@@danialtarki572 You don't seem to understand so let me make it easier for you. Animation isn't a genre or a category and shouldn't be designated as either. It's a cinematographic technic that allow to give the impression of movement using a series of fix images. That's it. That's not a genre that's a technic just like "filming with a camera" is a technic. That's why putting an animated movie under the genre "animation" make as much sense as "black and white" or "stop motion". It doesn't tell you anything about the genre of the movie. Only how it was filmed. Like I said earlier, animated movies can correspond to any genre just like live action movies (action, horror, fantasy etc...) so reducing them to the label "animation" is downright insulting.
While I respect animation and the stories it can tell, I can't agree with this comment. You've just listed sub-genres that aren't used in live-action awards either. For instance, Dune and King Richard were both nominated for best picture, yet I don't have to tell you that those are drastically different movies as well. Animation has got to be my favorite medium of story-telling. There’s so many different categories, so many ways to stylize it, so many ways to tell a unique and captivating tale that only works in its full potential THROUGH animation. Movies like Coraline, Grave of the Fireflies, Wolfwalkers, Spiderverse- all they have in common is that they were told through animation, and each one tells a vastly different tale, with passion undeniably dripping from each scene. Animation deserves more respect. It may have shaped your childhood, but that does not mean it is limited to a child audience.
Hey! Amateur animator here! Thanks for standing up with us! I know quite a number of animators here that are genuinely loving their work, but the pay isn’t worth their dime. I just want to say that and we also stand up with the VFX artists in Disney who are being worked to death too! Those live-action movies were made for corporate greed alone, not the respect of the medium of both live action film and animation.
Bojack Horseman is my absolute favourite piece of fiction of a time which is an animated show about a former actor who also happens to be a depressed horse who inflicts substance abuse upon himself and steals the D in Hollywood. Sometimes wacky things can connect way more than realism can, even if that his it's own place.
As someone who does animation for a hobby, I can confirm that no one treats the medium like an actual form of art to be enjoyed by everyone- adults especially. I’ve grown tired of Netflix laying off an entire animation team and cancelling critically-acclaimed or long-awaited animated series because of these layoffs, instead favoring live action and animated series with very little value to anyone above the age of 18 months. Movies like Spirit, Road to El Dorado, and The Princess and the Frog were staples of my childhood, and I’ve always loved them as movies. Klaus is one of my favorite recent 2D movies because it shows an actual love and respect for the media…and then I never see anyone mention it just about ever.
