleasure to drive.Great buy i can only wish one i can have one these cars i also love the s15 man nissan had great cars back then,these days they have the GTR and the 370z well i guess is better then mitsubishi (and other companies) they only make ''city cars'' now.

Malaysians are so lucky to be able to import cars in and out of country. In Indonesia if you try to import a car yourself, said car is going to get impounded and crushed. Or bought by corrupt Precinct Captains.

Man the left side wheels are diferents to the right side ones to make the cars looks the same on both sides. *o* you don't get that in todays cars :'(

Shouldn't drop the hood like that. Lower it down, and then place your palms on the top and give it a slight push and it will go down and lock.
mynameisray. Actually the way he did it is the best way. Pushing it the last bit as you explained can lead to denting the hood latch area of the hood.
Yes Gary. I used to do the push-style but some hoods are not strong enough to withstand the pressure and will bend. Better to be safe than sorry. Then once you get into the habit, it's second nature.
Are you sure it's 1988? Apart from the 88-89 tail lights, everything else is 85-87; NICS, front grille, upholstery, GT Auto Spoiler switch, Climate Control sliders.

I haven't heard of that car so I googled it and it looks like you are right. The wheels look similar but with a slightly different inside part near the centre caps.
i've been told by someone else that the 200sx (canada) of the same era had turbofan style wheels for the turbo model, but i could not find it online...

So many 80s cars didn't stick around! IF they were fast-ish they were usually heavily modified/raced to bits. And used cars were massively undervalued with such easy financing for new cars pre-bubble-popping... and with so many new cars, used ones had no real value for a long time, so very few people would have bothered to restore/maintain what would turn into "80s classics."

1988 with the NICS motor? Doesn't sound right. NICS only lasted from 86-87 at the latest.
I don´t get it. I have a brochure from 1986. If you convert it it would be 1985 but back than it didn´t have HICAS because that came in 1986. And HICAS is in the brochure.
Anyway on the RB20DE(T) it says NICS (and NDIS) and in the sketch left of it it says ECCS also. But ECCS came after NICS. I´m confused. Sadly I can´t read Japanese.
SvenQ45 yeah the RB20E + RB20ET (both SOHC) came first, then when the coupe first came out in 86 they came with NICS. It wasn't until mid to late 87 that they switched to ECCS. So yeah... Confusing

SvenQ45 I'm not sure, but all I do know is that NICS was a fail and they hastily tried to hurry everyone over to ECCS which would continue on to the silvertop 20DET. I've got the 1985 release booklet which was before the coupe and it only mentions the upcoming NICS. The Japanese had a lot of issues with it and dealerships were overrun with people with problems so I've heard. I guess a check on the VIN would explain it. Build numbers up to 70000 would be NICS at a rough guess

But no wagon. Normally I don't like the wagon versions but the R31 one is just as great as the sedan. Good forecast for the Stageas. :)

You could import an R31 into Finland from Australia but it would cost a bit more than Japan but you can get an R31 here for quite cheap but the Wagon R31 is rare.

how do you find a dealership in japan?
Google Goo-Net English. Then if you find cars you like, email us and we will call them in Japanese and negotiate. That said, dealers will usually be more expensive so I only recommend them for something ultra-rare like this.
