To say that Lavrov is managing the current chaos is a little exaggerated. His diplomatic skills are down to constantly lying and blatantly distorting the truth. He won't lose any sleep rejecting an agreement signed the previous day. His most remarkable skill is to have kept himself away from any windows for so long.

Perhaps he should get involved between the USA and Denmark? Denmark has just announced a huge increase in Greenland defence spending, not to deter Russia but to deter Trump.

All countries need Lavrov on their side? That would be a departure from the time honored conviction that diplomats are professional liars and are only on the side of what they perceive to be their country's or their authoritarian patron's perceived best interests. Lavrov is indeed a briliant man with an impossibly bad brief. The industrialized democracies have shut him out because both parties to a negotiation must be seen to be acting in good faith. That is why, in an extraordinary display of unity the UN General Assembly on Feb. 2, 2022 voted 141 to 5 calling for the immediate withdrawal of Russia from Ukraine; the same Russia whose diplomat had sat before them and said that any notion that Russia was about to invade Ukraine was simply not true.
Trump in solving the impasse will deal directly with Putin. His experience has ingrained in him the desireability of dealing with #1 instead of #2.

Russia has no right to impose its will upon any other country, and no government should impose its will on any country. Countries can influence countries through trade.
Humanity should learn imperialism belongs to history. It corrupts both the imposer and those subjected to imperialism. In the end, the imperialists are rightly kicked out.
